Years of being an ER nurse, if I Had to pick one thing everyone should have on hand at all times, it is electrolytes. I make my own powder from magnesium, potassium and Himalayan pink salt. I keep a jar and just use a half a teaspoon per 16 ounce glass of water. Several times this summer, people have complained of leg cramping because of the excessive sweating and once they drink a glass, they’re fine. If somebody is vomiting consistently, especially if they’re older, you have to worry about potassium. I cannot stress that enough. Many people come into the ER and they mimic heart attacks, but it’s the electrolytes (esp potassium) causing it. Just my two cents

A little caveat on thermometers: I needed a new one about three years ago (do the math) and I picked up the only one the grocery store had. After I got home, I discovered the darn thing wouldn't work unless you hooked it up to a phone app and gave it a lot of personal information! I said no way am I giving that company all that info just so I can take my blooming temperature! I threw it out and found one online that was JUST a thermometer and not a free database for some company.

I didn't realize how bad it was until I looked into the mirror. My husband can't drive right now so my daughte in law took me to the hospital. The nurse asked how I managed to get the bleeding to stop so well and I told her. She had never heard of the product. My "cut" took 8 stitches! Hi Patera, my sister in Christ and crisis! I also think of you as Patera my pantry pusher :) My Grandpa (Pappy) is 108 years old in Heaven and he would often have an oblong sleeve of horehound candies that he would keep in his shirt pocket and share with us-- so to me it sounds so yummy and I will be getting some asap! So thanks for the reminder! And my Grandma(Pappy's wife) is almost 104 years old in Heaven and she always kept peppermints in her purse and in her kitchen drawers for a few reasons! My Grandparents were old timers and I learned so much from them and with current times I think I am getting a stronger understanding of what it must have been like to be from the Greatest Generation and why they lived out the rest of the years the way that they did always being so cautious, so mindful of their pennies, and so thankful for all their Blessings which truly were abundant for them. My Grandparents did not live poor as adults as my Pappy was a glass cutter for PPG and he owned his own business setting diamonds in his little shop inside his home after working his daytime job at the plant cutting glass. And my Grandma was a mindful homemaker and worked many years at JCPenney''s department store to pay for presents for her grandchildren she said. BUT... the depression when they grew up caused an everlasting impression on them for their lifetime and they shared that with us thankfully. I see you as a mindful Shepard trying to keep us on the right path. So Thank YOU Sweet Woman. Bless you and your family. And Blessings to this community as we are all trying to live our best lives in this uncertainty!
