Your medleys all have a distinctly human quality, both in the playing and the descriptions. No need to point out your mistakes - it is very sincere and honest of you to present your art unfiltered and unedited, and it is not something you need to be apologizing for! We know how much effort and energy it takes to present this kind of thing, so big congratulations on your finished product! Happy early New Year from Scott and Clare

I can’t describe how much I enjoyed listening to this the first time around, and now after relistening for the second time, I feel like I should mention one of the many things that spoke to me about your arrangement.
As I was reading, I felt each arrangement grow with what you had written. I think this is because of the continually increasing number of voices, which develop into unique textures in the final two songs. I could go on adding to this for a long time, but this is the part that made this medley so beautiful for me to listen to over and over again.

I am nothing short of overjoyed to have a pianist of your caliber give so much love and attention to the art I make. I don't know what to say... I literally don't...
As an anipianist who only started playing piano when he was already in his teens I at some point became obsessed technique. If only I could improve my technique enough for sure I'd be able to make good piano covers, for sure I'd eventually become a good pianist. And so I began to practice. Weeks turned into months and months in to years and yet I only seemed to grow less satisfied with my playing. I had long lost track of the original reason I had started playing piano in the first place...
I always appreciate a good technical arrangement but I became so focused on it that I forgot what music is all about because this video right here holds more beauty than any technically genius arrangement ever could. A profound kind of beauty that almost brought me to tears. Being able to have such a deep connection with the piece your playing, to put so many emotions, so much meaning into your performance, to truly feel the music, that is perhaps the greatest accomplishment a musician can achieve. And it is without a doubt the most inspiring.
Reading your story while listening to your playing I felt like I was able to truly connect with both the music and you, the performer in a way that goes far beyond simple enjoyment. This was without a doubt the best thing I could have watched at the beginning of this year as it reminded me of what I should strive for in music as well as in life.
There is simply nothing that can replace real life human relationships The kind of relationship you have with that girl is the most precious and being able to translate your feelings into music like this is utterly beautiful and incredibly inspiring!
I too want to do that, I want to express my deepest emotions in my music and play for those who are truly important to me.
And yet while this inspired me to become a better musician and in a way a better person, at the same time watching this I was overcome by a deep, raw sadness as a heavy realization hit me, a truth I keep trying to lock away and excuse as something trivial:
There is no one I could play for.
Be it family or friends, I may get along with them, I may appreciate them, but there is no one I have an actual emotional connection with.
I'm not part of anything meaningful. I only started to play piano because of anime and the only reason I started watching anime was to escape the mundane, meaningless greyness of my everyday life. It was serving as a substitute for the connections I had failed to form in this world and playing anipiano was my attempt to form a connection with the world of anime. An attempt that was destined to fail. After half a year anime began to slowly loose it's effect. I couldn't fully immerse myself in it anymore, couldn't connect with it anymore, it had lost it's meaning and thus it became but another source of entertainment in my day to day life. And so did piano, just another routine, a hobby to keep me busy. Yet I obsessed over it, clung on to it, desperate to get better, because there was nothing else I had left to cling on to in life. Anipiano became my reason to keep going, a reason without meaning.
And time continued to pass. Not being able to connect with the shows I watched the same way I used to anymore, I turned to the anipiano community.
Just another try to be part of something. Just searching for some kind of meaningful reason.
And here I am, in the middle of the night at the start of yet another year, in front of a video so full of meaning it almost made me tear up, reminding me of what true meaning really is.
And also reminding me I was looking in the wrong place.
    Human relationships. I remember now.
A few months before I discovered anime I met two people at a camp, a boy and a girl, who reminded me of what true friendship is like and what actual emotional connections feel like. I was so overwhelmed by the experience that after parting ways with them I cried for a whole day, from morning till evening I ended up meeting them one more time a year later and realized that I had fallen in love with the girl. Not a crush but actual love. She was just a fried at first, but my feelings changed at some point. Always smiling, always hugging her friends.
I never met her of him again.
The story of me and them has already long ended, faded away like it never even existed, but perhaps I owe him and her a performance. There was a piece I started to learn right after I met them for what I didn't know would be the last time.
I tried to record it for her birthday and failed.
I tried again the next year and somehow I failed again.
    Eventually I gave up.
Perhaps it's time to revisit those forgotten emotions one last time. Perhaps it's time to, at long last, give that story of him, him and her a proper ending. Now that I know what a true performance from the heart sounds like, now that I know what is important.
    This time for sure.

