Final Fantasy Summary
FF I: Restore the orbs and fight a villian
FF II: Stop an evil empire
FF III: Bring balance to Light and Darkness
FF IV: Stop a Lunarian who wants to destroy the human race . (Borrows heavily from story elements of FF III)
FFV: fly a dragon, become sexually attracted to a transexual pirate, fight an idiot dressed as an extra for aladdin mascarading as the villain for 97% of the game , then fight a possessed demon shrubbery as the final villain straight out of nowhere!
FFVI: Your rolland emrich cast of 200 characters is beaten by a literal clown who regardless of his enevitable death.... still technically wins by destroing ALL magic and anihilating the whole bedrock concept of final fantasy.
FFVII: Your final villain is self doubt.... you technically win.... but your game is plagued by 20 years worth of crappy sequels. Also the high point is finding tifas panties.... musics good though!
FFVIII: Quistis turns out to be ultimacia, Squal is dead, zell's homosexuality is poorly explained by hotdogs and the story fall apart right after sqaull dies at the end of disk one.... but man with machine gun song is legend!
FFIX: everyone's a puppet, Like litterally.....

The game that got me into RPGs when i was a kid. After 25 years i can still remember the story of cecil and kain. Nothing beats the final fight music of this game.

Still in my opinion, the best story in the main line series. High Fantasy, a tiny bit of sci fi, a dark tale, outfitted with tons of plot twists and heart aches. Love, love, love this game. The first Final Fantasy I ever played waaaay back in '95/'96.

Actually, the sci-fi elements become more and more prevalent the further you progress, and it's more than just a tiny bit. I love it for that very reason, then again, most of the Final Fantasy series has always had varying degrees of sci-fi elements in the mix. That's what makes the games so amazing.

And "Barbariccia" was called Valvalis and the Earth Fiend was Milon....
Ok, so the bad guy is this guy, but it turns out he's actually just under the control of this other guy. But wait, that guy was actually under the control of another guy the whole time! And then it turns out the this guy was actually being controlled by yet another guy.
This but for 30 minutes
One thing I recall about Final Fantasy IV is that it was the very first Final Fantasy game I ever played, so it sparked my interest in the Final Fantasy series.
My only REAL issue with this version of the game is how they deal with rubicante emperor of fire. Rubicante is absolutely and genuinely disgusted, horrified and truly remorseful of the actions of his masters in the tower. He is the only villain that has a genuine code of honor in the game and never betrays it. Rubicante should have turned sides and joined cecil then and there after the first battle with him, as according to fusoya himself, his pure heart should have freed him from zemus's grip. I pull my hair out every time I have to fight him in the collusus giant battle because its such a cheap cop out. Really we should have seen the fiends of water, wind and earth try to convince rubicante to rejoin them, and him refuse. Then we should have had a scene of him using his power to weaken zemus's power over them just enough so cecil and his party could defeat them. This should have then ended with rubicante standing shoulder to shoulder with golbez and Fusoya in the fight against zemus on the moon, as the last remaining elemental guardian of the planet and then him dying seeking redemption for his corrupted elemental brothers and sister, with his honor intact. It is literally the ONLY thing about this game I hate.
That would've been one hell of a story in the game

My take on that was always that the elemental fiends are magically compelled to obey. He could bend his orders, to follow his code of honor, but was physically incapable of disobeying.
That goes double for the revived fiends. No idea if that was cannon, it was just my head-cannon.

it's crazy how old this franchise is and how they re-use so many characters in FFXIV, love it.
Fun fact: This game came out before the ESRB video game rating system was created. Nintendo of America had very strict content controls in place to keep games produced for their consoles as PG as possible, to appease potentially offended consumers and keep their product market competitive. Square's US localization team complied with Nintendo's regulations and removed all content deemed inappropriate for minors, resulting in the US Final Fantasy II. Incidentally, a few years later games like Mortal Kombat would spark outcry and necessitate creation of the rating system.
This game has (to me) thee best music scores ever compared to all Final Fantasy series.

This was my first Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy 4: The story of a man who owed the world nothing but gave everything.
I remember playing this game for the first time, I loved how almost all the bosses had some sort of moment in which the other characters got to shine, like Gilbert taking the Dark Elf down a peg, or Rydia completely owning Golbez. I also loved how all the bosses got more damaged more health they lost, it make me feel more confident and me more pumped when both the bosses and party were on their last leg. Also, holey-crap was this game dark. I mean halve of your party dies, like, wow. Overall, one of my favorite games of all time.
Fun Fact: I learned about the s-word from this game.
The American release as FFII was my first introduction to the series, followed shortly by the American release of FFI. FFII will always be my favorite out of all of them! I still play it once in a while to feel that nostalgia.

Still the best FF after all these years. 6 and 3 are close but nothing can beat 4 in terms of gameplay, characters, and story for me.
IV will always be my fav, partly due to that was the only FF i had for a few years on my gba so i played the hell out of it. I love the music font for it!
ff4 was the only gba port that didn't sound like shit. why didn't they put any effort in adjusting the music for the others?! i mean the instruments are just *HORRIBLY* butchered versions of the snes version's (except maybe for the "voice" sample in the opera scenes and dancing mad from ff6)

The overworld sprites are so beautiful in their simplicity. I wish games still looked like this sometimes.
The part at the tower of Babel where everyone comes to help was the first time I got frission chills from a video game.
Thank you. I played FF4 twice, the ps1 version and the 3d remake, years ago. And recently started playing After Years - this was a great way to remember the plot and interpersonal relationships as there are so many characters in this game!

