My band played this at our spring concert about a year ago. This is a hectic but cool piece. I played bass clarinet on this piece. Woohoo to stagger breathing. 🎵
If you become a band director and want your marching band to play this piece, have them play it as written. It will get you high marks if you happen to include it in your show and play it at a marching competition. It's a very technical piece and if your band plays it well then a judge would have to be crazy not to give you full points for it.
@@RockStarOscarStern634 Will it be on Musescore? I hope so. How will you orchestrate the strings? Will you make them the same parts as the saxes (except the contrabass)? Will there be a Contrabassoon? Contrabass Clarinet? a 4th trumpet? 4th trombone? any tubular bells? Contraalto Clarinet?
My daughter's marching band played this in their show as their opening piece in the early 2000's. They performed in the Bands of America Grand Nationals Championship Finals and came in a very close 2nd place. Everybody there said they should have won that year. Anyway, they played this piece exactly as written with maybe a few measures cut out for time. They played it VERY well. Last night I went to a marching band contest and a band played this and butchered it. They didn't play it as written and it wasn't very good. They didn't play all of the runs which is what makes the piece so technical and beautiful. Quite frankly, I say if you cannot play it close to as it is written then don't play it at all. It ruins the piece.
As stated above, my daughter's marching band played it as written with a few bars cut out in the middle for time. They came in 2nd place that year at Bands of America Grand Nationals. All of the judges gave them 1st place except for one judge. They lost by the slimmest margin. Anyway, the fact that they played it as written and fast was impressive.
About time they released this.
