Thanks Flip! Still look forward to meeting you one of these days I’ve heard about you for years and we have omg crossed paths but I’ve played with a number of guys who know you .🎺
I have a Van Laar flugelhorn and your small morse tapered X7 fits like how your large morse example does in the video (a little deeper actually - it stops where the ring on the neck of the mouthpiece lines up with receiver entrance, but doesn't rock). Is this Okay? Van Laar flugels are known as small morse but I think they actually make it somewhere between small and large. Curry's small morse piece actually fails to fit in... its cup blank hits the receiver before locking in.
It's not which one I prefer, it's which one fits your brand of flugelhorn properly. For my Flip Oakes Wild Thing Flugelhorns, I use the French Taper, as thats what I think is the best taper for flugelhorns, and I have my flugelhorns made using the French Taper. Thanks for asking!

I have an old Couesnon that I bought that is missing the receiver and pipe. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement?

Just wondering. I have never played on a French taper. Wondering if it has any impact on sound of horn. If it does I may start looking for one.
I prefer the French Taper, my 2nd. choice would be Large Morris taper. However you need the one that fits your flugelhorn.
Which taper fit for flugelhorn B&H Sovereign? My one has nr 647165, probably form 1979 or 1980.
Thank you
can any lead pipe fit in any flugelhorn?
no not at all.
Every time I forget which taper is on my flugelhorn I come here. This will not be the last time.
