- I love poetry but I’m very impatient and sometimes I don’t give the words enough time to settle and re-shape themselves before moving on.
(music has the advantage of melody to keep you there, allowing the words to become familiar and find new meaning, or morph their meaning, over and over)
Turning these poems into songs has been a really lovely way of doing that. It’s particularly comforting to spend time in Mary Oliver’s world.
I recorded this one in the Meduse Magiq rehearsal space in Amsterdam and André Leo mixed it for me in Berlin.
He also took this photo in Berlin. x

(Also, I don't seem to be so good with the uplifting songs but I really do love uplifting poems. This seems to be a good meeting place for the many moods of a human. Sending love and love and love.)
WHEN I AM AMONG THE TREES
Mary Oliver
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.
This song needed to be in a Vikings Episode!
Beautiful, love the atmosphere :)
Fantastic, not that I expected anything else, I've been a fan ever since Keenan mentioned you oh his facebook. I love the track you did on Constalatia as well. Hope to see you live some day soon.
