Love it!! Tip for anyone learning the strumming pattern at the 2:04 minute mark: Play it at 0.5 speed, then normal speed, then 1.25, then 1.5. Eventually, you'll be strumming as fast as she does!
Actually slowing down can make things even more difficult, since the beats are spaced further apart at a slower tempo, there is more room for error and it's harder to keep a natural flowing rhythm. A moderate pace is better. The truth of it is, you just have to practice a lot 😅 There’s more on this strum in its lesson as well : ruclips.net/video/lGM8ic7IMdo/видео.html

this was aaaaawwwesome! you're making it look SO fun...which it is. Wish I could do exactly what you did in this vid. LOVE the songs choices. Much love and thanks for sharing!!
Yes it's called left-hand muting. If you release the squeeze a bit so you're just touching the strings, it mutes them. Sometime I release and touch the strings with the whole hand to mute them, just depends on the chord shapes really. I'm self-taught and it's something that came naturally after a LOT of playing, a few years of playing gigs 20-25 hours a week. When I made this video, I didn't know *that* I was doing it or what it was called. It usually happens on the 2 and the 4 of a bar/measure - where something like a clap or a rim shot would be in the beat. Does that help? 😬
@@BrookePalmer kind of but it seems like you are not using it all the time to mute(chuck) i guess the Sound is so cool because you are often using it to keep the sound of the chord short. Am i right?
@@BrookePalmer there is always a catch 😅😅😅 we will see if I will bring in the effort one day to slow the video down and learn to play it like you. I am just an "advanced" beginner and it is a lot of work to learn it without an exact tutorial but you did good work at least it is an good inspiration and maybe i will come back for it in future. Thanks and greetings from Germany
Slowing down doesn't help actually, it makes it more difficult! 😅 A moderate pace is better - it's harder to keep good rhythm when the tempo is very slow and the beats are spread further apart, there is more room for error. Also consistent rhythm is more important than hitting every single part of a strum pattern - as you can see from your comment that I don't do the left-hand muting every time: there is no pattern when you are strumming naturally. If you don't have consistent rhythm, then it doesn't matter if you know and are doing all parts of a pattern, because it will sound awful if you are not playing in rhythm 😆 People would rather listen to a simple 1-2-3-4 down strum in rhythm than a complicated pattern with no rhythm. From what I've heard from other players and in my own experience, it takes a few years of practice to develop really natural strumming and rhythm for more complicated strum patterns. A lot of people have the same sort of struggles as you are, they send me questions and comments, and then a year or so later they will message me again and say "ok now I understand what you meant" 😅 Have you watched this lesson - important info about strums and rhythm: ruclips.net/user/liveNlaEbsUu19U @Ben_dps

Okay I've been messing around with this and am struggling with the strumming pattern. I feel like there are some chucks thrown in places. Do you have a video that breaks down this pattern a little more?
This is so fresh & invigorating during the lockdown. Subscribed! Thank you for doing what you do and pushing out joy into the world. One question: are you playing on a tenor? or concert? I've played the chords on a baritone ukulele but it doesn't sound as...crisp.
Oh dear, I’m a beginner Uke player and you are now the person I want to end up as good as. What uke are you playing to get this sort of metallic guitar changy sort of sound? Is it electric? Thanks
.... “you’re not the person I want to end up as good as” you say....Yet you are asking questions about how I play...? I’m confused. 😅 Anyway to answer your question, it’s not any special kind of uke - I use all four fingers to strum instead of just my pointer finger. That’s probably the sound you are talking about. Happy strumming 😊

It's a tenor! The brand is Waikiki - it's a Chinese brand, I bought it in China. I suggest at least concert size, tenor is even better, for any kind of music. The frets are bigger than soprano, so there's more space for your fingers to form chords, and it has more depth of sound. Happy playing!
Funny you should ask....because I mash that up with No Scrubs! While it has a background riff, it doesn't have a melody, the hook is rapped, not sung, so really you can play anything you want as long as it has the right rhythm - this one works as does the No Scrubs riff. I can figure out the chords though and post them later.
Hiii, in your demo is there a lot more muting happening within the strumming? Because when I play it doesn't sound like that! haha I know I will probably need to practise more, but just wondering whether the main difference is because there is a lot more muting? Hope that makes sense?

The brand is Waikiki (Chinese brand, I bought it in Shanghai, China) and it's a tenor. I'm not sure if you're asking because of the design or because of the sound. Often people ask me about the type of uke or the strings because I strum with all my fingers instead of just the pointer finger, so the sound is fuller.
