Jeff Lynne, as you is a huge Beatles fan. In 1974, when the song came out, John Lennon gave the song quite an endorsement when he listened to it on a New York City radio station. Lennon loved the song and called ELO "The Son Of The Beatles." Jeff Lynne was ecstatic when he heard about John's statement.
The particular version of the song you're listening to was from 2012 where Jeff Lynne re-recorded the best of ELO in which he played drums, bass, keyboards, all guitars and sang all vocals.
The older I get, the more I realize we had SO many great songs in the 60's and 70's, and the great bands that came with those songs. ELO was always at the top. Wonderful song and reaction. Blessings all.
I've been hooked ever since I first heard "Can't Get It Out of My Head" in 1974. Every song they do is fantastic. I still remember seeing them on The Midnight Special tv show and was amazed by the integration of cellos into rock music.
Look Jeff Lynn love Love LOVE the Beatles and so does a lot of people artists and musicians....so he called himself and members of his band "sons of The Beatles." Every song an artist creates has a base genre which they start to create a song whether the base or core of the song is Blues, Jazz, R & B, Motown, Country, Classical, Funk, or Folk...right? Jeff's base of creating a song started with the music/sound of The Beatles even his lyrics were poetic like Beatles songs....and his other base was Classical/Opera and Soul/R & B/Motown sound. Every song!!! This fusion made his songs unique, complicated, and Melodic. And I forgot to tell you...He absolutely LOVE Yes....he really love Yes!!! and knows Jon and other members of Yes. Thought you might want to know that!!!
Love anything and Everything that ELO put out!!! One of my all-time favorite Rock n Roll bands. Jeff Lynn( leader/lead vocalist/songwriter/producer) is a genius!!! I have 2 albums of ELO. Love Love Love this band. Great reactions!!!!
It's funny. I think I like every ELO song I've ever heard. For some reason I never give them a thought though. Anyways, I think this is my favorite ELO. Very 70s stoner sounding. I feel like I'm cruising through a downpour in a poorly equipped muscle car with bad wipers.
DEEP PURPLE - "" Woman From Tokyo (1973) extended version "" (VIDEO) WHOA! this is FIRE!!! Video Classic Rock w/ Some of the best Drums & Hi Hats sounds + Amazing Vocals and overall Instruments very well blended together. Just One of Deep Purples Finest piece of Rock n Roll Jams 🎸🎹🔥🔥🔥 Highly recommend this Extended Edition with high quality sound.
Great reaction Shawn! ELO doesn’t have a bad song! Jeff Lynne is a genius and I appreciate the wonderful memories I have when I hear ELOs music! The 70s was such a great time to be a teen in California ☀️
Yeah, I noticed that too. This lacks some - nay, a lot even - of the rawness of the original 1973 studio version. Even despite trying to be extremely faithful to the original - or is it just a new mix of some of the original recordings? Anyway, it sounds too "clean". Sometimes Jeff's perfectionism is his worst enemy.
@@davidmacgregor5193 yes. Like I said. And I am afraid it isn't because he couldn't match the original sound exactly, but because he thinks this is better. I'm not one to say JL is wrong but ... he is wrong in this case.
@@mainmanjimmiblue He's reacting to the version from the album "Mr. Blue Sky - The Very Best of ELO", which is a Jeff Lynne REMAKE of most of his hits. Not just a re-master, but an actual but he re-recorded the songs. Check out the Wiki entry on the album. But only us old people would realize this, and there's no way Shawn could know that when simply pulling up the song by Band/title. Even seeing the album title, he could not have known they were NOT the original recordings.
This is the recent remix. Try listening to the original version that's on the single or "On The Third Day" album. It's much better than this fluffy remix....the strings have more bite and the track has a more raw sound.
As I mentioned elsewhere, songs from this particular album are not "just" remixes, they are RE-RECORDED, remade almost from scratch. But the title for this version does not say it's the 2012 version.
@@MissAstorDancer A re-recording it may be and thanks for pointing that out, but that doesn't alter the gist of my above post. Obviously some people will prefer this more polished version but personally I think it's inferior to the original as do others going by some of the comments here. Also, mine and other comments will let those people not familiar with this track know that this is not the original, which is well worth having a listen to.
@@windymiller6908 Oh, I agree with you 100% that the original is so much better! I did NOT like this album of re-recorded songs........as much as I love ELO and Jeff! But it was, of course, Jeff's prerogative to do whatever he wants with his music.........but it's also my prerogative to NOT PURCHASE this album, or even listen to any more of it!! I'll stick to the originals!!!
Ah, too bad you reacted to Jeff Lynne’s one man band remake from several years ago, not the group’s raw and awesome 1973 original. It’s been used in commercials and movies, most notably the “showdown” scene in the comedy King Pin.
That was the 2012 remake you listened to, not the original 1973 version.... ignore the songs on the album 'Mr Blue Sky: The Very Best of ELO', they're all pointless remakes, a bit of a cash grab by Jeff.........look for 'All Over the World : The Very Best of ELO', they're the original songs.....
There is no other band like ELO. They are one of my favourites from the 70’s.
Seriously! The composition and layers in every song is phenomenal. ELO and Boston produced music for the ages 🔥
Thanks for playing my favorite ELO song 👍 Strange Magic is another great one 🎸
I feel sorry for everyone under 45 who never got to hear great music when it came out.
Yes...for sure..👍👍
just so good!

HS in the 70s was the best. Saw a lot of great bands. Those were good times and some of the best music ever.
FYYYYYRRRR BABY!!! 💯😊 OVERRRRR ( 50 ) YEARS AGO SHAWN! INSANE 😮

"Showdown" and "Strange Magic" were always my two favorite ELO tunes.
ELO is a great band one of my two favorites. One of my my favorite song of theirs is tightrope. It’s amazing.

ELO has been on my bucket list for a while. Fortunately, I get to see them in Oct 2024 at The Forum in LA. I can't wait.
Again a great masterpiece from ELO. 🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️👍
My favorite ELO track among so many greats!

There definitely were differences. I'd like to hear some ELO with Roy Wood. Possibly too raw, but Wood was very talented.
