That was epic, surprising in just year or even less this can accumulate. You and the family were very lucky sir lessons learned and reminders for all of us. 👍
I've been throught the exact same experience in February this year . Had to do the same thing you did . We froze for like 48 hours . We choked for over 2 days on that smell . Had to evacuate the house all the animals and family in the cold at 2 am. Happy you guys are safe !♡
I have a pellet stove, and they recommend a cleaning every ton of pellets. Works out to every skid. I do a major cleaning in the fall before start up, then in jan/Feb, clean the pipe with sweep brooms, amazing how much ash accumulates, and how much better the stove runs after a good cleaning. Happy thanksgiving and glad you got it cleaned out. First year hired a pro, and watched how he did it..after that got the tools and did it myself. Good luck Jim and family. Somehow I am disappointed in "Mr Maintenance Jim", firing up his woodstove without cleaning the pipes first. Oh well shit happens. Never to old to learn I guess.
@@JimsNBHomestead what I like about your channel is that you never lie. It would have been easy to ignore this, and never post it. But just think, you may have saved lives in the future making people aware of the dangers. Thanks for your honesty, and God bless you. Just wish Jake would have left the Joker with you so we could keep tabs on him...lol
@@mreid9164 I keep it real. The whole woodstove thing was new to me that horizontally installed pipe is a collector of ash and creosote. We all grow in life 🙏 cheers and God Bless
My mistake was not educating myself about how much care is required to properly operate and maintain a wood burning appliance. Thanks for your comments
I thank you for the great question. If the chimney becomes clogged with creosote from wood stove use, the furnace exhaust can back up into the house, causing dangerous carbon monoxide levels.

Well said! my friend
I was on a channel where people said they clean once a month.

I'm so glad you were safe and it is a hard lesson to learn. Now we both know
Are still currently using your wood burning appliance? have you developed an inspection and cleaning program?
was about time🤣
Really? you think?
Glad to see it didn't turn out worse then it did
I smacked the pipe and the puff of smoke was the telltale
Scary stuff.. many houses have been lost from creosote. Happy Thanksgiving
Indeed

If you're using your wood stove every day in the winter. You should sweep your chimney once every few months.
Yessir I will keep an eye on it
That's always my fear especially with the pitch heavy wood here in Alberta

@@JimsNBHomestead what's creosote
The build up forms in the flue pipes from poor combustion, mainly improperly dried wood
