This was actually the first I ever saw of Elvis; this tune blew me away!!!!! I went back catalogue shopping the very next day, and got "Get Happy!" The rest, as they say, is history.
First time seeing this delightful video in many, many years, and I've now added it to my collection. EC just last week made his 27th and final appearance on Letterman's show, and here's his very first back in 1982.
True genius also this is my favourite of his albums with the attractions , ‘pigeon English’ , ‘town Cryer’ and ‘A boy with a problem’ are phenomenal tunes to name but a few on this LP , in fact in my opinion every track is a gem ! Long live Elvis Costello !
The best stuff was the pop and rock .. before the Crooner inconsistency Years. Boo, variation when your best stuff is great. This Year's Model was his best.
I remember watching this episode when it first aired.. I was such a HUUUUUUGE EC fan and loved the Imperial Bedroom album. LOVED it. Knew it was a masterpiece in 1982 as a high school junior. But I was slightly disappointed that these two songs were selected. I LOVED Shabby Doll and Beyond Belief and had hoped he would play at least one of these. Seeing EC on the TV (he had been banned on SNL for playing Radio Radio) was RARE and hearing EC on the radio was almost unheard of... (little has changed)...
Gosh so long ago since anyone has been here. D Slawin is so correct. Bruce is truly one of the best bassists ever. Well, Hell, that entire band was/is marvelous. Just dandy. My goodness.
Beautiful harmonic choice on the line "There's" at 16:46. He's singing a D# (Eb) - the major-seventh of the E chord. Great sound, and different from the vocal on the album version.
Tommy Haynes No - on the sustained line "Theeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrre's" in "There's a reputation to be made", which begins precisely at 16:46 and sustains until 16:48 at which point he says "a reputation to be made." That "theeeeerrrrrre's" turns the band's harmony into an exaggerated major-seventh chord.
Say you wouldn't kid about it Declan is the music music King of Liverpool and London, (and America) Will you still love a man out of time And his attractions ? ...
Imperial Bedroom is a superb album. In fact all of his '77 - '86 output was great.
Listened to Imperial Bedroom non-stop for a year.
His first 5-6 albums are masterpieces.
obviously not almost blue and goodbye cruel world
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whey would you not love Goodbye and Almost Blue.
The Attractions were an absolutely fantastic band.
The best ever!
Oh yeah, anyone backed up by them couldn’t go wrong. Then, give em scads of the best pop songs ever to play? Pssh, can’t beat it.
Good God damn, this man, this man, this man. Such an impeccable performance...
In my top 5 all time
Saw him live 3 times. 80, 85 and sometime around 2005 I think. One of the best songwriters ever.
I sneaked Man Out Of Time into my wedding's playlist.
Thanks, man. Imperial Bedroom might be my favorite album of all time.
or might not

Get Happy.... Possibly his greatest record, along wirh This Year's Model.
@@harveycan5820 I agree, those are the two for me
"Kid About It" here is so excellently done! Luxurious!
Amazing performance. So different than all the other music going on at that time. I love how much ground Bruce Thomas covers.
I'm not gay

Great tune, great band. Top players plus they give the tune room to breathe.

Adam Kent-Isaac wow! Impressive; me, I just love his style of music.
Well, en harmonically it would be D# (in the voice of my piano teacher)
I got attractions like I was Elvis Costello.
goosebumps on 'Man Out of Time'
Extraordinary. That's all I can say.
Hard to believe they became friends based on this clip.
who
divine
He's such a baby!
selysse Elvis and Letterman, both!
Bruce Thomas!!
could have been written by Bacharach.
Borrowed a page from the Dylan playbook.
Elvis Costello looked uncannily like Buddy Holly total spit of him 🤔😳
Elvis and the Attractions-as good as McCartney and the Beatles- and produced by the Beatles' engineer
Say you wouldn't kid about it
Declan is the music music King of Liverpool and London, (and America)

@@tommyhaynes521 Maybe add Bowie... The Kinks... Stones... Who...
A bit fooked up.
That's right Elvis, guns are 'just a part of life here'.
Strangely there is a paucity of home invasions 'here' too.
Oh great, a gun nut.
And a veritable plethora of children being shot dead in their schools! YEE-HAW!
