Hey i am using d5300 and i would really appreciate if you can help me with my question regarding exposure meter and flash.
How come the camera doesn't adjust the exposure meter when the flash is selected (pop up flash). For example I'm in manual mode and in a low light situation and i need to take a picture of something. The flash is not activated and i notice by reading exposure meter that aperture and speed combination will give me picture that is underexposed. So i decide to use my flash and activate it but still exposure meter does not change and shows that my picture will be under exposed because the reading on exposure meter is still the same.
Ps:- it generally happens with me during very low light situation like a nightclub.

      Hi Nikhil!
Your problem is the very same as mine! And I happen to use also external flashes, on camera and off camera.
I believe that the internal metering system does not adjust the meter in prediction of what the flash will give you. The metering will always tell you which is the ambient light level that it is reading in that moment.
That's why, in low light, even if you have a flash system, it will read an underexposed scene, because your night scene IS underexposed.
Then you snap the picture and the flash goes on for a fraction of a second, illuminating correcly your subject and objects. But then your flash goes off and the camera keeps again reading the ambient light.
This is actually very helpfup to unrderstand and balance the ambient light and the flash light and achieve the desired look.
I am about to do a video on this, keep following the channel :) :)
