Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your videos. Especially this one regarding the electronics. I started doin my own a few yeara ago and wish I had seen this video then.
I just have to say...thank you so, so much for sharing your knowledge so freely. Watching you is akin to watching my hero, Adam Savage, but you're much more focused haha. There's a lot of makers out there who use their talents to make a living and they are so diametrically opposed to sharing their knowledge freely. They ask for a consultation fee. I get it, they're trying to make a living, but it feels so counter to what making is all about. So for sharing your knowledge freely, I thank you. What age would you say you were when you got into prop making? I've always harbored a love for prop making, but I'm only now, at 37 years old, getting into making and I feel like I've missed the boat lol. I do not have a dedicated maker space, or storage areas, and I'm converting my bedroom into a work space. Asking myself "how much bed do I *really* need?" lol.

I am standing on the shoulders of giants that came before me. As far as serious prop making, I have always been building, and focused on medieval reenactment stuff for years before this (wood, leather, metal). For Star Wars, I really only have been doing it for five years now, and that started when I was 40. Having a work space helps a lot, but also I have lived in apartments and built a lot in the past (vacuuming metal shavings out of the carpet before roommates got mad). The real key is that I have a family now, and it was hard to build, so I decided the only window I had was from 6am to 7am. I set an alarm for 5:30 every morning, and work in the garage for an hour. I get a lot done in small steps, over months, but it is always moving forward. This has given me a lot of experience in a short time.
@@OddViking I'm very fortunate that I have absolutely no obligations outside of going to work every day, haha. A garage sounds like a fantastic thing. Here's hoping I get the opportunity to own a home one day, haha. I'll be watching all your videos and any videos you put out in the future! I hope to see you at a con one day, I'm working on putting together a set of Mandalorian Mercs armor. :)
@@GrimGearheart the Mandalorian armor can be easier to build without a workshop, and the custom nature of it means you can steer your build toward what you have. Sounds perfect!
Just got my first ever legacy darth vader lightsaber and, I wanted to add more detail to the case it came with. This whole series really helped thanks.

I was surprised to see you’ve only been doing this long form/tutorial content so recently, it’s so well presented and informative that I figured you did this full time. Just wanted to say keep up the fantastic work, I’ll definitely keep watching! For a video idea, I’d love to see your process for blaster scorch mark, you have such a well thought out approach to these things and it’s really interesting to watch the process.
Thank you so much! I did just start recently, and I have no real experience with video. These are shot on a phone, and edited in iMovie (it has only two "layers" so it is fairly bare-bones, but with some template transitions and word things that make it easy to make a video like this look better. I could do the scorch, though I find those are more for walls and ships. I have only one blaster scorch on a piece of armor, and it is maybe too strong of a mark to do too often.
@@OddViking Well you're doing a fantastic job! Perhaps you could do a video on fabric weathering? Tears, stains, aging, etc? I know quite a bit of what you've covered so far applies in similar ways, but watching the process is just so fun.

You are really good at this. You're so pleasant and easy to listen to. Besides that, I never thought of putting light effects in storage containers! It just brings it to life! Great job!
This was a fantastic series. As someone that also likes to make in-universe cases for my costumes, I found all of this very inspiring. I've been in need of a case for my Kyle Katarn for a while but had come up short with what I'd tried. I think that green Plano case might do the trick! I'll be sure to tag you once it's finished. Great tutorial! I learnt a lot throughout the 4 parts. As far as diffusing LEDs, have you considered using LED foam (Plastazote LD45)? I haven't used it a whole lot, but so far, it works great for me!

What size LEDs are you using? 3mm or 5mm?

@@518fett2 You can usually find it on the specs from wherever you ordered it from. Most 5mm LEDs are somewhere like 20mA