This is really, a lot that you have shared with me tonight Andy. I don't know how much help I can offer you but maybe I can share with you what went on in my head when I was recording. The session took me around 4 hours to get this take (and it's still not perfect, but I was too exhausted otherwise and didn't want to postpone it because of my busy schedule). With a medley it's super frustrating because you can be so close to finish and make an absolute blunder and have to restart it all, but I sincerely never got frustrated with having to retake multiple times. I was actually warm and happy throughout it all, because the only thing I could think of was her. I thought that recording this is simply a trial to test my character, dedication, and commitment, the weight of my words and character portrayal that I have shown you all. If I can't be patient with a piano performance for the girl I love, how can I do anything else for her? This is the more enjoyable and easier part anyways haha. Nonetheless, this was a really driven piece. As I've mentioned, I believe this and my Sangatsu medley are my best works because they are influenced by such powerful driving factors: The best girl in the world and my grandparents. When you come across this roadblock, please don't forget what you've shared here, and what I'm happy to have shared with you.

The description paired along with the music is something that can make anyone appreciate the ins and outs of every perspective taken into account for the interpretation of this. As always your stuff is always amazing from start to finish, all I can really say is that each emotion was communicated incredibly and I can applaud you for how you can use music as a form of communication really efficiently :))

Hey dude! Gorgeous melody and amazing storytelling. Sorry I haven't had the chance to comment on this earlier. Honestly I don't know the songs really well but I feel that your selection must've been really careful and tedious. I'd say the first and last song speak the most to me, particularly the last part titled "Spring comes when the snow melts away" seems to have a very memorable melody. To me, I could clearly imagine a scene of snow melting away especially at 13:17 and other parts with the high ringing notes that reminded me of snow. (Also gives a bit of YLIA vibes)

RUclips recommended me to watch your latest video a few days ago and it made me realize that now is a good time to finally watch this one!
When I listened to it I found it really beautiful and enchanting, and I remembered seeing on Hayashi's server that you put quite some depth into this, but I could not remember anymore what it was about. Regardless, you really captured something that made me get lost in thoughts a little from time to time. Starting 10:45 there was definitely new wind blowing and it made for such an amazing and uplifting conclusion after a pretty graceful and calm first half.
Of course I re-watched the whole thing while reading your description and that's when it hit me. Not only did I remember all the warm comments on discord you received on this back when, but suddenly all these beautiful and gracefully played soundtracks had pictures and stories to them. While the video descriptions can be quite limiting when you have so much to convey, you still put everything in it!
I could not help but get lost in thoughts over and over again, imagining the journey your friend went through with you; but especially how you must have felt deep within thanks to her. I guess music really is the perfect way to portray your perspective here; how the hell would mere words be enough?? You, my friend, are so lucky to have such a wonderful girl in your life and I feel equally happy for her because you cherish and let none of her efforts be forgotten or unnoticed.
I truly wish for your relationship to last for a very long time to come~
P.S. Considering you only spent one week practicing this almost 20 minute long medley, your blunders made me realize something; In this ever faster progressing world we live in, everyone seems to strive for absolute perfection all the while optimizing to the absolute maximum the time it takes to get there (and I am not even referring to music specifically). I sometimes feel like we are reaching a point of sterility, so let us embrace our mistakes and not forget that we are living beings and not yet automated robots.
As famous person once said: "Flaws and slips are human. Expression is what makes art. Well done friend."

This is quite possibly the best comment anyone has ever written for me on my channel, and I’ve had some make me cry in the middle of my lunch lol. I’ve read what you had to say about 4 times and for a moment, you’ve made me relive that window of time, the week spent practicing the medley, the thoughts behind why I even did such a thing, and most importantly her. This must have been packed with incredible care and thought writing this out, and I could feel it grasp my heart and tug my strings.
Thank you Vins, for appreciating every aspect of my video, including the music, the story, and the emotions. You remind me again why I personally love music because as you say, words can’t do these feelings justice. This medley is my second greatest, if maybe not even my greatest, work on my channel. Regardless of what anyone thinks, this girl means everything to me. I’ll love, respect, and cherish her no matter the distance in our life and be there whenever she needs it just as she had done for me. I use this medley to remind myself of these feelings, these gratitudes in my life, and how amazing and beautiful a person she is.

