The project is called Talos, i spent the last years as a material scientist developing the system. It is a total disaster and if it comes to anything in 20 years I would be amazed. We can’t get the biomechanics to work, the suit is too heavy, we can get the ankle joint to work, we can get the width of the shoe to fit in the door comfortably, and we can’t get it to carry enough weight to substantially upgrade the armor capacity of the operator. All of this and we have about a 35 to 40 minute battery life with lithium ion rechargeable‘s. This is all on taxpayer money. The suit does not fly. everything this guy is saying is total BS.
Battery life is the first thing I thought of. I figured maybe an hour, which puts you at the complete mercy of logistics changing during a high level military op. You get pinned down and they can't get to you right away. Now what? And the nuclear battery sounds like it might work from an energy component. But shit, what if he steps on an IED or it gets shot? That's a small bomb now
I don't know who Jay is but I can tell you he knows what he is talking about. This guy likely thinks he knows the tech and has been handed a line of bullshit from many engineering managers and scientists. Agreed Jay, Having spent time in rooms with people…this guy isn’t guarded enough and runs his mouth. Robotics engineer here: I'm a little skeptical of what they are saying and they said it. The world is a loooooong ways away from an iron man suit imo (which personally I think isn't even practical with power limitations, and modern weaponry). It would be a multi million dollar coffin to the pressure wave of any explosive and a reliability nightmare. Autonomy is the future of warfare, but we are not as advanced as people think... Bad weather conditions... at night? Yeah, good luck with reliable perception. Active research topic (we're getting there though!) BTW, there's a company called gravity industries which has a real flying jet suit, check them out. They have like 15 minute flight times using jet fuel... Way more power density than any thermo nuclear device and that's about all they can do. They realised its a bust for military and have shifted to search and rescue application, very cool tech though
Just reading your comment and how you articulate it I can tell you’re for sure legit. However I don’t think this guy is trying to bullshit I think he’s truly saying what he actually thinks is true. I think the military’s use of the word “Iron Man” for these suits and their evolution is so far off from our idea of the actual Iron Man suit that we know from the movies and comics. So I don’t think she’s wrong or full of BS. It’s just the project name they gave it. Which isn’t anywhere near the actual Iron Man suit we think of when we hear the name. But given time and advancements in technology, we could actually see it one day.
@@Killacam1992 yeah that is totally fair, and I don't have a military background at all so it is interesting to hear that inside perspective. I think he was probably just excited and passionate about the stuff they were exposed to which we are all guilty of sometimes haha
Something that the Iron Man archetype captures quite well is the technological holy grail of generating large amounts of energy in a compact and efficient way. Tony before and after that invention are two different individuals despite all the genius you want to put into him as a character. If humanity had access to a similar source of energy, it could possibly advance 200 years in a decade.
Could, but would never. They would never give us free energy. Their black budgets are 99% funded on the wars for oil and 1% tax payer money. They would hold onto that secret like it was the arc of the covenant in Jerusalem 2,000bce and I fully expect that if a suit carrying that kind of battery gets disabled in battle, they would instantly drop warheads on it to keep the secret, whether the soldier in it is alive or not. Secrecy is Paramount.
I remember talks of exo suits a decade ago when I was still serving. Don't know if they were real, but saw blueprints of it and they're supposed to help you carry weight like it's nothing, and now you see the military releasing footage of jetpacks. Imagine what they're working on behind the scenes. I don't doubt that they're working on crazy tech, I mean just look at the B2 Spirit, it was produced in the 80s, they would've developed it years prior.
One can just imagine what would happen if A.I. were used to sabotage or hijack those things. It might be amusing to see what happens if Spambots were upgraded to full artificial intelligence to serve that purpose. They might try to fly the pilot to brothels or to open air markets in the Third World.
lol wait, he says the suit weighs a thousand pounds and Joe says "ooh so you could only get a couple of those on a plane" and he says "Idk, 4?". A 747 can carry 400 people. The standard 747-400 Freighter can carry 248,000 lb (103,419 kg) of cargo approximately
I assumed they were talking about much smaller vehicles, like fighter aircraft etc. that could bear significantly lower loads. Still have no idea what they can carry, but it would be weird for a guy with background in MMA where people are constantly weighed, to value 1000lbs as 100 people.
He was in part of designing a suit for SEAL missions, they don't drop in using a 747. He talks about specific spec's on Shawn Ryans podcast if your interested, but admits that when he was booted from the program the suit wasn't anywhere like what they wanted (it was just a minimal exoskeleton suit, not the flying mega-suit that they planned on)

"This system is so reactive that our previous tests with un-augmented volunteers ended in failure. The amplified movements broke their bones, tore their muscles, their own agony induced spams killed them." - Dr. Catherine Halsey describing the powered assault armor named Mjolnir.
I think the mjolnir armor systems are a much more reality grounded place to start than iron man suits. Halo has a more realistic progression of internal power source than jumping straight to impossible alien tech... Unless we actually do get our hands on some impossible alien tech. In which case, the air force, navy and army need to all drop their compartmentalisation and work together and give up their most high tech secrets to each other. Consolidation could be all we need to actually get Spartans and iron men in the field. If the conspiracies have any truth to them.
The problem with Iron man suit is not only the power source but also the Gforces, in the movies Tony can do a lot of stuff which normally would kill him, he has to have some sort of antigravity mechanism in his suit. So I understand we are talking about a more down to earth suit.
I got the same kinda vibe about how he was describing the tech, half way through this YT JRE clip...I don't want to subscribe to Spotify just to watch the entire video, but he may be legit.
I saw some in person and the first problem I saw was that the second you would leave an urban environment they are useless. Also the amount of weight you could carry on your back was ridiculous.

