The pickups are much more similar to a thunderbird than a 60s-70s EB-3 bass. Technically the new/reissue SG bass doesn't have a real "mudbucker", it just looks like one. The old EB-3s are a lot more finicky with the controls, the mudbucker has crazy output and zero treble, while the bridge pickup is really hot and easily becomes too shrill. The SG bass is a lot more balanced in terms of sound and easier to get a good tone out of.

Never was a fan. I had a friend in high school in the 1980s with a late 60s vintage. It always sounded like the amp was underwater. Or somebody had shoved a sleeping bag in front of the speaker. Just a muddy sound.

Yup it actually is! I admit that I'm a bit wierdo and I loved that dull muddy sound lol