It's been about a week now since I first listened to this. I've listened to this on repeat for a couple days about maybe 30 times (not exaggerating lol). This week in particular has been an extremely important week for me; it's one I'll look back on years later, happily or sadly, maybe both. At the start of this week, I was extremely anxious, miserable, scared, etc. I made an extremely severe mistake about 2 months ago, and back then for a week I felt similar. But I'm going to have to face the consequences of my actions very soon, and those suffocating feelings resurfaced as a result. The worst part is couldn't share it with anybody, so I was just bottling this up inside me. And I think it was around that time I first listened to your medley. The "Soma Family Tragedy" part really conveys what I was feeling at the time. I thought to myself that the medley was really good in a technical way and in how you related your own story, but it didn't have much personal attachment to me (don't mean to discredit your playing in any way, I mean my own personal emotions by this). A couple days passed since then and I was starting to feel better. I was telling myself everything's going to be fine. The next day, I decided I was tired of constantly being in this anxious state and formed a goal, a long one that would get rid of what I was scared about in the process. It's an incredibly difficult goal (let's just say it's something that if I can do any ivy college will accept me, yup it has to do with college admissions as all things do), and I have a year and a half to complete it. That evening, I shared my goals with my dad, who's always wanted me to aim for this thing. I felt so relieved. All the pressures that had been burying me just vanished, maybe because they were so tiny in comparison or maybe because my mind now had something else to focus on. My dad had always wanted me to seriously aim to get into good college because he knew I had the ability to do so (say Stanford, and I think it's fine if I share it here, but that's where I'm really aiming and want to go now), but he never really pushed me too much because he knew it was something I had to want myself for me to achieve something (and so that I wasn't miserable as well). But now I really do want to go there, not for the sake of my dad but for myself. This coming year and a half I'm going to have absolutely zero free time. I'm going to have to cut back on everything I've been doing for fun (hanging out with friends, watching anime, etc.). I'm going to have to use every minute I get because of the sheer number of things I have to do now that I formed this goal. But the weird thing is that it's almost exciting because it's a goal I really want to achieve and dedicate myself to, and a year later hope that I can say to myself I did it. My dad had told me about a year ago in one of his "life talks" that forming goals of things you want to do is one way how you or anybody in general stays happy/content but many people don't realize this even when they're older. I didn't get it back then, but I'm starting to understand it now. When I decided to start learning Japanese, aiming to complete 2 years of it in 1 year, and I had to start waking up everyday at 5:00, those early mornings were a bit painful the first couple of days. But after that, they were honestly really fun and something I looked forward to doing and still do. That feeling of breaking away from my anxieties and feeling this rejuvenated and liberated after forming my goal is couldn't be better expressed by anything other than the transition from "Soma Family Tragedy" to "I'm the One Who's Always Saved". And this is the exact way I felt when I listened to it a second time after the talk with my dad. The part at 10:58 made me tear up. Phenomenal playing. It's so incredibily beautiful (technically and more importantly the amount of emotion you put into it), I really can't put into words. I truly do mean this but this video means a lot to me, far more than the Sangatsu one (even though I love Sangatsu and its soundtrack). It impacted me on a personal level, and I thank you for playing this. Also, I hope everything turns out well for you too; she sounds like a fantastic person. I hope both of you continue to support each other, much like you said she did in the description!
(Ahhh I wrote an entire essay again, kind of embarassed now lol, but I just had to get this off my chest somewhere.)

Thanks bud...you’ve given me a hell of a ride too. I remember you stopped by and supported my channel like 5 years ago back when I had less than 100 subs. Took those videos down but I’m still happy to see the nostalgic names swing by. Wishing you all the best this year, and that we find healthy happiness.

Dara, allow me to say thank you for checking up on me, and by no means have you overstepped any bounds with me. Everything up to this point has been enlightening to me. My feelings born from these experiences of life remain unchanged, and my happiness is still linked to hers. The girl knows how I feel and we’ve put some distance and time between us. Whatever comes into my life, I’ll accept it with a smile on my face all the same. Thank you for asking, and for giving me a chance to openly reflect on the feelings I’m lucky to have come across.

I notice you've been replying to every comment on this, so I ask-is there any way I can beg you to transcribe this medley so I can play it for my senior recital? I would probably need I'm The One Who's Always Saved and potentially Soma Family Tragedy simplified because my coordination isn't the best... If not I understand because I know it would probably be a lot of work 🩷

    • @MadPianoLife
      @MadPianoLife  Год назад +1

This might be the most wholesome comment I’ve ever received ☺️
When do you need the sheets by? I’ll see if I can ask a friend to transcribe them but if not, I don’t mind paying someone either. Your comment really made my day and this video means a lot to me, despite it not being too well seen.

    • @MadPianoLife
      @MadPianoLife  Год назад +1

One of my videos, Sayonara Bystander, was charged $60 for a 5 minute transcription. If anything, if you know anyone or know yourself how to transcribe and would be willing to teach me on Discord, I can find a Sunday and do this for free as well 🙂

    • @lilykat.

@MadPianoLife Awww that's really sweet, I'm so happy to give this medley the attention it deserves! :') Fruits Basket has had such a close place to my heart for so long and it would be absolutely precious to me if I could play it for my recital. I've found some of these pieces on MuseScore and learned them, but the series gets sadly little attention, and I've never found sheet music for a medley nor am I experienced in putting one together myself.
I know how to transcribe individual pieces, but I think it would be better for someone with more experience to do this one. If you know how to notate music I could show you what software I use (it's free) and tell you how I generally go about transcribing. :) I'm not sure how tedious it would be for you, because inputting by ear can be time-consuming, so I'm not sure if it would be fair to ask you to do that directly and it may be easier for someone who transcribes more often-what are your thoughts?
