I learnt a lot from this video and all the others you have done. Thank you very much for sharing your trade secrets on how to paint better and smarter. Regards John Tassie
Very helpful. I’m about to paint our extension and I was about to go up and down a step ladder with a brush to paint the cornices first. Never thought it could be done last like this technique
Great videos! Do you ever spray and backroll? That is how I go about something like that. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos. I have found yours helpful!
+Seth Doran I do spray and back roll ceilings. Every job is different, with new plaster board I prefer to roll first coat so the sealer is forced in to the flushing joints.
Fantastic educational videos! I notice that you are using a special frame for your roller, I never seen this type in any specialty shops here in Australia. Would you be so kind to advice me where to get it from?
For ceilings I use either 15 or 18 mm nap and walls generally 15mm and I use lambs wool sleeves most of the time. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
I use a weenie roller to apply paint on wood surfaces, then brush them out with the proper paint brush. Though, for sealer / primer, I see nothing wrong with this step in your video. I think I'll try it. Thanks.
Nice method but i use a Staalmeester 140mm wall brush (which has a very thick 40mm stock and holds a lot of paint) on a pole and it's even quicker , plus it can get the corners.
Yes that is correct, because first coat soaks in a bit the rolling doesn't look so noticeable and a brush finish looks so much better. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
hey mate when you roll your ceilings the way you do (blocks at a time) do you let half the ceiling dry first before starting the next half? or is the paint still wet?
+Gr33ny Hopefully the paint is still wet, generally ceilings are painted with flat paint so if the paint does dry the overlap mark shouldn't stand out. Don't forget to, like, subscribe and share this video, Thanks
Hi mate, when painting plasterglass cornice (not gyprock) do you use sealer binder and leave for 24 hours like solid plaster walls, or can you use an oil based primer sealer undercoat and paint in 2 hours? Thank you
If you use a oil based primer make sure you thin it down so it soaks in as you may know sealer binder is very thin and soaks in. If you can wait the extra time I would use the sealer binder but if in a hurry then thin the oil based primer. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
+darkvader47 I had to check what nap size it was as I have been using them for years, the nap is 14 mm. I have found that they are the best due to not leaving too much orange peel.
@@howtopaintinfo Cheers really appreciate all your painting tips on here. I can tell you're an old school Aussie tradie who really knows what he's doing and very good at teaching your craft 👍
Firstly there is a cornice or molding at the top so no need for tape etc and I think according to the plaster board manufacture they have used enough fixing points. Its the glue that holds the board in place. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
Far easier to use a striking brush to cut all the ceiling edges and walls.....sliding the roller genuinely is ridiculous..and will get you laughed off site.
Well look like nice expensive home and by hand it gonna take a long time and its gonna be poor quality, paint sprayers u can get starting 300 bucks, its gonna take this guy a month to paint this home
Bought a low end Graco sprayer for my house and it cost me 2500 Aud. 300 will buy Chinese throw away junk, with a similar spray quality. 300 dollars, yeah good onya mate 😂
Not everyone is painting a new home. If your walls are already done who’s going to overspray the s##t out of it. Not to mention the runs if you’re a DIYer or the extra paint it uses. Don’t get me wrong I love paint guns. In an out super fast, great coverage.. But sometimes it’s not the way to go!!

Very helpful. I’m about to paint our extension and I was about to go up and down a step ladder with a brush to paint the cornices first. Never thought it could be done last like this technique
only works for first coats etc, final coat is better if brushed.

I'm painting a really old room, I dont know if any videos youve made can help me but I'm watching anyway
Old rooms need lots of filling, sanding and caulking.

It should be available at most paint shops, not hardware's.

How can I get this rollers sir
It's a lambs wool roller and most paint shops should stock them.

Than you for this video. Can I please confirm you only use the roller to cut in and paint the cornices first coat only. Second coat is with a brush?
Yes that is correct, because first coat soaks in a bit the rolling doesn't look so noticeable and a brush finish looks so much better.

Is that a 22 nap roller and is that a nap you normally use?
+darkvader47 I had to check what nap size it was as I have been using them for years, the nap is 14 mm. I have found that they are the best due to not leaving too much orange peel.
Can you do this with first and final coat too?
I would suggest you brush final coats.

Neat. Looks like a pretty long nap on that roller?
It would have been between 15 & 18 mm nap.

What are the dots and lines for
The dots are where nail holes have been flushed over and the lines are where the sheets have been joined.

Will this method work if the cornice has a pattern (so the surface is uneven)?
No, the cornice needs to be smooth for this to work.

How come the drywall isn't taped and mudded along the top of wall? Also only one screw in the feild of the board, Iv never seen that done, wild

What size nap half inch???
I can't remember exactly but I would normally use a nap size of about 15 mm so your half inch is close.

You are missing the point, not everyone can afford to do that. Sure every professionals should have a sprayer but most home owners don't.
Bought a low end Graco sprayer for my house and it cost me 2500 Aud. 300 will buy Chinese throw away junk, with a similar spray quality. 300 dollars, yeah good onya mate 😂
It 21 century. We have paint sprayers, that's how they did it 500 years ago
Not everyone has a paint sprayer and the average home owner isn't going to buy one just to paint one room.