@@TheBonkleFox Pretty sure the game does tell you about the magnet cave. And it's also pretty common sense what would be metal and what wouldn't. I figured it out when I was 10 back in the day.
The best of all FF. I played it in 1991, still have my original copy and love it so so much!

Sudden ship appears coming from the depths of the ocean during prayer, turns out the ship can take Cecil and crew to the moon via space travel AND IT ALSO COMES WITH A FAT CHOCOBO ON BOARD! OwO one of the many reasons why I love FFIV so much.

Thank you so much for all these videos. I love watching parodies and have heard people reference FF in different media but never knew how some of the games actually played out. The graphics are a bit dated and the gameplay frustrating (probably because I've been spoiled by too many modern games) but your summaries are really enjoyable while explaining things briskly. Each plot is concise and you feature enough gameplay to let someone get a grasp of how things unfold.
I love these recap videos of yours. I wish you had kinda touched upon the Mysidia legend more because it varies from game to game. I always thought that the part “Born from a dragon” pointed towards Kain being the prophesied one. He did after all collect the crystals ultimately. But in later versions the legend is changed and sounds more like Cecil. I liked the idea that the legend wasn’t about the main hero.
I thought because of the shape of the continent Mysidia is on. The ship rises from the mouth of the dragon. You can see it better on the worldmap.
just started watching these videos and i have to say that they are really good at getting to the main point of the game while mentioning side things in a way that makes it flow into the story.
altho with this one I wonder why Edward's name was changed (or was it changed to Edward FROM Gilbert?) and why Kain is spelled with a C here. I suppose the C is understandable as this is the Japanese version having been translated, but why wouldn't Gilbert be Edward?
1:17 the beginning of the Red Wings theme. Always hits me with the epicness of this game.
I love how the game begins with a slow fade in of the song and then when we finally see the airships, the 'trumpets' just explode! Always sends a chill down my spine.
Should do Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest series man, star ocean series, Y series would be amazing.

FFII (US version) on SNES was my first FF title, and one I've completed the most. I always knew later on, that it was an edited/easy version of FFIV, but it's the version I know the best.
Mind blown when I learn that the infamous "Spoon" Yangs wife gives you, is actually supposed to be a meat cleaver?! No wonder it was such a devastating weapon when Edge use's Throw with it! O.o

I just completed this game on PC today. The only thing I regret is over levelling up ( around 72 for all party members). The last boss was the easiest thing ever.

i came to this game late but it still found a way to be the best FF ive played.
The music for parts of this game reminded me of music from FF8, which also involved the moon as a big part near the end.

This was my first final fantasy game and the first game I got for SNES (though it was FFII then). I will always love this game the most. Some say FFVI is a better game and it is indeed a greet game, but I will always love FFIV more.
I'd love a pt.2 or a remake of this. Played and played and played the hell out of this from 8-14. Had 3 copies of it.

Awesome review of a classic SNES title.
FF4's praise is well deserved. The game expanded the way a story is told, the characters are memorable and well written, to the point that they still hold up even over 28 years after its release on the SNES. The music is also timeless, even now I still find myself enjoying it. Everything about it aside from one aspect of the plot, Rubicante, I feel his story should've been handled better. Aside from that though, it's just an amazing game that is a true classic in every single way. Even it's episodic sequel The After Years is well done and fleshes out the characters that much more. I would actually welcome a third game in the series if it were possible. Such an amazing time from start to finish.
Imagine having a world devastating falling out on humans for 3 whole final fantasies just for elevator batteries. XD

I enjoyed how you told the story of this game perfectly. However, the part about the Chocobo forest after Ordeals wasn't a part of the story and just something extra. The Chocobo house and showgirls was also not a key part of the story.

I read this on reddit and I would like to repeat it here: there should be a ffiv prequel!
Some of the bosses in this game are sooo hard! Scarmiglione (dead version on the mountain cos their are no elixirs at that point in the game), Dark Elf, Barbarriccia (probably the hardest boss in the game IMO) and even Zeromus is fairly hard with big bang! 3 had easier bosses overall (except salamander who to this day still holds as the hardest ff boss to ever live side quests aside and optionnal bosses too.).
necroplastful Yeah, I found Barbarricca to be the hardest of the 4 fiends.
+djmeagaaim17 I've only played the DS, I think Scarmiglione was harder than Barbariccia. I died once against her but it was avoidable if I would have played better xD. I found the blue dragons in the Moon's last dungeon much harder (like any of those semi-bosses that appear in random encounters), they kill me every single time I see them if I try to fight them (if there are two of those).
Barbaricia is an easy boss lol. I find Rubicante and the CPU boss in the giant of Babil kinda hard. Also Scarmiglione's weakness is fire. Just cast fira with Palom and you will beat him easily.
To me, Cid and Yang living those explosions was bullshit. It kinda ruined the immersion I was having when I was playing the DS version (hell it is difficult if you're not using a guide or something). And also when Cid appeared from nowhere to save the heroes with the Enterprise, that was bullshit too. It's a shame because that stuff could have been easily avoided and the game would have been so much better for me (I'm not saying it is bad, it's awesome, I really like it, but yeah)
well there has to be comedic relief at some point. i thought it was so ridiculously stupidly impossible that it was actually kinda nice
