I bought one from Del and have been using it on my builds. Almost never make a standard fretboard any more. It is great to my ears. 👍🇦🇺

Del, you convinced me this time. I'll do a Just Intonation on my next build. That was a great job on How Great Thou Art. I almost felt like dancing to it.

I got me a neck already marked out for Just Intonation and ready to be put into a build with a difference. Only thing is being able to afford the fretting tools to finish the job off! Then I’ve got to get the confidence to try fretting followed by the actual fretting itself. I’ll get there though and it’s thanks to you my good chap! I think I’m going to name the guitar after you in some fashion and when I play Carnegie Hall I’ll be shouting your praises from the stage when I play your Just Intonation guitar.
    Stay awesome, Del!!

Del, Your arrangement of How Great Thou Art blew me away! You really need to make a CD. Del Puckett’s Greatest Hits. I nominate HGTA, Amazing Grace, Pipeline, Walk Don’t Run, plus a couple Puckett originals, some of those pretty ones with lots of Harmonics. I’d buy your CD for sure, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I’m not surprised just intonation draws a crowd.

He has albums. Although, forgive me Del, most of them are three strings too many. Look up "Love Never Fails", but yeah, a 3 string album would be great. I just wish he took his singing more seriously, he has a great voice, but needs pitch training, I suppose he thinks he is past it but I disagree.

How Great Thou Art is one of my Favorite Hymns! Great video! Del, I was at a rural Antique Barn (Massive Place) here in Missouri and was picking up some antique yard sticks and License plates when this guy walks up and says: You make the Cigar Box Guitars don't you? Have you watched those video's by the guy with long hair who plays Great? I said Justin Johnson (since everybody seems to know him)? He said no, he has a beard. I said, oh Del Puckett?! He said; yeah, I watch his video's all the time. He's real good!" :-) He doesnt build or play but knows Del Puckett. Thought I would share. Have a Great Sabbath Day Brother!

This sounds so fantastic. Sorry I can't get one, but the costs to ship and import to Europe are soooooo high.

Just intonation was used in early keyboard music , the problem being that you would only be able to play in one key. The equal temperament came around in 1700 hundreds when music really started to develop and there was a need to be able to modulate to any key. But, it is always a compromise. The reason why just intonation is so rewording to our ears, is because it exists in the nature/ cosmos. Whenever we open our mouths, out comes just intonation overtones. I`ve seen 6-string guitar fret boards with tilted/ curved fret boards, but it looks flimsy, to say the least. How about having a super fast wireless digital device controlling tuning pegs which all have a chips giving/ receiving info about tuning. What a nice project for guitar playing nerds ( engineers ) at the silicon valley?

Can a just intonation fretboard be done on a 6 string guitar ?

yes and no... but yes if you want a bunch of micro frets. google it or youtube search it... you’ll find it.

I'm really wanting to try out all your different kinds of fretboards, but on both shorter and longer scalelengths.
Is this just pure mathematics or is this based on stringing it up, marking the harmonics and then fretting afterwards?
How do you determine the two slightly off frets on the middle strings? And how do you choose between options when there are multiple close together?
I know that was a lot, but really keen to learn :)
I'm in Denmark so not much fun in shipping fretboards to and from the US :(
Keep up the great work, love seeing new videos in my notification feed.

Maybe I have missed a video here and there (so sorry, Del!!!), but that laser burned scale guide... do you sell those? Is that for a 23" scale? Are you able to make others (I tend to like a 25" scale, personally).
    Sorry for the 20 questions.

I’m in the same boat! Do you sell the guides? If not, how much for the JI fretboards

I only have the one laser burned template... I sell fretboards based off this template... they are 25 inch... you can use a photo copy machine and reduce or enlarge to any scale you need...

The intonation sounds - I'd say - identical to what German folk instruments are tuned like (though I don't know about their actual tuning - it just sounds the same).

Do you have an album? I think the 7th harmonic sounds good. My electric guitar is in a open just D7 chord tuning (DADF#CD). I like to mute the 3rd when I play the 7th chord. I think these higher harmonics work better in higher voicings or mixed with the lower harmonics. Willie McBlind uses 7th, 11th & 13th harmonics without making it sound harsh. ruclips.net/video/2ZCLvsr2WQo/видео.html