@@jescollo I agree but it’s a bit of a stretch going from an exoskeleton suit to the Ironman one. Lifting heavy things is far easier that a creating a suit that can fly manoeuvres that a plane couldn’t do. I think that project will live longer than him.
If they could engineer a way the suits operate, allowing the operator to move faster with spending less energy then this technology would be revolutionary.
@@TattooedWorld but they require alot less energy than conventional walking/running and you can go faster. With gearshift incline terrain can actually be easier on a bike. The bike was revolutionary. I guess an iron man bike suit would be too chunky though but similar design principles could be used to make efficient use of human energy (as you were implying).
I wonder if he's talking about the TALOS project which was not 1000lbs for sure! The military tried to use gas and nuclear energy a very long time ago but they stayed with electricity and multiple projects are still going on but mainly because of a lack of a reliable power source, they haven't adopted any of them yet.

Then the question is, Is it Worth It to develop Iron Man suits if the military has to basically re-make everything in order to power the suits, carry them around, provide logistics, all the unsexy but needed things to keep an armed force in the field?
Depends on who you ask because a situation like that would keep the military contractors and the military industrial complex going and fully funded for years and years to come. And then we can sell our old equipment to someone like Israel or Saudi Arabia so that they can use it to commit genocide. It’s win win for everyone but the people of this country actually footing the bill and the enlisted men and women who are underpaid instead of being well compensated like they should be.

Exoskeleton technology & "super suits" have been a wet dream for most militaries in the world for many a year. SciFi culture most definitely has something to do with that, considering SciFi is just a "out of the box" way of scientific theory. In theory it's a great idea. But sadly every prototype I've personally seen has been a bit of a let down. I believe we'll get there eventually, we definitely have the potential but in my opinion we don't have the tech just yet. Certainly we aren't very far off it though. I think a majority of us will still be alive to see it. It weird how SciFi has pushed us scientifically. So many things from the early SciFi days are now being developed or have already been developed. Humanity is an interesting species when you try look at us from a third person (or species I guess) perspective.
all of the suits will be clumsy unless they can literally splice them into the human nervous system. outside of that the control delay will be too long for it to be even close to efficient
The only reason I can think of that you need the human form on the battlefield to begin with is urban combat - particularly going room by room, and possibly for capturing rather than killing an enemy. Otherwise you can just send any assortment of munitions from very long range. If you can develop effective enough close-quarters robotic platforms I don't see the need for humans engaged in direct combat, with or without an ironman suit. Basically, if you had a powered suit, then just remove the human and send the suit, remotely piloted or fully autonomous.
But think of how terrifying it would be to have one of those sent to kill you. No thanks sounds tremendously abusable. Have you seen what our presidents do with drone strikes? Imagine if they could get their grubby paws on a robot suit. It makes me cringe thinking about it
Wars are much more personal, its like saying to two ppl that want to kill each other - hey why dont you put on these glows and just box a little. You dont want to kill his robots, you want to kill him and vice versa. Just my thoughts about it.
I wouldn't trust Gary Busey to shine my shoes, much less to make an "Iron Man" suit. Those people in the military who hired him must have massive balls of steel. 😳

When asked what it’s made of he said something along the lines of “oh it’s changed so much… *thinks* titanium, carbon fibre, all kinds of top stuff…”. That’s what I’d make up off the top of my head too. He had absolutely zero details
Exoskeleton tech is nothing new and it's public knowledge that the pentagon is interested. The problem is that neither of them are engineers so some of the details are embellished or inaccurate, but the bigger picture is there. I have some doubts about the autonomous killers claim. Aircraft, even civilian ones, have a large degree of automation built in so we're pretty close to autonomous fighter jets. Boats are automated to a lesser extent but it's advancing yearly. Ground vehicles are still years, maybe decades, away though.
I hope you make it to Cc one day. You have that Shift button function down pat. In what reality does someone say "I'm a former Seal working on Top Secret projects," and expect them to spill the beans? You better believe that "Defense Spending" is over Half the Federal Budget. You saw how messy it got when the Doctors of this Country laid their claim to "National Defense." You want to ignore that U.S. tax dollars were spent to Build Infrastucture for Biological Weapons IN China because it was OutLawed in the U.S., for good reasons. Now they have told us to take our Dollars and go home. That FORCED Congress to change a Law made by Cooler Minds.
They only let you work with the old batteries eh? Lol they take them from old cell phones?
Battery life is the first thing I thought of. I figured maybe an hour, which puts you at the complete mercy of logistics changing during a high level military op. You get pinned down and they can't get to you right away. Now what? And the nuclear battery sounds like it might work from an energy component. But shit, what if he steps on an IED or it gets shot? That's a small bomb now
He never said it flies. He said "it does a lot of things".
I don't know who Jay is but I can tell you he knows what he is talking about. This project has been a shit show and we are not close to this being reality. A lot of the other stuff he is talking about is horseshit too. I'm a little skeptical of what they are saying and they said it. Active research topic (we're getting there though!)
BTW, there's a company called gravity industries which has a real flying jet suit, check them out. They have like 15 minute flight times using jet fuel... Way more power density than any thermo nuclear device and that's about all they can do. They realised its a bust for military and have shifted to search and rescue application, very cool tech though

