You know big muscles don't always mean big strength and i bet GSP doesn't wanna be like a big pile of muscle he wants to be fast agile strong durable and flexible...
@Tyhumps Supersets are always hard and intense. And here he is doing it on light. You don't get freakishly athletic by spending your gym time benching or curling.
@balentongkalabog wrong..a superset is when you do two exercises back to back with no rest.. a circuit is when you do mulitiple exercises in a row without rest
George is the man but everyone else should be careful in doing squats the way GSP did as he sat/rolled on that bench. With heavier (or not even much heavier) weight that is a very dangerous move on the back. Good Luck in your next match GSP!
if you work as fast as he does (no break between each of the workouts) then this is a very beneficial workout cardiowise, but then again... if you do anything for about an hour strait its a good workout...
Your right. This is how i work out. and i belive im in the best shape of my life.I CONTROLL my weight training. Monday-175 bench. And more High weight low reps workouts. Tuesday-125, Low weight, High rep, explosive, muscle endurance, and other high rep worneskouts. wednesday. High weight Low reps. Thursday. Low wieight EXPLISIVE REPS. Friday. HIGH WEIGH EXPLOSIVE. Sat-Sun sparing,Fightprep. Im 135 bantamweight and with this workout i dont sacrifice speed for strength. i gain both immensely
This is an old video of George and he has admitted he used to train 100% wrong when he was young. Now he is with Jon Chaimberg and he is doing conditioning the right way. Check out his videos with Jon on youtube.
@pacholito24 Its not is brute strength that ended the takedown with Mir and herring, its his explosive speed in his shot. Of course Mir knew he was going to try and shoot in for a takedown, Mir trained for a year trying to defend that, but what happened is the inevitable. Once he reaches you with his lightning speed and grabs ahold of you its a rap, He's the fastest heavyweight around in and out of his shots. His cardio for his size is amazing. He just keeps pushing and pushing and pushing
@thamoslil i think kos could make it a really hard fight, but gsp just seems like an all around beast. like have you seen tuf? his coaches are fukin amazing
@jb11379 Honestly id say this is safe to do a 3 day a week. ex: mon, wed, fri. Do these for about 6 weeks then go to a split body for 4 weeks then go back to this for another 6 weeks. You dont want to keep doing it because you'll hit a plateau, varying it up would help you gain more.
nice workout, i do the whole routine with my friend and a lil bit heavier weight. id like to see this same video when he has a spot and workout partner.
Certainly not. Push ups and pull ups are closed-chain. They are great but different exercises. Pull ups is probably best for back development. I incorporate all in my work out to target same muscles differently.
@ezcondition this is not body building it is fitness and strength and endurance training, if you do slow reps with heavy weight you will gain more muscle and will not e able to fight his way :P
@fanzi9 i'm not saying you can't be fast and weight train at the same time, i'm just saying that it will make you a bit slower if you used that spare time hitting the heavy bag instead, why do you think most boxers don't lift weights? they practically shun them.
@h0lystrike during the bulking stage of lifting you can go heavy ALL THE TIME. you just have to hit each muscle group only once per week. with a full week's rest you will be able to go heavy.
I'm talking about flat-out physiological adaptations at the most rudimentary level. Athletes condition themselves. They use different means to reach their goals whether it's running, swimming, kettlebell training, or hitting the bag. Point is, weight training can help to improve your performance. Boxers are definitely natural athletes by a large percentage so if 1 decided to use them, couldn't hurt if you customize the weight session to a boxers needs.
then why is he out of breath after he is done with each set?keep in mind he has to cut weight to 170 that means u cant to much muscle on u. and if he was really working out he would be exploding and lifting for endurance. in mma u dont train your body for high weight low reps u go lower weight higher reps and u explode
trust me you get VERY strong from body weight workout/ plyometrics. just look at gymnast , there huge. yes in mma you can lift weights but you must not get to bulky and you must have muscular endurance.
@kredit787 its ok if your doing it maybe twice a week . I myself did it twice a week at my local mma gym. They would have you start with one workout then move to the next workout there were usually 16 different workouts and we started at the 1st and when we got to the 16th we would start over just like sets each workout lasted 30 seconds. We ended the class within 1 hour .
