- Funny-man, Chris Rock, is on a promo run for his new movie, Top 5 (which Sway is in too) and paid us a visit on Sway in the Morning to talk about it.
It was only right to ask him what his Top 5 list was in the comedy world and in hip-hop. He argues that LL Cool J is still in his Top 5 of all-time list, meanwhile Drake is in his Top 5 of right now.
When it comes to comedy, he claims Richard Pryor is the best to ever do it. Bill Cosby is still one of the best story tellers and that Dave Chappelle ensues fear in his heart on stage. We even played a game where we put two comedians side by side, and he picked the better one.
Steve Harvey vs Damon Wayans
Chris Tucker vs Monique
Jamie Foxx vs Kevin Hart
Martin Lawrence vs. Dave Chappelle
Find out his answers below, plus watch him weigh in with his two cents on Ferguson, Eric Garner and even talks about the racial profiling that he's experienced.

Real talk Eminem is my favorite rapper of all time. I can argue that he's in the top 5 all time, but I can also understand why people DON'T put him in their top 5. At that point it's about personal preference. Even though Em is mad talented, some people can't relate to his subject matter. Also in your opinion Em may not be as talented as Big Daddy Kane, Nas, Black Thought etc. And to me that's valid. Sometimes I don't think we give Eminem enough credit. Although his skin color has definitely had a positive impact on his success as a rapper, you can't deny he came up through the ranks of hip hop. From underground to battle rapping he paid his dues. He rapped his ass off as a white dude in an art form that was dominated by black people in their own territory. that's an incredible feat. Now he's being mentioned on the same list as Jay, Big , Nas. I don't think people realize how incredible that is. This is a trailer trash white dude from Detroit and he's being mentioned with the greatest now.
+Joe Bryant love black thought
The most objective stance I’ve ever seen on Eminem. I’m the contrarian that your talking about. I think he’s super talented and wouldn’t be salty if anyone has him top 5-10. I just personally don’t like [but a handful] of his music.
50 said it best "Hip-Hop is Black Music Without Question, And unfortunately for some people it's tough to admit that you got a White Artist that does it better than Black Artist... It is what it is...."
PERFECTLY said. Thats the equivelent of when you hear about that random dude who came from Ethopia and becomes like a Harvard Grad psychist 😂
Credit is due no matter where you come from or look like, thats why the numbers dont lie ✅
1.Eminem, just off of purely rapping
2.Nas, a genius like this may never come around again in this lifetime
3.Jay z, paved the way for lyricst selling albums, 12 platinum albums?
4. Biggie smalls, we all know he can rap but his career was cut short, Rip my nigga big
5. Tupac, I put him 5 because he draws the line that sets him and the other top 5 apart from the rest. Pacs influence on the world with his words is truly amazing, a gangsta touching the kids in poverty in africa
I got the same top 5 in a different order.. But I always change my mind and throw Kool G Rap, Big Pun, & Big L in there for one of those top 5.... Eminem is not #1 tho in my top 5.
Em isn't out-rapping Pun, Big L, or Jay-Z strictly based on just rapping. But Nas is the G.O.A.T.
Jay Z isn't a lyricist. He's explained that already
Why isn't Jay a lyricist? Do you listen to Jay? He's one of the most lyrically diverse artists to live. Reasonable Doubt is proof enough. Don't speak on Hip-Hop if your knowledge is limited.
lilcoope2189 "if lyrics sod I'd probably be lyrically talib kwali truthfully I want to rhyme like common sense then of sold 5 mill I ain't been rhyming like common since"
Basically he's not lyrical and he's aware of it. His reasoning for it though is because being lyrical is not what's hot.
My top 3
1.Tupac
2.2Pac
3.Makaveli
1. Tupac 2. Kanye West 3. Ice Cube 4. Eminem 5. Nas
Kanye vs Cassidy?
My Top 5 in my opinion
1) Big L
2) Eminem
3) Big Pun
4) Tupac
5) Nas
Damn you into some nice people, I ain't much into that big pun stuff tho

Great interview! I love the comfort level with Chris in this interview...so much that at 20:06 HeatherB slaps his arm, lol. Chris' top 5: Steve Harvey, Chris Tucker, Kevin Hart, Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle
Fantastic interview
Thank you Chris Rock for keeping it all the way 100
Top 5
1. Tupac
2. Eminem
3. Nas
4. Busta Rhymes
5. Biggie
Jay Z just doesn't do it for me, in my opininon.
Does big pun make your top 10?
@@alexd4060 is canibus and lauryn hill top 10?
exactly .nope for jay
Omg I didn't want this to end!
Love Sway's laid back personality . And here's to all the world's easy going people . Peace out.
Nas is better than Jay no doubt
+lookatmedamnit Ummmm no bruh
agreed
Chris Rock's just being biased as fuck since he's from Brooklyn and guess where Jay's from...
HELL NO ,love both of equally but y'all better stop playing with Hov that boy above rap
Sike. Jay is the goat. Consistently put out goat shit throughout his career. If you wanted to say nas hd the best album of the 2 I could respect that but if you took the best 5 albums of the 2 jay would easily have 3 of them and too 10 albums of the two he would probably have 7 of them.
Coming to America is my favorite movie of all time so if it's getting compared I'm definitely gonna be in that theater on Friday night
Great interview!
such a genuine interview
I like how he gave Dave Chappelle his props 👏. Everybody know he the truth in comedy 😂💯

The complain I had on Detroit vs Everybody was it not having Elzhi, Black Milk, and Obi Trice.
That's a mean list. Elzhi is so underrated it's a crime..

