    I am honestly conflicted about this. He has made lots of mistakes, but as a liberal, he has fought for better public transport and for improving the middle class. It's sad to see him go, but I hope the liberals don't get too hurt in this next election and that the future conservative prime minister can help Canada fix its bad economy. In history, I think he will go down as a PM who tried but got unlucky times.

      Poilievre will not be a great PM in my view. His entire popularity is built off the idea that trudeau broke the economy and the cost of living is going up. All he'll really do is cut spending and reduce support for people who are affected the most by the increase in bills. Classic populist move, never works in the end.

      Conservatives across the world tend to be the worst at managing economies. They tend to cut investment which only causes decline and decay, suppress pay and end up increasing migration purely for the additional GDP figures making the rich richer. But the GDP per capita decreases, so the average person gets poorer as the richer transfer the wealth. They then brand anyone who points this out as anti-freedom, and a socialist.
      You need to do some extensive studies on global conservatism to understand that you're just an economic unit to them, and they require that you work with worsening conditions, rights and pay.

      Canadians have no idea how much worse they could have had. But now they will learn. They will get their own Trump or Farage who will f*ck it up so hard Canadians won't have time to realize how okay Trudeau was

  • @reverendroar
    @reverendroar 16 дней назад +2

    Big day in Canadian politics but I wouldn’t put it past him if he returns in the future for a 4th term (which he desperately wants). Trudeau has the charisma, determination and arrogance for a return to politics.
    But I also don’t see Pierre Poilievre being a good Canadian PM either. If he wins, it’ll be on the basis that the Canadian public see him as a protest vote against the decade of Trudeau rather than for the values/politics he stands on. That’s a dangerous game to play. I can see him doubling down on social restriction policies and using populist rhetoric like Farage and Trump - playing to a small vocal base that have grown in the Conservatives over the last decade. I can see him being a one term PM with a very fragile vocal voter base and a very fickle national electorate.
    It might be best to have a bowl of poutine in the Canadian premiership role for a few years?