I wonder what he actuallty uses for weight? I mean I know there not going to be huge numbers because hes an MMA fighter not a body builder, but just makes me wonder. Looking at his dumbell wrack it seems like the biggest dumbells he has are 45 maybe 50lbs ones. Id say thats very good for a guy at 170
@13seven13 well id say gsp really has after jake shields probably 3-4 more possible fights at WW until he would have to move up. the winner of fitch-penn gets a shot.
dude, i m 145 and i bench the same as you. benchin 135 or not is the point, GSP can whoop yo ass any day. u bench 175 and u kno what that says about u as a fighter? NOTHING! its about how fast and how hard u can hit, not to mention technique and cardio for ground and take downs.
BJ Penn isn't terrible at WW, he lost just as bad as basically any other WW against GSP. Fitch is very well rounded just like GSP is. Koschek is a very good wrestler and a decent striker. Alves is probably #2 WW. Marquardt has beaten a bunch of nobodies who can hardly even make a main card. WW is just as good as LHW, and MW is far behind. GSP vs Alves would sell more than any Anderson Silva vs (inset MW name here) card.
Gsp has the cheek to say hardy isn't a mixed martial artist, i don't count laying on someone For 25 mins as mixed martial arts. He should move up and let's see how he copes, I'd be skeptical. Cos let's face it, no one in ww can cope with his contant takedowns.
@DStoney88 exactly, but ya, i cant wait for ufc 125, rootin for edgar, but i just cant see him getting past the wrestling of maynard, but o well, we'll see anything can happen in a fight.
@Highway420Music yeah watch Pudzianowski versus Sylvia, he gets absolutely owned by a washed up fighter like Sylvia and that's supposedly the strongest man in the world. Almost all the fighters lift weights, but they do more explosive movements, those are the muscles useful in fighting. In the end it does not really matter how strong you are if 1) you don't have the lungs 2) dont know how to use your strength.
an mma fighter in the gym is different then a body builder's program, a good mma program for the gym makes you insanely explosive, and strong at the core.
This guy's a true warrior. He's very modest and determined, you can tell he's completely in for the love of sport instead of spotlight. He doesn't have that ego that comes with the job, he totally deserves the title.
@Tyhumps this is just his work out,,but he have more thing to do like boxing, jujitsue, wrestling, and some hammer ect ect,,to improve his fighting skill,,for us we only need to work out look good so we can get laid easy kaka that it...we dont need to fight we can use gun wakakakaka
@FF2PM wow UNREAL, my gosh....this is AMAZING, I feel INCREDIBLE! YES YES YES YES! I CAN WIN! I FEEL GREAT! I CAN DO THIS!!!! UGH. YES! I'm home, I'm ALIVE, this is all a MIRACLE, I'm AWAKE, Im WIDE AWAKE! woosh! hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
@GuardianAngel5150 Even GSP at his current size is still horribly smaller when compared to Anderson Silva. St. Pierre reportedly now walks around at 200 lbs. at 5'11", while Silva still walks at whopping 6'2" ~220 lbs. Sure they could meet at 185 (maybe even a catch weight), but Anderson is still much larger (a whole honest class) than St. Pierre.
yeah for a fighter its better to lift 200lbs for 15 min non stop than lift 400lbs 1 time and then get tired in 30 seconds bench press is the least important for an athlete anyway
that is awesome! where did you get his numbers? p.s. who cares what anyone says about the weight he's doing in this vid. clearly he's shown in competition he has tremendous strength.
You know big muscles don't always mean big strength and i bet GSP doesn't wanna be like a big pile of muscle he wants to be fast agile strong durable and flexible...
thats what i love about him, so humble and passive.i believe its the way you should be.
the way he was jumping from machine to machine, I think this was an easy day.
He is such a genuine and sweet guy.
GSP is the king of WW and he is going to continue to work up the fighter caliber list and challange champions of higher weight classes..
jake shields is going to learn a few things from st. pierre. this dudes the real
single leg balance ball curls are craaaazy. Probably the hardest thing to do on this vid
@Tyhumps Supersets are always hard and intense. And here he is doing it on light. You don't get freakishly athletic by spending your gym time benching or curling.
The squats with the chair are great
Yeah.. he's a true Elite... A lot of tech... he's on a great mind set.
just imagine how hard his training is now with all the olympic lifting hes doing
@balentongkalabog wrong..a superset is when you do two exercises back to back with no rest.. a circuit is when you do mulitiple exercises in a row without rest
George is the man but everyone else should be careful in doing squats the way GSP did as he sat/rolled on that bench. With heavier (or not even much heavier) weight that is a very dangerous move on the back.

