It is a good ole boys club. Short and simple.
I had zero combat, military, law enforcement experience and I got a job. My best friend was an EOD guy in the Army who got injured and needed help. He was a disabled vet, had numerous friends in the contracting industry, and he was able to get his own contracts because of these things.
He knew that I had no combat experience, but he also knew that I can shoot, plug a wound, work under stress, and he knew that he can depend on me when all else fails.
He somehow got a contract working in West Africa so he assembled a “high speed, low drag” team of tough guys (ie his drinking buddies; some marines, one was a former green beret, another was a cop, a few army infantry guys, a fellow eod tech, and 3 nobodies like myself = 13 guys total).
It was simple stuff. No benefits, no parades, no real support from the Malian government or UN, and it didn’t pay well. It was one of the more sketchy and lower paying contracts, so all the cool groups didn’t want to waste their time with it.
It was incredibly boring, but also one of the best times in my life. I got numerous contacts from working alongside others in the know and learned quite a bit about private contracting life.
It also showed me that you don’t need military experience to do it, it is just the type of job that needs people with a soldier’s mindset, so all of the best applicants will have military experience on their resume. If you’re like me and couldn’t joint the military, but know some vets, then you’re likely in luck

Vegas has a huge private security industry. The MGM started a private SWAT team after the October 1st massacre. The recreational marijuana business also has ramped up its security hiring due to the legalization of marijuana and the cash that gets transported. Hotels hire tons of security here. From traditional security to plain clothes to active shooter response to everything in between.
You do need skills and a clean record though. Lots of veterans are getting in easily though. Also former police.

In South America, it's not like a suicide wish, but still pretty dangerous if you are doing that work. 90% of the time you won't have excitement, but the stuff that does happen is enough to rob your sleep forever. Doing this the private route in an actual war zone is what guys do when they don't want to come back home again.

    • @warriorgp4640
      @warriorgp4640 3 года назад +5

@@Cody2nd yes sir, you can. You don't have to have contractor training first in order to get the gig. Once you're hired by a contractor for the gig, then you will take the contractor courses before deployment.
The easiest way for a medic to get an overseas contract is to get a few years medic experience and during that time take up necessary courses that will put your resume' at the top of the candidate list so you can get a call for a gig.
This is what I did, which is the easiest way to do it: got my paramedic license, during my 2 years working as a medic, I did volunteer security on the side once a week. I took a two day tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) course. I went to washington DC and obtained a special police officer license, which is like a two week course. So, I have tactical medicine, security work and law enforcement certified. Could have done it all in one year if I would have had my ducks in a row early on.
You'd likely get a call or email pretty quick with these creds.

I'm commenting to say that, by name, Blackwater no longer exists. Easiest way in is the same in every job/career. Who you know. Now military combat skills and training are important and you don’t have to shell out of pocket like private training courses. But you meet a lot of people during private training courses and someone may have a lead for you. On a different subject I’ve seen some disrespectful comments on Army Rangers in this thread. Rangers are some of the smartest most capable warriors the world has ever seen. They have my respect 100%. All the special forces guys do. In fact anyone who volunteers during wartime or were drafted years ago deserves and have earned my respect. You don’t have to agree with politicians but soldiers follow orders unless they are unjust and go against the Constitution. They are the reason we don’t get invaded. Much respect! I meant to respond to a different comment not start a thread. Just wanted to clarify.

This is almost the exact story for government contracting in general. I have a company Asteres Technologies, we are an R&D firm with a focus on AI, Space, and Autonomous vehicle design. There is this veil of "fair open competition" with government contracting, but it is actually a giant bro network of favors and "oh talk to this guy". But we did the same thing, just put ourselves out there and did it. I will say though, make sure you have a shit load of savings, like two years of rent. It can take that long before you have a steady stream of income.

He's right about having a skill set. I was known as the guy that can drive anything, fly just about everything and able to fix stuff with nothing. I didn't have military experience but had friends from the military who opened doors for me and the rest is history. Even after having kids and hanging things up for the most part. I still get offered jobs.
One thing that might sound obvious is knowing how to work in a 3rd world shit hole. I've seen plenty of ex military guys choke because they couldn't adapt to foreign equipment. So experience helps and there's jobs that aren't security that can also open doors but you need to think outside the box and get boots on the ground.

@@roninkhan9669 long story but my grandfather was a pilot in ww2 and after bought surplus planes and had a crop dusting business. My dad was a helo pilot in Vietnam and then did dusting too. So I started flying at a very young age and at one point was going to go for a record as the youngest pilot. I was flying solo by 12.But right before I could the faa added age restrictions to the private pilots license because of some crashes. Still I was able to solo so I racked up hours flying everything I could including a NA T6,Piper Pawnee and maule m4 etc before my 16th birthday. I was disappointed that I couldn't test out so I also spent time in our Bell 47 because there were some records I could go for with a helicopter under the new regulations. But funding fell through (wasn't rich) and I met a girl lol. After this I sprayed for a while, went for my ATP,flew in Alaska then regionals before realizing the airlines weren't for me(didn't take long lol). So I did some survey work before getting on with a film company that eventually turned into flying for a private security firm.
It's crazy how it worked out but I've always been a adrenaline junky and do everything 200% although right now I'm looking to go back to aerial spraying. Unless something cooler comes up that the wife agrees too lol.

Joining the military is the best way, followed by law enforcement, if you want to do private contract work and don't think you can hack it serving your country (it's easy man, just join the coast guard and apply for a VBSS team). @@BoneTactical It was looking for something a little more on the information/Content. I do admit that came off a little harsh. But I do respect that you took the time out of your day to respond to the comment. So I’m going to subscribe if nothing else for that reason alone.

Good vid.... Need to mention how nasty some of these jobs can be too.. DIRTY shit for a decent amounts of greenbacks... Just depends on real-world experience and like you said in the video... Can't even tell you how much I agree on the stupid shit getting friends killed... Always a serious point that can't be hammered enough into rookies.
Nothing is ever easy, pleasant, or clean. And if it is, it really isn't...

Bones, my question is how would I go about getting into this, and other like jobs? I was going to join the military but due to a recent motorcycle accident i can't. What would be the best steps I can take to get employment as a contractor?
