  • Matty and Mary take us on guided tour of West Cork in Ireland where the sea is below and the mountains are above!
They travel from Bantry on the Friday Market Day to the makers of Milleens Cheese. They then head to Garnish Island to check out the special gardens. Using Irelands only Cable Car they then head to Jersey Island for a well deserved picnic.

I moved here to West Cork in 2005. The things I love most about it are: the landscapes, the fresh food for sale in the markets and the shops, the friendly people who live here and who have come from all corners of the world - giving the place a nice cosmopolitan feel, the wild deer that live in the wilderness behind my house and visit me near my garden some evenings, the scenic roads - I just love the journeys from one town to another as it means passing so much beauty along the way. I guess I am truly blessed to live in heaven on earth.

I love Ireland and have lived there for Years . Love the folks in the West im particular for their warmth. I want to vist the South West this Summer .
However these Guys in west cork Salute a drink with the Word ''Cheers'' . I understood that in Ireland the main salute was ''Slainnte''
My Colombian Wife who now lives in Ireland Always salutes with the wod ''Slainnte'' Not complaining just putting it out there that The Cheers thing is an English form & in Ireland is ''Slainnte'' ihmo. As in Galway, Sligo & Donegal.

The only time I ever heard the word "Sláinte" said at a celebration was in Newcastle, County Down, as a birthday celebration in 2006.

I dig that they love olives and tomatoes, but was hoping to see more native Irish food. Nice little presentation though.

Thank you! No mention of the flora from yer man on Garinish Island either? Over 70yrs flourishing. Lots of those DO indeed grow elsewhere on the Beara peninsula too. No mention of the ferry service to it? All the shops, hotel and BnB's, park, where to get your souvenirs or send off your postcards? Ton of people producing Irish Fare from Glengarrif, Adrigole, Bere Island, Garnish, Cahermore, Allihies, Eyeries, Urhan, Ardgroom etc. Tons of seafood never got a snifter. Paddy since passed away RIP.

Also have Cork ancestors (Dad's side). Lived through the hippie era with an American County Munster friend. Those hippie crash pads in NYC. Never inhaled, though.
