  • How to Change the Honda automatic CVT Transmission Fluid for the 2011-2016 Honda CR-Z (NOT THE CR-V)
    Nice and quick video, I tried to cut out the boring parts as much as possible for a speed run.
    Time: It took me about 1 hour
    Part numbers :4 Quarts of Honda OEM CVT Fluid : 08200-9006 (USA), or 08200-9006C(Canada)
    Drain bolt washer 90471-PX4-000
    Tools required:
    Philips or flat head screw driver
    3/8 male rachet
    Jack/Jackstands/Ramps
    Transmission Funnel
    Drain pan
    Steps:
    1.) First we are going to jack up the car, the CRZ is a little bit hard to jack from the front because the front bumper is so low, so I followed the guide on the CR-Z Forum to jack up the car.
    2.)The front jack point is between the 2 front wheels.
    3.)The rear jack point is the tow hook.
    4.)Make sure the car is level, and put jack stands onto the jack points as shown here.
    5.) Pull the hood release lever
    6.) lift up the hood , and support it with the hood prop rod.
    7.) Under the car there is a plastic cover , we will need to remove 4 screws, you can use a philips or flathead screw driver, but here I used a drill to speed it up.
    8.) Unscrew the CVT access panel, there are 4 screws.
    9.) After those are removed, coming in from the front of the car, it should look like this.
    10.) Remove the CVT dipstick
    11.) Use a 3/8 Rachet remove the drain bolt, I had to use a pipe to give me a little bit more torque because I couldn't remove it with just the rachet alone.
    12.) Position the drain pan to try and avoid spilling
    13.) Use a clean paper towel or rag, wipe off the metal shavings from the drain bolt then replace it with a new washer
    14.) Replace the drain bolt and then tighten it with a 3/8 rachet, then clean up the area with a rag or a paper towel.
    15.) Remove the CVT dipstick again, and then insert the transmission funnel
    16.) Fill with 3 quarts of Honda CVT 08200-9006 or 08200-9006C fluid, DO NOT confuse them with the Honda HCF-2, they are NOT the same. The Fluid for the CR-Z should be slightly red in color.
    17.) Remove the funnel then check the fluid level with the dip stick
    18.) Start the car and shift through each of the gears 3 times to let the fluid run through the transmission.
    19.) Reinstall the CVT access panel
    20.) Reinstall the main plastic cover
    21.) Lower the car

    Great job and tutorial. I can confirm that the PNs listed are correct. When i was doing my car, i needed 3QT+18oz to bring to proper level (within hot range), so definitely buy 4 QT.

    2011 CR-Z is squealing from the CVT upon mild to heavy acceleration. It stops when you're up to speed or maintaining speed. Fluid? Belt loose? I'm lost and new to CVT

    Can you use AMS OIL CVT Fluid???
    The directions on the back of the bottle read:::
    USE IN BELT AND CHAIN TYPE CVT'S THAT REQUIRE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS:
    HONDA: HMMF (08200-9006) , HCF-2

    • @ghettodiy7114
      @ghettodiy7114  3 года назад

      Hi Chuck D, thanks for watching! the specification calls for Honda CVT 08200-9006 or 08200-9006C fluid, not the Honda HCF-2, they are NOT the same. The Fluid for the CR-Z should be slightly red in color. I'm not sure why the AMS Oil CVT fluid can replace the 2 different generations of Honda CVT fluid as the Honda OEM ones are not interchangeable. If the AMS OIL CVT fluid say it is the same as the 08200-9006, you will have to use at your own risk. Honda transmissions tend to be very picky with the fluids they are happy with. Hope that helps!

  • @bjenks2
    @bjenks2 3 месяца назад

    I noticed my fluid wasn't reddish, it was yellowish. I think Honda sold me the wrong for and that's why my car is jerking when i take off.

      Hi Stuntz0rZ, the CR-Z has a maintenance minder system, when the code 5 comes up then that's when you have to make the coolant change. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

    Hi is the fluid the same for a 11 crz but manual?

    • @ghettodiy7114
      @ghettodiy7114  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching! The CVT transmission is not the same as the MT transmission. You would have to get the Honda MTF for the Honda CR-Z.

      @@ghettodiy7114 keeping on the topic of manual transmission, how much is required for a complete change?

    • @ghettodiy7114
      @ghettodiy7114  4 года назад +1

      @@MohammedL Hi M L, I just checked the 2011 CR-Z owner's manual, assuming it's the same for all MT CR-Z's and you are only changing the transmission fluid and not replacing the transmission, it takes 1.5 US Qt or (1.4Litre)of Honda Manual Transmission Fluid. Also, if Honda MTF is not available, you may use the API Certificated SAE 10 W-30 or 10W-40 Viscosity motor oil as a temporary measure. Replace with MTF as soon as possible. Motor oil does not contain the proper additives for the transmission and continued use can cause stiffer shifting.

    • @MohammedL
      @MohammedL 4 года назад

      @@ghettodiy7114 Thank you for the reply, I've just ordered 3x1litre from eBay. Genuine Honda MTF from Honda dealership. I will attempt to do exactly as per the video, which is fantastic. Thanks again for the reply.

      @@MohammedL The MTF procedure is slightly different with the fill/check/drain holes. You can view a copy of the 2011 Honda CR-Z owner's manual here. (Look for 2011 CR-Z Owner's Manual PDF) owners.honda.com/vehicles/information/2011/CR-Z/manuals
      This is how you check the MTF fluid level (from the owner's manual) , looks like the filler bolt has to be accessed under the car, not above like the CVT.
      Remove the transmission filler bolt and
      washer.
      Carefully feel inside the bolt hole with your
      fingers.
      Check if the fluid level is up to the edge
      of the bolt hole.
      If the fluid level is not up to the edge of the
      bolt hole, add Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) until it runs out of the hole.
      Put a new washer on the filler bolt, then
      reinstall the filler bolt.
      Tightening torque: 33 lbf∙ft (44 N∙m,
      4.5 kgf∙m)
      Reinstall the under cover with the bolts
      and clips.
      You may need a pump like this:

    Why did you remove the entire bottom engine cover for a CVT fluid change? Just removing the small cover below the transmission plug should be enough isn't it Lol

    • @ghettodiy7114
      @ghettodiy7114  3 года назад +2

      Hi Bryan, thanks for watching, yes, removing the small cover below the transmission plug is enough if you are only doing the CVT fluid change. I removed the entire cover because I was doing the Honda B123 service which includes the Engine oil change. Hope that helps!