multiplied by 3 this is a good day in the gym
Your right. This is how i work out. and i belive im in the best shape of my life.I CONTROLL my weight training.

Tuesday-125, Low weight, High rep, explosive, muscle endurance, and other high rep worneskouts.

Sat-Sun sparing,Fightprep.
Im 135 bantamweight and with this workout i dont sacrifice speed for strength. i gain both immensely
My back hurts when i watch him benchpressing
gsp is simply THE best
I love watching this before a workout.
This is an old video of George and he has admitted he used to train 100% wrong when he was young. Now he is with Jon Chaimberg and he is doing conditioning the right way.
Check out his videos with Jon on youtube.
I like this routine +1. I may try this out myself for a little while
all in one session, its a realllly good workout if you dont take long breaks
When you put your feet on the bench its so that you wont use your lower back and that way youll use more of your chest to push the bar.
@MuzicVids give the exercise a try and you'll feel the burn in your chest ;)
gsp is a pro literally if i could have gps or his trainer I would be so happy
this music is so catchy
@pacholito24 Its not is brute strength that ended the takedown with Mir and herring, its his explosive speed in his shot. Of course Mir knew he was going to try and shoot in for a takedown, Mir trained for a year trying to defend that, but what happened is the inevitable. Once he reaches you with his lightning speed and grabs ahold of you its a rap, He's the fastest heavyweight around in and out of his shots. His cardio for his size is amazing. He just keeps pushing and pushing and pushing
beat is hot ...... fuck fuck fuck fuckkkkkkkkk i could watch this all day
@Frode2oo9 its his weight class, hes a very powerful and skilled fighter and he is comfortable with his weight
Very nice Workout !!!
Respect to George St. Pierre for those calisthenics, very nice.Specially with the ball,I will try this one !!!
@uros150 Force = Mass times Acceleration.
Any added mass, if tranfered correctly into the punch, will have more force.
@thamoslil i think kos could make it a really hard fight, but gsp just seems like an all around beast. like have you seen tuf? his coaches are fukin amazing
@jb11379 Honestly id say this is safe to do a 3 day a week. ex: mon, wed, fri.

