I appreciate the family friendly videos. I am part of a Christian Off Road Club and I love to share your videos and the fact that you keep them "clean" means a lot to me. Thank you for all the good info and keep up the great work.
FINALLY!!! A video that is SIMPLE, TO THE POINT & EASY to follow for a novice like me! After watching this, I now know for sure I can do this on my vehicle!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Very well done! Organized, easy to understand, good demo including camera angles, no BS fillers which waste time... I'm both pleased and impressed, thanks for a great "How-To"!
Is there anything this channel hasn't covered? I was about to take my Jeep and have someone else install those lamps until I saw this video and thought, why don't I just do this myself? So that's what I'm going to do this weekend. Best Jeep Channel anywhere!
Awesome video, all the other videos were explained poorly, confusing, or made it look complicated. But yours made it seem like the average person can do it easily in an hour or two. Thank you so much!!!!! 8D
I must say your videos are really great. You can put things simply and you go straight to the point, I really dig it. That's what the "jeep spirit" is all about. I just wanted to ask you one question though : why do you connect the wire that powers the switch to the battery and not to the fuse box (like you did in the video about the dual batteries wiring)? Couldn't you have done that? And if not, why?
Dude you are awesome. I just bought a 91 XJ and all of your videos are helping me with everything that I have wanted to do it. Thanks for all the videos. keep up the good work.
Excellent, straight-forward "how-to" vid. I just got a set of KC Apollo spots, and I'm getting ready to install them on my JK and I am very confident doing so after watching your video. Thank you for taking the time!
Great tutorial! Really good if someone has never done this before. But just a little wisdom, always disconnect your negative terminal when doing electrical work! I once shorted a ratchet across terminals while removing a negative to do some work, it welded the socket onto the ratchet, and welded the mechanism in the ratchet solid. Just a little advice.
Thanks enjoyed watching you put your lights together. I am getting a Wurton bar fitted next week and looking forward to the difference it will make. Glad to hear that you can set them up to hi and low beam setting..makes sense. Didn't take you long if you know what your doing. From Oz.
This was an extremely helpful video. I was able to install my lights without any help other than going back to the youtube video from BleepinJeep. In fact, I bought the lights after seeing the video because I was convinced I could do it myself. Keep'em comin' for Wrangler YJ. and THANK YOU!!!
bleepinjeep Haha, exactly what i was getting at there haha but that works too! and in all honesty i hooked up my led light bar on my Cherokee today and i just bypassed the relay and used a wire with a fuse on it and it works amazingly
Best instruction I've found so far. I am having a problem with CREE LED lights and need to better understand the need for a "relay" since the lights came with no instructions other than RED is positive and Black is negative. My rocker switch is the same as yours and the LED light is on when the outside LED lights are off... Can't figure out the wiring issue.
Think of the relay as the actual on/off switch, while the switch inside the car is like a remote control for the relay. You could theoretically wire it exactly the same way you wire a light switch in your home, but then the switch and the cables to it probably would need to be thicker, and since the car only has 12 V (compared to 110-230 V at home, depending on what country you live in), you would also lose a lot of power because of the longer cables. With a relay, the power can go a shorter way from the battery to the lights, and the switch just controls the relay's on/off.
I used a self-tapping screw to mount the relays for my XJ's headlight harness to the passenger side fender near the battery (where the cruise control setup is on vehicles that have it), and one of the radiator support bolts for the ground.
Don't forget to check local laws when installing. Some states require covers, some require being wired into the brights or dims (depends on the state). Some have limits on the number of lights you can have. When buddy put lights on his truck, he used a solenoid designed to run a heater on a school bus, lol. Needless to say, it handled the current draw fine. ;)
I forget what the number is but snag some form an XJ next time you are at the junkyard. It will be very difficult to make the entire harness though but I bet you can find one online or from painless. if you go through my website you might can get some kind of discount
Hey awesome video it really helped a lot. I have a light bar and need to extend the black and red wires that go to the lights. What is the best way to do that? Thanks
I had to come back to this for a second viewing bc I didn't understand the relay.... And why you need it. I argued about it with my self if I needed it or not... Lol then I learned about them and well now I'm back. Great videos. I have a '70 scout in which I'm doing my own mods to. In fact I spotted your chain step on one of your rigs... I'll be doing that this weekend. Once again great vids....
Nate Karr you dont have to have the relay but most switches arent designed to carry much of a load and they will go out, not to mention having 12volts coming into the cab all over the place is not a good idea and may lead to shorts/fires.
This is a good vid. I've been meaning to add some cheapo lights to my TJ and too many vids just say "Then run wires through firewall and hook to switch", I hate that. Thanks for an informative and CLOSE UP look at the steps instead of a shaky lens from 6 feet away.
ahhhh, dang, that reminds me. I have to wire up my lights. I got one of those cool glow switch boards that fits in the ash tray in the XJ. it has 4 switches.. hmmm I better get on that. Recommendation on the XJ for a place to put relays?
Great video man. I watched so many times while waiting for my kc lights from Amazon that when they arrived I installed them without looking at your vid or instructions. The white wire now has a doo dad on it out of the box lol.
