  • Caleb Swanepoel could never have predicted that losing his right leg would only be the first step in an incredible new journey. The 21-year-old drama student refused to let the traumatic 2015 incident kill his love of the ocean and recently took up surfing. After winning the inaugural South African adaptive surfing championships he will now travel to the US to compete in the World Adaptive Surfing Championships with the national team.

Great to see, being young, great attitude, immediately going back in the ocean before like he said, before anxiety could set in, very smart and a controlling of your fears, wonderful story and maybe help other survivors, I'm an ocean guy, grew up literally next to the sea. It's a tremendous example your setting for all people, not just shark survivors. Your a good soul my friend, wish you the best.

If Caleb reads this, I am below knee amputee and would love to come try surfing with you. Was a.dream before I lost my leg because I also love the water mostly sailing tho.

I do not understand and will never understand the obsession of these people to be submerged in water as if they were aquatic animals. . If it happened to you once, it can happen twice because you are in the shark's environment. The invaders are us. Although on the other hand I admire his spirit and attitude, it would not be mine.
