Nice restoration of a plow. This is the first 710 I have ever seen work. Here in Western Canada most of the IH plows with automatic bottoms were the 770s. They are a drawbar plow like the 800 only they are the smaller version (4 to 8 bottoms I believe) and the heavier 800 is 8 or more bottoms. These are more popular because the 3 point hitch didn't catch on as quickly here as the States. Here a 66 series tractor with a 3 point hitch is rare and there more 86's without the 3 point than with it too. Our 770 works great. The automatic trip bottoms are the real deal especially when you have rocks.

Beautiful plow!! Up in my neck of the woods(southern MN) a 3588 would barely handle a 5 bottom. We usually figure a minimum of 30-36 drawbar HP per bottom.

@bradyboy1952 I think he usually uses two tractors to lift up on the plow on each end and lift it up so he can drive out from under it.

Matt, when Bill was talking about loading/unloading the plow from the lo-boy, I didn't quit catch what equipment he needs at plowdays. Could you explain, been a long time since I've lived in NC, I lost my ear for the accent. Thanks! BK

I think our 1066 would have a hard time pull in that brute...wouldn't even hook to it....very nice plow....looks great

I think in good soil you'll pull 7 bottoms with your 1066. We have the trailing type 770 plow which is very similar only it hooks to the drawbar and not a 3 point hitch. It's a 6 bottom and our 1066 pulls it well and we have very tough pulling soil. We know 2 farmers that have easier pulling soil and they have 6 bottom IH 770 plows identical to ours. One used to pull his with a JD 4020 and the other with an 806. The 1066 is way more tractor for sure.

In good sandy loam a IHC 1066 WOULD have no problem heavy clay/gumbo soils not so much..
