  • Funny-man, Chris Rock, is on a promo run for his new movie, Top 5 (which Sway is in too) and paid us a visit on Sway in the Morning to talk about it.
    It was only right to ask him what his Top 5 list was in the comedy world and in hip-hop. He argues that LL Cool J is still in his Top 5 of all-time list, meanwhile Drake is in his Top 5 of right now.
    When it comes to comedy, he claims Richard Pryor is the best to ever do it. Bill Cosby is still one of the best story tellers and that Dave Chappelle ensues fear in his heart on stage. We even played a game where we put two comedians side by side, and he picked the better one.
    Steve Harvey vs Damon Wayans
    Chris Tucker vs Monique
    Jamie Foxx vs Kevin Hart
    Martin Lawrence vs. Dave Chappelle
    Find out his answers below, plus watch him weigh in with his two cents on Ferguson, Eric Garner and even talks about the racial profiling that he's experienced.

    Real talk Eminem is my favorite rapper of all time. I can argue that he's in the top 5 all time, but I can also understand why people DON'T put him in their top 5. At that point it's about personal preference. Even though Em is mad talented, some people can't relate to his subject matter. Also in your opinion Em may not be as talented as Big Daddy Kane, Nas, Black Thought etc. And to me that's valid. Sometimes I don't think we give Eminem enough credit. Although his skin color has definitely had a positive impact on his success as a rapper, you can't deny he came up through the ranks of hip hop. From underground to battle rapping he paid his dues. He rapped his ass off as a white dude in an art form that was dominated by black people in their own territory. that's an incredible feat. Now he's being mentioned on the same list as Jay, Big , Nas. I don't think people realize how incredible that is. This is a trailer trash white dude from Detroit and he's being mentioned with the greatest now.

      The most objective stance I’ve ever seen on Eminem. I’m the contrarian that your talking about. I think he’s super talented and wouldn’t be salty if anyone has him top 5-10. I just personally don’t like [but a handful] of his music.

      50 said it best "Hip-Hop is Black Music Without Question, And unfortunately for some people it's tough to admit that you got a White Artist that does it better than Black Artist... It is what it is...."

    1.Eminem, just off of purely rapping
    2.Nas, a genius like this may never come around again in this lifetime
    3.Jay z, paved the way for lyricst selling albums, 12 platinum albums?
    4. Biggie smalls, we all know he can rap but his career was cut short, Rip my nigga big
    5. Tupac, I put him 5 because he draws the line that sets him and the other top 5 apart from the rest. Pacs influence on the world with his words is truly amazing, a gangsta touching the kids in poverty in africa

      I got the same top 5 in a different order.. But I always change my mind and throw Kool G Rap, Big Pun, & Big L in there for one of those top 5.... Eminem is not #1 tho in my top 5.

    • @AB_Seymour
      @AB_Seymour 9 лет назад +11

      Em isn't out-rapping Pun, Big L, or Jay-Z strictly based on just rapping. But Nas is the G.O.A.T.

      Jay Z isn't a lyricist. He's explained that already

    • @AB_Seymour
      @AB_Seymour 9 лет назад +6

      Why isn't Jay a lyricist? Do you listen to Jay? He's one of the most lyrically diverse artists to live. Reasonable Doubt is proof enough. Don't speak on Hip-Hop if your knowledge is limited.

      lilcoope2189 "if lyrics sod I'd probably be lyrically talib kwali truthfully I want to rhyme like common sense then of sold 5 mill I ain't been rhyming like common since"
      Basically he's not lyrical and he's aware of it. His reasoning for it though is because being lyrical is not what's hot.

      leodj02 Me too. I can't wait for his joint to drop, comes out 3 days after my birthday! Also, I hate when people say Eminem is trash. Look, his music is different than how it was on Infinite and in those days, doesn't make him trash though. Is he in my top 5? Obviously not, but he's definitely in the top 15, maybe even top 10. People forget so many great MCs with just TERRIFIC discographies and they go just for the main guys. Em is great, top 10 lyricists and top 15 MC for sure for me. Dude is a legend.

      Elton John played one and sang on Kanye West’s last album, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” on the track “All of the Lights.” “I ran into him in Honolulu last January,” John explained. “He’s a stone-cold genius. He’s like Miles Davis meets Frank Zappa. ’808s & Heartbreak’ is the sexiest record since ‘What’s Going On.’ He played us the track for ‘All of the Lights’ and it was fucking amazing. It’s like, ‘Wow, this is something else.’ I mean, he sampled Bon Iver! That’s his genius. His new album is a masterpiece.”
      Lou Reed Talks Kanye West's Yeezus album Kanye West is a child of social networking and hip-hop. And he knows about all kinds of music and popular culture. The guy has a real wide palette to play with. Thats all over Yeezus. There are moments of supreme beauty and greatness on this record.But the guy is really talented. He’s really trying to raise the bar. No one's near doing what he's doing, it's not even on the same planet.

    Chris made a good point as far as us as a culture and society expecting young rappers, born in 1989/1990 to talk about the same conscious things that rappers back in the 80's and 90's did. The guys are kids and probably have not experience the same oppression and hardships.

    1. Nas (I grew up listening to Nas. But skrew you guys. Illmatic. Don't have to defend myself more than that)
    2. Mos Def (It'd be pretentious of me to fill the list with "conscious hip-hop" like mos, talib, and common. I'll choose one, and Black on Both Sides is excellent.)
    3. Ghostface (between him and Raekwon for this spot)
    4. Scarface (I agree with movie trailer Chris Rock)
    5. K'naan (because I knew about him before anyone else. So this ranking is entirely based on The Dusty Foot Philosopher).

      @ajodbeats 9 лет назад

      Jake Acosta yesss are u crazy lol? Ask anyone eminem is by far one of the most if not lyrical artist of all time. And has one of the biggest impacts. And Wayne goes up there because of his body of work. The content may not be that great. But no one out works Wayne. Carter 1, 2, and 3 were great no debating that. Who can u name who has 3 classics besides Kayne west who will get in that list soon if not already.

    • @ajodbeats
      @ajodbeats 9 лет назад

      And of course no one is as influential as 2 Pac and has better quality music with a message. You can say Nas does but as far as influence to hip hop. No one comes close to PAC then jay z. I just don't like jay z lol

      My only problem is Busta over Kanye, because I liked them both and have considered them both to be my favorite rapper, but Busta just feel off, for a rapper that became prominent from drumming to his own beat, it's like he is following this new dudes, and the worst of him, and to put him over Kanye, an artist who even if you don't like him truly is "the only rapper compared to Michael" is just crazy!