Nice video! Just installed baja fog lights and only one works. There was no relay in the kit. I thought one light might be a defect and took back to store but clerk tested it on my battery and it lit up. What could be the problem? Bad wiring? Thanks in advance for your help.
So I am going to be putting quite a few lights on my TJ in the near future; nine lights to be exact. My big question is: in order to get the best results from the lights, am I going to need to swap in a high output alternator? I feel like my stock 117A alternator just isn't going to cut it.
Excellent video! One of the best I've seen on RUclips. Just bought some killer LED off-road lights (Dash Flash NIGHTBLASTER) and this will be a big help.
look for a 12v SPST relay. (single pole, single throw) The typical 30/40 amp relays will do for a pair of lights up to 150w each which is a lot. There are a few specific cases where a pre-made harness is wired for a dual 87 relay (Hella and KC do this on some of their harnesses). YOu will know your harness needs a dual 87 relay if your lights come on separately. One light turns on when the switch is OFF, then the other light comes on when the switch is turned ON.
Question. Would it matter if each light were grounded to the vehicle SEPARATELY or alternatively how about if both grounds (one from each light) were connected together and then ground to a single point? Would the differences determine series or parallel? Please explain. TYSM
Great vid thanks, I'm trying to mount an LED bar on the roof rack of my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, I have what looks to me like the same wire harness you have in the vid, how do I get the wires from the lights to under the hood? Can't seem to figure that part out????
hey matt, thanks so much for your work and teaching. Im a beginner and am attempting to connect 2 small blue light emregency LEDs to a switch and my battery with no relay. Do you think I require one? I believe they are low amps and small. If I do not require one, can you model out the wiring diagram? I would assume with no relay it'd be even more simple. Thank you so much for all you do.
i believe you just solved my problem on why my lights would not turn on, i had wires sticking out of the ground and battery part, so i just have to clamp them instead and hope they turn on.
Hi, Thanks a lot for the video, quite informative indeed. I have a basic question bit this is my first time to try and install lights myself. Just wanted to know if there will be any problems if I extend the length of any of the wires as I will be installing them on the car roof while my battery is under the passenger seat. Also what type of wires to be used for extension and where to ground the brown wire? Sorry for long question.
I finally got around to getting lights. However I have 5 on the roof and I'd like to get all the harnesses to go to one switch so they all turn on at once. How'd I do that and how'd I hide my wires coming from the roof?
So if I don't want to run off of the headlight wire for my fogs, I can just run that wire right to the battery? Mine is a red wire, it goes from back of switch marked supply volts. Would I run it to the positive battery terminal instead of into a headlight wire? Thanks
well no, you want a 12 volt relay probably 40 amps. These are pretty common, google "KC HiLites 12 Volt 40 Amp Lamp Relay". but like I said you can pull them off a jeep in the junkyard if you dont want to pay $6 plus shipping.
ive wired my 08 f150 with spyder halos myself, and was successful. But for any of these offroad lights, would i just need the battery as a source of power. i would only need to wire it into the headlights if i wanted the low beam and high beams correct? sorry if i sound naive, im only 16.
Awesome video. You wouldn’t happen to know how to wire 5 Kc hilites to one switch? They’re the old school kind, on top of a roll bar. I can’t find any info on the Internet, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
great and informative video matt. but I was watching the 42 inch led light bar video and I was wondering how to run the wires to the roof lights? I have 4 kc hi-lites that ive mounted and im trying to figure out how to get the wires through the roof? maybe a video on that unless you have one already and I cant find it...... thanks for the help. I have a 93 xj by the way
Nice and clear. I'd like to put fog lights in the empty fog light bays on my '08 Patriot North (5spd manual) can you post or direct me to one? Nice channel.
Do you know what wiring harness I need for the stock 98 TJ fog lights in order to use the stock light connectors? Or do I just need to cut them and use a different connector. ?
Very interesting, thanks. I would like to fit some extra driving lights like the ones you fitted but as I will use them on-road, I need to have them turn off when the high beam is flicked off. I would like to see how that bit of the wiring should be done.
Sheldon Cooper take the wire from the relay that goes to ignition hot and splice it into a hot wire for your high beams. This might help a bit: ruclips.net/video/49I9YAn1oQg/видео.html
Could you mount the black thing that is next to the ground wire to the negative battery terminal? I want to do this but I have nothing like what looks like yours. For instance, the yellow wire connects to the positive, could that black box be connected to the negative one and the ground be connected to another peice?
Hey Matt, I have the day lighters and hooked them up by following the video here. They worked then I unplugged where the wires plug into the switch to the button. Plugged them back right and they quit??
I have a dodge ram 1500 2008, and it did not come with fog lights and want to install them. Do you have a video that shows how to do it in a ram 2008? thanks
Sounds like a silly question but at 8:30 you attach the wiring to those extra connections on the battery terminal connector. My connector doesn't have those so is there another way of installing? Or is it just a case of having to replace the battery terminal connectors to ones with those extra bolts for accessories? Hope that made some degree of sense
simplified, straight to the point, no additional time waisting talk..good video.