1. Joey Bada$$
2. Freddie Gibbs
3. Killer Mike

5. Action Bronson
Sam Alexander love joey bada$$
leodj02 Me too. I can't wait for his joint to drop, comes out 3 days after my birthday! Also, I hate when people say Eminem is trash. Look, his music is different than how it was on Infinite and in those days, doesn't make him trash though. Is he in my top 5? Obviously not, but he's definitely in the top 15, maybe even top 10. People forget so many great MCs with just TERRIFIC discographies and they go just for the main guys. Em is great, top 10 lyricists and top 15 MC for sure for me. Dude is a legend.
"If I go broke that means broke's in style" -one of the coldest lines I've heard in long time.
That was a good little game at the end~

Where's Joyner Lucas
2pac vs Grand puba?
What he said about Biggie is why I always have issues ranking Biggie on my own lists. Ready to Die is a classic and there is no arguing that. But when his body of work is two projects (three if you want to count Junior Mafia) it's hard to rank that
1. 2 Pac
2. Nas
3. Notorious BIG
4. Method Man
5. Big L
Put rakim in at 3 and biggie at four and our list are identical. Very acceptable list tho
is that your actual top 5 list or who you think is the best of all time? my top 5 would be much different. my best of all time would be as well. i think there are a few performers who should be considered.
Damn good list
its an ok list
good list but i feel, this is my opinion by the way but tupac is overrated as hell take him off the list and add guru from gangstarr or rakim
1 - Eminem
2 - Pac
3 - Biggie
4 - DMX
5 - Big Pun
Patrice O'Neal is on my top 5 comedians.
Actually I was smart guy,I been saying that since he was on O&A.Why you trying to hate..
Well those are those people.Yeah but I know what your saying.People don't appreciate someones talent until there gone.
***** paul walker is a shitty actor, I dont think anyone ever thought he was a great actor. I didn't know about Patrice oneal until 2011 when I saw Elephant in the Room, then I heard all his OandA stuff, Black Phillip show, HBO special, Mr. P album, and a bunch of other shit. Patrice is my # 1 favorite comedian of all time.
***** not even after he died, nobody was saying he was a great actor and if they were they are dumb as fuck. I never liked paul walker as an actor he was always shit to me, I was not a fan of his shitty movies.
mine aswell! R.i.p
I like how he knows that Dave is a beast, cos for real.. Dave a straight up beast when it comes to stand up

Top 5 was one of the best movies of 2014. It definitely got that topic going again. That movie reflected most of what I see in Hollywood today
The fact that everybody got PAC in their top 5 👍👌
I gotta pick Jamie Foxx over Kevin hart allllll day
And I put Martin over Jamie foxx and Eddie Murphy over Martin and Richard Pryor over Eddie
I wouldn't Jamie over Eddie... Jamie cant top Coming to America, nutty professor, Life, ect...
Me either, I said I'll put two people over Jamie (Martin, Eddie Murphy) and I said I'll put Richard Pryor over them all
ooo ok ill agree with that
Bernie Mac over all
Some real ish was said in this interview. One of the main reasons Chris is still one of my favorites.
1) Kane
2) Rakim

Runner Up-Kanye West
Elton John played one and sang on Kanye West’s last album, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” on the track “All of the Lights.” “I ran into him in Honolulu last January,” John explained. “He’s a stone-cold genius. He’s like Miles Davis meets Frank Zappa. ’808s & Heartbreak’ is the sexiest record since ‘What’s Going On.’ He played us the track for ‘All of the Lights’ and it was fucking amazing. It’s like, ‘Wow, this is something else.’ I mean, he sampled Bon Iver! That’s his genius. His new album is a masterpiece.”
Lou Reed Talks Kanye West's Yeezus album Kanye West is a child of social networking and hip-hop. And he knows about all kinds of music and popular culture. The guy has a real wide palette to play with. Thats all over Yeezus. There are moments of supreme beauty and greatness on this record. But the guy is really talented. He’s really trying to raise the bar. No one's near doing what he's doing, it's not even on the same planet.
Smartguy949 That's his top 5 man. To each his own, plus Common's Be & Finding Forever albums were dope as fuck. I hated on Common hard too til I heard those records.
Smartguy949 hahahaha nah homie, leave.
I dont completely agree but I like that your list is different than the other terrible lists I've seen lol
Smartguy949 Common is a top artist easy. Maybe not five but dont act like he's ass.
1) eminem
2) J cole
3) dmx
4) ice cube
5) 50 cent
iv'e heard all pac and biggies music
What about Marvin Gaye's Mercy Mercy Me, Inner City Blues (Makes Me Wanna Holla), and Trouble Man.
Chris made a good point as far as us as a culture and society expecting young rappers, born in 1989/1990 to talk about the same conscious things that rappers back in the 80's and 90's did. The guys are kids and probably have not experience the same oppression and hardships.
Nah rappers back then spoke against the problem ,rappers now days are encouraging the problem lol
Martin Vs. Dave would be hard as hell to decide.
Heather B. is gorgeous!!! WOW!!!

