- Regarded for all the right, and some of the wrong, reasons as one of the great short pieces of all time, this paragon of polyphonic perfection shows what exquisite expression may be achieved with four part counterpoint in the hands of a great master.
It was scored originally for strings and continuo and is the second movement of Bach's Third Orchestral Suite, composed around 1730.
This version essentially has the two flutes playing the top string parts and the piano the lower strings.
