Briggs has an issue with there head bolts working loose. I tighten mine down every start of the season and always find at least one that is loose. Had on a motor that had every bolt loose on another machine, so check the bolts before condemning the head gasket, though if it goes for to long it will eat the head gasket.
I've got one like that, a non running gimmie, after a little work the old thing just runs and runs, I wire the back chute open and carry a stick to unclog it if needed. No muffler, the threads were stripped in the block that hold the muffler on. It's actually one of my favorite mowers. I even broke down and bought a new air cleaner filter for it.
Nothing wrong with that man. Just means it has character!
Use scotch bright to clean surfaces ... My pressure washer ran fine it's about 30 years old..never had a problem until one day it kept shutting off and loss of power . thought it was bad gas..so it was running low anyway..I refilled the tank it started and ran fine.. About 10 minutes later it shuts down again and wouldn't start..while I was pulling the pull start I kept hearing air escaping from around the head..I tightened the head bolts 3 of them were loose so tightened all..it started and has ran well ever since..Cheers 🍻🍻🍻
Rodney Brand yup scotch brite works well for a lot of stuff. I’ll have to pilfer some from work lol
learning something new every day
A good video, thanks for posting.
About when did they make these ..
BTW, thx for the carburetor link .. got it.. put it in .. primed it .. started first pull and runs like new.
This particular one is a 98 I believe. Tecumseh went under in the early 2000’s
Very uncommon for those type of gaskets to go bad
I would say that the gasket needs changing, have you had lost compression?
Tristan Heckler kind of someone heard air in the last vid
Do you have a video for a Briggs and stratton 7.75hp head gasket Replacement or would this be about the same
Same process. You will need the torque spec and may need to step up the torque to the final value like I did in this video.
I don’t have a vid up of that particular engine though.
You should Definitely do a video sometime when you get 1 You're my favorite guy on here to watch
You wouldn't happen to know the torque specs on the head bolts would you?
I’ll have a look in my manuals and it’ll be in the follow up vid I do on this one
Looked at my manual. Start at 50 inlbs go up at increments of 50 to no more than 220 inlbs
Hank's Small Engine Repair ahh ok thanks!