He funny to me but some people be saying he the funniest. I don't agree with that lol

KRS-One is STILL one guy, still putting out dope music!
1) Pryor
2) Chappelle
3) Eddie Murphy
4) Chris Rock
5) Louis CK
truuuuuuu, but i think louis ck should be 3rd or 4th because he's insanely talented at making special after special as well as brilliant shows. he's an amazing director
Isaac V I think out of all of them he's the best out of writing new material consistently, but the others are just better comedians imo.

Eddie Murphy vs DL hughley?
1. Nas (I grew up listening to Nas. But skrew you guys. Illmatic. Don't have to defend myself more than that)
2. Mos Def (It'd be pretentious of me to fill the list with "conscious hip-hop" like mos, talib, and common. I'll choose one, and Black on Both Sides is excellent.)
3. Ghostface (between him and Raekwon for this spot)
4. Scarface (I agree with movie trailer Chris Rock)
5. K'naan (because I knew about him before anyone else. So this ranking is entirely based on The Dusty Foot Philosopher).
5. Ice Cube & 2Pac - Tie!
4. Kurupt - His features + Dogg Food.
3. The D.O.C. - No One Can Do It Better
2. Nas - Ill-Classic-Matic
1. MC Ren - Everything on N.W.A.

1Pac
2Eminem
3Jay-z
4wayne
5 ....idk man !!! Lol
Waaaayne oooh shit he's up there to, eminem at 2 though? *****
Jake Acosta yesss are u crazy lol? Ask anyone eminem is by far one of the most if not lyrical artist of all time. And has one of the biggest impacts. And Wayne goes up there because of his body of work. The content may not be that great. But no one out works Wayne. Carter 1, 2, and 3 were great no debating that. Who can u name who has 3 classics besides Kayne west who will get in that list soon if not already.
And of course no one is as influential as 2 Pac and has better quality music with a message. You can say Nas does but as far as influence to hip hop. No one comes close to PAC then jay z. I just don't like jay z lol
I love eminem, and your definitely right his flow and every other lyrical aspect is amazing. Yeezys 3 albums I liked much more then Wayne's, even though Waynes albums were no doubt classics, kanye would top him for me

3)J Cole (lyrically, the best of this generation.)
4)Logic (On his way up..)

Chris Rock one of the REALEST celebrities out ever! But the difference is he's real in a very smart way to where even if you don't agree with him, you kind of understand where he's coming from. And the TOP FIVE movie is HILARIOUS.
My Top 5:
1. Logic (All of RattPack)
2. Joey Bada$$
3. Kendrick Lamar
4. Dizzy Wright
5. Capital Steez and Hopsin
From my own PERSONAL OPINION. 😎
5. THE GAME
4. KANYE WEST
3. BUSTA RHYMES
2. JAY-Z
1. NOTORIOUS BIG
I always say, "there's always somebody to be the first at creating or doing something Awesome. Then there's somebody who will come and perfect it or at least "PUT SOME STANK ON IT" .
This movie was WACK by the way.
smoothness1000
Jays flow is slower. But i think thats because he wants people to hear what he's saying. Like he said, "Do you foos listen to music or do you just skim through it"
Young Prospect
The older he gets the slower he raps.
My only problem is Busta over Kanye, because I liked them both and have considered them both to be my favorite rapper, but Busta just feel off, for a rapper that became prominent from drumming to his own beat, it's like he is following this new dudes, and the worst of him, and to put him over Kanye, an artist who even if you don't like him truly is "the only rapper compared to Michael" is just crazy!
KEMO Cali
Reasonable doubts sounds like jay today. Only that those were the 90s
Eddie Griffin and Mike Epps is funnier than Kevin Hart ijs
My favorite rappers would be Biggie, Missy Elliott, Left Eye, Common, Queen Latifah off of content flow and originality. Honorable mentions is Foxy Brown, Mystikal, Bubba Sparxxx, Da Brat, MC Lyte, Busta Rhymes, Lauryn Hill, Ludacris and Shawnna
TOP 5
1. GURU FROM GANG STARR - DON'T EVER FORGET HIM REST IN PEACE
2. MF DOOM
3. MC EIHT
4. ANDRE 3000
5. LAURYN HILL
i would be afraid of dave chappelle too. one of the only black comedians to fight back against the dark crusaders and survive.
He fought back, and didn't necessarily survive,he was just cloned