Straight forward, with good camera angles. No extra shilling bs. A little bit of humor thrown in. Thumbs up.

Thanks! The only video on RUclips that shows someone how to wire up an aftermarket light. Very helpful. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great video. Definitely easier to understand than reading how to wire.
Hello: You look, talk, and act like Mr. Rogers. No Offense. He was a great guy.
It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood
@Busted Cat it's not even a comeback
Awesome video, all the other videos were explained poorly, confusing, or made it look complicated. But yours made it seem like the average person can do it easily in an hour or two.

This video was done very well. You made the esoteric easy. Definitely a fan here.

Thank you! I purchased some kc lights and they did not come with instructions this video is going to save me a ton of time! 🙏 🙏 🙏
Damn this was the frsit video i ever watched over a year ago when i got my frist jeep. Still watching and still loving the videos man…
I am really happy there is someone who made a video of thos matter! Thank u so much you made my nervousness go away
6"ROUND CHROME HOUSING YELLOW FOG LIGHT/OFFROAD SUPER 4X4 GUARD is WORK LAMP+SWITCH are these the same method I have to follow
sweet, thanks for watching!
Matt you are such a nut in a nonchalant way, i love your videos keep it up!!!
bleepinjeep Haha, exactly what i was getting at there haha but that works too! and in all honesty i hooked up my led light bar on my Cherokee today and i just bypassed the relay and used a wire with a fuse on it and it works amazingly
Awesome! I just got my first pair of spot lights for my KL Cherokee Trailhawk and I'm really excited to get them wired in.

thanks Bought a front bar and 3 KC 151 6 inch lights looking forward to mounting every thing up when the Bar arrives in two days
Gotta love old KC's there like angle halos on the font of what ever you put them on!! 😇
Great vid, straight to the point tutorial! No wasted time, and thanks for actually showing how to do everything on camera. Thanks for the help!
Thanks so much for posting this vid. You made it look so easy. I followed your install instructions step by step. Took me an hour!

Thx man. This will help me wire Hellas 700ff onto my Volvo semi truck.
Thanks for such a comprehensive video! I'm new to adding mods(just finished CAI) to my 'Mall-Rated' JKU; this will def help me change that status!!
You explained this install and made it so easy that it took me less time to install than it took you to show how o the video. Kazoo”s to you .

Enjoyed the video getting my fog lights Friday
Hi, Thanks a lot for the video, quite informative indeed.

