I love Pete, I love his tips. I use tall rescue and he's always on point. I didn't follow his steps this year and my lawn looks terrible. I'm a Pete disciple and will always follow his lead.
Google Earth to me is the easiest way to measure square footage. Allows for tracing out the actual turf and nothing else. I double checked it with a square area of my yard and was spot on. I have a total square footage but also have the yard broken out into sections if needed. I tend to use the section option in spring when gathering my soil samples.
When I started doing my own lawn care many years back (may be 25 years), I first measured the lawn size by drawing the house plan and breaking down the lawn into smaller squares, rectangles, triangles and then doing the math and coming up with the total lawn size. Very true, you must know the lawn size and Pete is right, many homeowners may not know it.
Thank You Sir Pete. I have 1,200 sq ft of turf, I’ve always known that. But I do round down to 1,000 sq ft to make it easier for me. So my spraying and granular application rates are much easier to handle. Thank You for your Very Helpful Videos. You have helped me immensely on getting my turf into its current shape over the years. I have Beranbrug RPR and RTF turf and its HOC is 5/8” and very tall. Reel mowed with a John Deere 220A greens mower, I’m just north of Boston.
Wow, your property is really beautiful! Your lawn looks amazing. I completely agree with you about the importance of square footage and sprayer calibration. I spray over a dozen lawns a day, and products aren't cheap. I always try to use the minimum amount of carrier and be as efficient as possible with most applications. This has saved me a lot of money over the years.
I measured mine guessing with google, Google Earth I found to be accurate but I can't see a lot of my yard because of trees so I just estimated the distances of where the bedded areas are. I'm gonna have to play with my measuring wheel now to compare and get more accurate measurements. Knowing the right square footage is also helpful to checking your calibration because you already know how much product to put down. I like checking how accurate my application was based on my lawn size but have some areas in question because I couldn't see it on Google Earth and I think is making some of my applications off so I'm going to go manually measure it now!
Right on time video. Was not happy with the color of my yard. My nitrogen application rates were off due to my yard measurements being off. Got it fixed now. When you make it official for the GCI perennial rye, I'm coming down there to get my bag personally and shake your hand sir! 💪
Pete, if a customer comes into your store and doesn't know the sq footage of his yard, it should be pretty easy to use an online tool (those that uses satellite photos) to give the customer a rough estimate of his lawn size. It wouldn't be perfect but you can tell the customer this and that he should go measure it for a more accurate size but it'll be better than telling him you can't help him. 🙂
you are totally missing the point. 1 - I never have and never will tell a customer i cant help them... never. i was trying to drive home a point. 2 - i know, realize, and use software to measure area. I do it every day all day long. nut learn how to do it old school so you know how to do it old school. 3 - the point of the video is to get people to measure their own yard and not depend on me to do it for them. Lawncare basics, if a person cant do that then they probably wont be able to have nice turf
You know The Lawn Care Nut recommends breaking the yard up in areas. I see advantages on both ways. For example I know I have approximately 10,000 square feet of lawn. 3300 in the front and 6700 in the back. 2 areas. I spray different days due to my heart condition.
Quick question, on your lawnmower are the blades even/level or are they slightly angled front to back, and if so what is the difference? I am currently level but sometimes get round circles in the cut.
Pete I love your videos. We use Moasure to measure all of our lawns. Give it a try . It might make your life a whole lot easier and your measurements much more accurate.
I have been wanting to speak with someone that is actually using it to measure lawns with. Considering buying one, just wanted to hear it from someone that is actually using it for lawns only. So you recommend it?
Hi Pete 👋 I purchased your blue heat seed I did a full Reno last year beginning of Sept I gave all the right fert and watering I'm in long Island NY it has only grown to about an inch I haven't been able to mow it yet is that normal ? It is very green though I had about 90% germination
@@GCITurf hi yes barely an inch we did have an unusual cold spring maybe that's why ? Does it need some warmer temps to help kick it off ? I also gave humic and rgs few times also
@@GCITurf this past week we just started getting temps in the 70's I noticed a little diff with growth I gave it nitrogen April 1st then I sprayed green start and rgs and humic may 10
The problem I see with having a nice yard is it is a bank drainer. You get no return on your money for having a nice yard unless you’re a RUclipsr like Pete, Ryan Knorr, etc. All the fertilizer, water, seed constantly needed costs so much.

I love this channel. Your character and integrity comes through. Great knowledge for us newbie lawn guys. Thanks Pete!

Use qpublic/GIS.
Thanks for sharing! Knowing your square footage is a big deal when putting products down.

Thank you for this video and the importance of getting square footage. Like you, I like the old school way as well.
Half of my front yard is 6k sqft, the other half is 4k sqft. My backyard is 17k sqft.
Pete, you taught me to know those numbers years ago!

Top tips as ever.. Lawns are truly looking incredible Pete
absolute Legend
The "BASICS," and THAT is the first Basic we all need to know.
Simple, Basic, not rocket science.
Thank you again PETE.
Hey Pete... can you explain the difference between using Pine needles versus using mulch? Advantages Disadvantages
I agree, like LCN says, know your land.
Love the video, Pete. New video editor is doing great as well

I had to chuckle when you said you had to text yourself numbers to remember them. I have to do that all the time. Keep on keepin' on brother.
LOL
Beautiful! I’m excited to see how the kbg does this summer. I’m wondering how it would do in Athens, GA?

I break it up also. At my age hauling 2 gallons on the back is all I can do
You probably had 15,000 sqft at one point and then the beds kept getting bigger as the trees grew. :)
Hey Pete….. you just “PLUMB BOBBED” your measuring wheel! Take that thing to the golf course!! 🤣🤣
Great video!
I use the google earth way of measuring my lawn. Its pretty spot on, within 100 feet or so. Ive walked it off with a measuring tool just to dbl check.
YES PETE! BACK TO BASICS! I've got 8 years of lawn care experience and some times its just good to go back to the foundation of our understanding.

Thankyou pet for that video that help out so much for me
Shew Pete! The fescue looks darker than the KBG!
it's taller. my yard is the same way. but when i leave my kbg get to 4" like my tttf its noticeably darker
Great & informative video. Love it.
Tartan weavers in Scotland wish they had color and contrast like your turf.
Nice work your right it matters , plus can u do a video you watering all this 14000 🤙
Great video the Kentucky blue grass and the fescue is on fire
