- Join us for our Erev Shabbat service We will be going through the weekly teachings from Monte Judah. "This portion defines a very special day in the history of Israel. It was on the eighth day of the dedication of the altar and ordination of Aaron and his sons, in which other significant things happened. On this special day, the consuming fire of God descends upon the altar and the Divine Presence of God comes to dwell in the Sanctuary. Aaron loses two of his sons when they offer ""strange fire"" before the Lord. Since the Lord did not command them to do so, they were struck down before God. We are given the kosher laws for eating and for ritual purity, including the purifying power of the mikvah. The number eight means ""new beginnings."" This was a new beginning for Israel and us."

Before my wife and i became Messianic, we attended Calvary Chapel. The pastor there had a sermon regarding alcohol consumption and that essentially the church didn't tolerate alcohol consumption. After the sermon, i went up and spoke with the him regarding this. We do drink occasionally, and were told that was ok but we could never hold any sort of leadership position within the church. All the while they are having pork suppah's and mens breakfasts with pork and lobster served. I still believe there are a lot of good people there. But they just dont get it. Holding onto the traditions of men, verse believing in the WORD of G-D.

Peter kept the Torah, knowing what food was clean and unclean, but he kept the tradition of men stating that it was unlawful for a Jew to enter in a Gentile's house (my paraphrase of Peter's comment).. the Lord God, in His infinite wisdom chose food in order to open Peter's understanding towards the Gentiles (Cornelius and his household).

But Gd says in Deut 12:
20 When the Lord your God has enlarged your territory as He promised you, and you crave meat and say, “I would like some meat,” then you may eat as much of it as you want. 21 If the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His Name is too far away from you, you may slaughter animals from the herds and flocks the Lord has given you, as I have commanded you, and in your own towns you may eat as much of them as you want.