When you used your meter to check your ground we’re you checking resistance?
Perfect, thanks for the always quirky but always super-useful videos! I'll be wiring those same ones into my YJ this weekend.
can you buy 2 sets of these lights and wire them the same? put the power wire right on the top of the other one that connects to the battery?
Will you make a video (or if you already have one) were you change the rough country harness to a custom switch?
so, if I want the fogs to operate independently of high/low beams, I run the white to the positive battery terminal?
What size are your lights in the video? Appear to be 6" but cant tell for sure. I have the same bumper set up and 5" are way too small.
I wired a 50 inch led light bar worked great but after a few minutes the wireing harnes would melt any help??
Thanks for a great video! Going to tackle some KC Hilites for my JK!
Can you wire these up so they turn on with your high beams? It that what the white wire was for?
well no, you want a 12 volt relay probably 40 amps. These are pretty common, google "KC HiLites 12 Volt 40 Amp Lamp Relay". but like I said you can pull them off a jeep in the junkyard if you dont want to pay $6 plus shipping.
Love your vids and none of that boring stuff!!!
Taking the anxiety out of my life! You are awesome.
ive wired my 08 f150 with spyder halos myself, and was successful. But for any of these offroad lights, would i just need the battery as a source of power. i would only need to wire it into the headlights if i wanted the low beam and high beams correct? sorry if i sound naive, im only 16.

Check out my relay video!
great and informative video matt. but I was watching the 42 inch led light bar video and I was wondering how to run the wires to the roof lights? I have 4 kc hi-lites that ive mounted and im trying to figure out how to get the wires through the roof? maybe a video on that unless you have one already and I cant find it...... thanks for the help. I have a 93 xj by the way
do I drill a hole through the roof?
so is it okay to have the exposed wires in the engine compartment or should i get some wire tubing to protect them?
thanks for the vids,
Tim
Tim Sharky I guess that depends on where its routed... although wire loom is a good upgrade.
it's ok if I have my winch hooked up to my battery terminal along with my kc lights right?
Hi my name is sean and I bought some off roading lights. But they didnt come with wiring where do u suggest that I gwt it?
Thanks for the video. Just curious though, if you are using an on/off toggle switch, what is the purpose of an additional relay?
James Harper ruclips.net/video/49I9YAn1oQg/видео.html
it's so you don't run your main power through the cabin. the switch runs on a lower amperage than the lights circuit.
Nice and clear. I'd like to put fog lights in the empty fog light bays on my '08 Patriot North (5spd manual) can you post or direct me to one? Nice channel.
Great video. Thank you for your "to the point " instructions.
Mucho thanks for the vid. Santa brought new fog lights/light bar for my TJ and your explanation/direction is perfect!
Nice video. Simple and informative. Thanks. You answered the questions I had with the grounding.
hey nice work! can u make a video on how to install the rocker switches for the jeeps??
Is it ok if these lights get wet, say your wading through water and the relay and lights get submerged.

What settings did you have your multimeter on when testing for the ground and what measurement were you looking for? Thanks
Ohms i reckon (resistance)
Could you mount the black thing that is next to the ground wire to the negative battery terminal? I want to do this but I have nothing like what looks like yours. For instance, the yellow wire connects to the positive, could that black box be connected to the negative one and the ground be connected to another peice?
Hey Matt, I have the day lighters and hooked them up by following the video here. They worked then I unplugged where the wires plug into the switch to the button. Plugged them back right and they quit??
Check fuse
Simple and to the point!! Awesome! Thanks!!
I have a dodge ram 1500 2008, and it did not come with fog lights and want to install them. Do you have a video that shows how to do it in a ram 2008?
thanks
If you attach your hi/low beam white wire to your battery instead the lights will stay on hi-beams whenever theyre on, right?
Do i need a relay and new wiring to each light around my car ?!
Sounds like a silly question but at 8:30 you attach the wiring to those extra connections on the battery terminal connector. My connector doesn't have those so is there another way of installing? Or is it just a case of having to replace the battery terminal connectors to ones with those extra bolts for accessories? Hope that made some degree of sense
attach them any way you can... there has to be some kind of bolt on your battery terminal that you could put a ring terminal on.
So, harbor freight sells 100w lights that only include a fuse but no relay for one set of 2 lights. is this a good idea?