It could revolutionize space travel, mobile tech and a lot of human needs.
Precisely. As amazing as the suit is, it’s the arc reactor that’s so integral.
*cough* red harring *cough*
Could, but would never. They would never give us free energy. Their black budgets are 99% funded on the wars for oil and 1% tax payer money. They would hold onto that secret like it was the arc of the covenant in Jerusalem 2,000bce and I fully expect that if a suit carrying that kind of battery gets disabled in battle, they would instantly drop warheads on it to keep the secret, whether the soldier in it is alive or not. Secrecy is Paramount.

It makes me cringe thinking about it
Humans cost less
Remove humans you remove error but also you remove the things that makes us human. Compassion

“Joe Rogan is a toxic political podcast!”
Actual episode: We’re making cool iron man suits
The "aliens" from Roswell were actually time travelling humans from the future wearing iron man skin suits.

I doubt it, however there is agreement amongst some researchers that the "greys" are sort kind of biological A.I.
Right on JRE crew👍 always great seeing Duncan Trussel ..... without the costumes
Na
The level of polite skepticism is off the charts.
He lost all credibility when he said we would only be able to transport 4 of the suits they weigh 1,000 pounds each. The C-5 galaxy has a payload weight capacity of 281,000 lbs. I’m sure if we can transport tanks and chinooks, we could transport 12,000 pounds of “iron man” suits
He was talking about standard issue Humvees and helicopters.
No part of that conversation was about massive frieght planes.
You smooth brain.
transporting one unit
@@icecoldchilipreppers are you dumb? At 0:52 he literally says, “What airplanes are you gonna use to get these guys around?” And he also mentions what boats would we use? Then Joe asks him how many would we be able to fit in a plane and he says, “I don’t know, 4?” If there’s one thing the military doesn’t have issues with is transporting very heavy things anywhere in the world
Nuclear Battery!?! LOL LOL, Joe you should have called him on that! I think Joe has so much insight into to everyday issues and a good BS meter. But when it comes to SciFi related stuff he's out to lunch, or possibly just letting these guys ramble on for entertainment purposes'
I got the same kinda vibe about how he was describing the tech, half way through this YT JRE clip...I don't want to subscribe to Spotify just to watch the entire video, but he may be legit.
I guess he’s talking about a small nuclear reactor. Not sure if anyone has made one that small tho.
So I’m convinced this guy has never done anything with science ever
Pay attention to who you’re speaking about. “She has not done anything science related ever”****
He looks like Nick Nolty and Count Chocola had a baby
I think its a "she" now... really makes me proud of our military!
This guy is making it up. When asked what it does, he said “all kinds of stuff”. When asked what it’s made of he said something along the lines of “oh it’s changed so much… *thinks* titanium, carbon fibre, all kinds of top stuff…”. That’s what I’d make up off the top of my head too. He had absolutely zero details
Ya cause he doesn’t want his door kicked in bro. Think a little.
Yes this is totally made up but Rogan also believes Bob Lazar lmfao.
Yup this Guy is full of shit like Rogan would Say...
I hope you make it to Cc one day.
You have that Shift button function down pat.
In what reality does someone say "I'm a former Seal working on Top Secret projects," and expect them to spill the beans?
You better believe that "Defense Spending" is over Half the Federal Budget.
You saw how messy it got when the Doctors of this Country laid their claim to "National Defense."
You want to ignore that U.S. tax dollars were spent to Build Infrastucture for Biological Weapons IN China because it was OutLawed in the U.S., for good reasons.
Now they have told us to take our Dollars and go home.
That FORCED Congress to change a Law made by Cooler Minds.
Your inner child may crave abilities like that of Spiderman or Aqualung, but Mothers aren't keen on it. Neither does anyone who uses words like Containment, or FUBAR.
This guy honestly really raises a lot of questions… look at the description of this podcast. He has A LOT of medals.. and A LOT of really high accolades. Shit like that always has to make people raise an eyebrow. The same thing when they work on “super secret projects” like an Ironman suit??? Just sayin… look into it..
Thank....you.......I dont expect Joe to just flat out call people liars on his podcast, but sometimes I wonder why he willingly interviews people who are full of shit.
Well she isn’t a guy
This chick*
You guys just need the palladium arc reactor. Did you not watch Iron Man? 😂
