Dollar Rental Car and others like them should be totally SHUT DOWN! Glad the tv crew was there to expose the fraud and help that lady get that bogus bill taken care of. Just imagine how many people just let them get away with this theft and dishonesty.
I rent over 200 times a year and have always rented with hertz and if anyone is new to renting or don’t know what’s going on they can easily be scammed. I’ve seen it happen so many times and people are usually willing to pay what they ask for. It’s a shame how some companies can get away with it.
That burns me up trying to bait and switch folks like that. What's even worse is doing that to foreigners. She probably barely paid her plane ticket to come here with that refund she got. Dirty scamming scumbags .I'll Re consider renting from these tools in the future.
In the contract you usually initial if you decline insurance or additional fees. Read the contract carefully because sometimes they rush you and don't lose that contract.
I’m not surprised it’s a Hertz company. I was hit by a hertz rental customer whom purchased hertz insurance (they are apparently self insured and just don’t bother following through on claims), their driver admitted fault, there was a police accident report, they were sighted, and I have a dash cam....it was a cut and dry case of they ran a stop sign and hit me broadside. Hertz refused to pay the claim, told me they are a huge company and that I don’t have the resources to make them pay and then they just stopped returning calls. They were very rude and aggressive. After a month of no returned calls I just opened a collision claim with my insurance and ended up eating my deductible. I’ve lost that money because paying for a civil suit isn’t worth it. In the end I had to treat it like I was hit by an uninsured motorist. Back to my point....hertz is very dishonest and I’m not surprised at all they are the example here, I avoid them wherever possible due to things like my story or this news report.

5 years ago I rented from Enterprise. Low and behold when I go and return the car, the bill was twice as much. Turns out the original employee tacked on "extra" insurance without even asking me. The managers response was, "well, you should have looked at your invoice" Another incident was from Budget. Rented on a Friday and told them I was returning the car on Sunday. It was never mentioned that they would be closed that day. When I returned the car on Monday, the manager said I should have looked up another location that was open and returned it there. After he told me this, I looked it up and the nearest one was 1 hr away. I explained to him that I chose this location because it was right down the street from where I live. I didn't need to bother anyone for a ride.
Don't rent from companies like this. Rent from AVIS or Alamo. They have competitive low rates, top-of-the-line models (Titanium, Limited, etc.) and I have never had a problem in the 10 years I have rented from them.
Lou7121, Sorry, AVIS and Budget are just as bad in the sense that they sneaks gas charges where people had declined in their contracts as well as billing extra fees where their customer service couldn't even explain and worst of all where people arrived at their counter to pick-up their rental cars (with confirmed reservation and even called a day or two before to make sure) and only to be surprised that their rental is NOT available and they have to other vehicle in the lot to sub for it...!
heres hwo there getting away with it slippage.. they hope that most people wont notice or complain or sue but if some do sue or get refunds the ones that slipped though paid for that so the company never really llooses.. listen people never walk away without reading the contract or receipt.. the total should be clear.. if you sign then dispute it your kinda screwed make sure the total is right before signing anything.. how these companies stick it too you again is if it fails to go though they ruin your life by putting it on a trw sayin you didnt pay your bill... companies liek rentals need to go away .... and insurance is not required.. but get it anyway and fill the car up with gas then get a reciept for the gas and show them another scam is you must show them a reciept even if the car is full.. dumb i know but rental companies arent happy with profits they want masssss profits...

I won't rent a car from anyone else. I will admit I have heard of problems with them from other people but I guess I have been lucky.
Went to Orlando 8 years ago and rented a car from E Z car rental for $$7/day. No issue at all. Rented one from Alamo 29 years ago and no issue as well.
you DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THEIR INSURANCE,they must have their own vehicle insured for 2nd party drivers, before they can rent the car out,otherwise they cannot rent them out.......

For instance, some McDonald's coupons say 2 McMuffins, hash browns, and coffee for $4.99 + tax. They punch the items in separately, apply a cash register code for your "discount", yet the total for the items BEFORE tax shows on the receipt as $5.16. It doesn't seem like much, yet when they serve tens of thousands of people daily, that 17 cent ripoff easily adds up to hundreds of thousands of dollars depending how many use the coupon. They punch in items atregular price, add the tax, then take the discount of that total. When you point this out to the employees, they get the old "deer in the headlights" look on their brainwashed mug because they are thinking, "Seventeen cents...is this guy joking?" It fucking goes on EVERYWHERE now. Cable companies, hydro bills, BANKS, gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, all the fast food chains...you name it, and it's done so frequently that most people don't even argue it because it's futile. Eastlink cable use to be a superb business, but now they send you through three or four employees minimum, in hopes you'll say "fuck it" and just pay the bill.
David L Amen...I love Enterprise as well. A few years ago I rented a convertible from Enterprise and it broke down almost 300 miles away. I called Enterprise's 1-800 number and they called another Enterprise near me and within an hour they sent another convertible,loaded my luggage and sent me on my way. The employee waited behind for the tow truck. No papers to sign, no b.s. . Also I always get a free upgrade just by asking,if available
Enterprise is the WORST!!!!!!! Every time I go there, they treat me like a criminal calling like 20 references to verify my identity when no other rental company pulls this shit!
Enterprise scammed me out of the ability to fight a $400 ticket by mailing me notice on the last day I could contest the ticket. They had already charged the credit card and nobody would even talk to me. I will eventually make that rental agents life miserable. Don't fuck with somebody who has the ability to look up all your personal information too. $400 is worth several months of research into her personal life. I'll get my money back.
Dollar / Thrifty is not an honest company. They charged me $ 64 for filling the tank when I returned the car with a full tank. If you want to save money and problems use another company. AVIS sucks they did a similar thing to me that this story portrayed thankfully after a month of run around they remedied the situation