what is this video from?
4 workouts, 10 reps each equals one set. 3 sets make a workout. One minute rest between each set.
Very impressive 90lbs bench press wish I can do that.
@THET2236 boxers are probably some of the most conditioned athletes ever. lifting weights isn't conditioning.
yeah! mma.. always doing a super set to maximize there time in the gym..
@chavamma there's no need to be rude. you're right though he just got his black belt from renzo. i wasnt trying to be disrespectful btw.
nice workout, i do the whole routine with my friend and a lil bit heavier weight. id like to see this same video when he has a spot and workout partner.
Certainly not. Push ups and pull ups are closed-chain. They are great but different exercises. Pull ups is probably best for back development. I incorporate all in my work out to target same muscles differently.
4:58 "and.. the abdomi...th.. the habs"
wow he must have natural talent because this workout is basic 24 hr training
Yeah, there isolated back pulls!
@ezcondition this is not body building it is fitness and strength and endurance training, if you do slow reps with heavy weight you will gain more muscle and will not e able to fight his way :P
Yes muscles slow us down... Everyone knows that we move fast by being skinny and aerodynamic...
hey this is at my old gym!!! bmore ground control
@fanzi9 i'm not saying you can't be fast and weight train at the same time, i'm just saying that it will make you a bit slower if you used that spare time hitting the heavy bag instead, why do you think most boxers don't lift weights? they practically shun them.
What a nice guy
that guy is strong.
who cares if hes doing lighter weights in this video.... everyone knows hes a strong badass and he can kick your ass.
@h0lystrike during the bulking stage of lifting you can go heavy ALL THE TIME. you just have to hit each muscle group only once per week. with a full week's rest you will be able to go heavy.
this is not weight training......this is charge training
@uros150 did you watch the video at all, he explained it and it's common sense, the muscles you most use for a correct punch are the waist muscles.
gsp is awesome
nice kicks ..i always judge a man by his footwear
i think he working his hamstrings
I'm talking about flat-out physiological adaptations at the most rudimentary level. Athletes condition themselves. Boxers are definitely natural athletes by a large percentage so if 1 decided to use them, couldn't hurt if you customize the weight session to a boxers needs.
So the secret of getting perfect form is training with a pink floor.
I think he said he does 4 sets of 10 reps. With 60s in between supersets.
With the leg you can lift some very heavy charge.
then why is he out of breath after he is done with each set?keep in mind he has to cut weight to 170 that means u cant to much muscle on u. and if he was really working out he would be exploding and lifting for endurance. in mma u dont train your body for high weight low reps u go lower weight higher reps and u explode
trust me you get VERY strong from body weight workout/ plyometrics. just look at gymnast , there huge. yes in mma you can lift weights but you must not get to bulky and you must have muscular endurance.
@CAallday209 its solid that you know mate, even if its low weights it starts hurting after abit and even low weights feels like 100 kg
as a striker, i despise weight training.
@AsianStyled It's called lean muscle... muscle can be any size and any strength . his calves are most likely bigger than yours.
lol fast uncontrolled movements , good job (y)
@kredit787 its ok if your doing it maybe twice a week . I myself did it twice a week at my local mma gym. yea, flexibility is also a must in the world of MMA...big arms and being thrown in a kimura sucks. :)
I like how you try to tell him to do it the other way around, when im sure he knows what he is doing. And thats not all he does
i would of laughed hard if he started arching his back badly with a huge weight with the barbell curls!
The exercise @ 6.40, what is it called and what muscles is he training with it?
gsp looks thin in a shirt, but his skills could probably kill those hy00ge bodybuilders
Kosh is gonna beat his ass
If I'm not mistaking he is around 24 there.
@13seven13 well id say gsp really has after jake shields probably 3-4 more possible fights at WW until he would have to move up. the winner of fitch-penn gets a shot.
@Zenith4165 push presses? That's for mass. Squats add mass, deadlifts add mass.
dude, i m 145 and i bench the same as you. benchin 135 or not is the point, GSP can whoop yo ass any day. u bench 175 and u kno what that says about u as a fighter? NOTHING! its about how fast and how hard u can hit, not to mention technique and cardio for ground and take downs.

GSP should be carefull when doing weights...the grease makes things slippy ;)

@xpkevinxd Its so the back will stay strait and not arch..arching is bad technique and u can get hurt
@Manofbegging Is that why lesnar was in the NFL?
@yonex003 Right, but it is also true that in the submissions and wingless (google translator, sorry!) the force is very important!
"the back and the abdomi..abdo...the abs...." I love GSP :')
gsp could beat anderson silva
an mma fighter in the gym is different then a body builder's program, a good mma program for the gym makes you insanely explosive, and strong at the core.
GSP is the man..probably the only mma fighter i really like to watch.

Thanks GSP for sharing your training with us!
Will try it one day for sure! :)
@illbeatyoasslowkey LOL that wasnt me i left my yotube signed in and someone was commenting on my account .
yeah for a fighter its better to lift 200lbs for 15 min non stop than lift 400lbs 1 time and then get tired in 30 seconds
