Fast-moving, human-caused Oregon wildfire grows to 10K acres, zero containment

  • Following high winds, high temperatures, and low relative humidity yesterday, the Larch Creek Fire jumped across Highway 197 and continued its fast-moving growth to the east, expanding to over 10,000 acres overnight and into Thursday morning, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry and the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
    By Thursday afternoon, the fire was still 0 percent contained and 700 homes were evacuated.

    An open fire card requirement would be a great way to educate people on how to have a safe fire. Just an online course to educate and receive a card. Plus it would give rangers an opening to approach anyone with a fire to check if they have a card and safety is being followed.

    There are lots of people who are amazingly careless when it comes to starting fires. I hope they get this under control without any loss of life.

      They'll never tell you. Humans cause it, what was the method? Someone spotted a homeless guy here with a gas can and a lighter. Hmmm, what was he up to? He got arrested, we got lucky.
