Mike Dawes is an alien sent here to expand our concept of what is possible with 6 strings and 10 fingers! In my 64 years around the sun, I've had my mind blown a few times...Hendrix, Van Halen, Michael Hedges, Tommy Emmanuel....then along comes Mike...total alien, has to be...the tones/sounds are other worldly. I have to see this alien in person..

Wow. Such talent on both sides of the camera. Michael, your passion for music is so infectious. I have really come to love your channel and am so grateful for this community and some of the new (to me) artists that i've heard here. Artists like Dallas Green, Lisa Hannigan, Travis Meadows, Main Squeeze, man the list goes on and on. I've had a guitar for years and years but never took lessons and fell into the trap of learning some chords and Tabs, but never really understanding what I was doing. I learned how to play a guitar, but not how to play music. Music has always been at the center of my soul. Growing up on bands like Yes, Pink Floyd, Tool, Sublime, Queen, I feel like I hear music well, but I'm ready to make my own sound. You have inspired me to learn, as you say, why I love something. I'm sold, guitar Gate here I come. I'm not even sure if this is the place to suggest reactions, but when you talk about how Mike Dawes has the music within him, I think about Michael Hedges. Incredible creativity, but also a true passion for creating your own unique sound. Heres a video of Micheal Hedges covering While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Its simple, and I love it. I'd love to have you help me understand why its so damn cool. Anyway, Thank you for sharing your skill, your time, and mostly, your passion.

I think the most important thing to realize about Mike is he is only 32 years old. Guys like him and Joe Robinson are grabbing the baton from Tommy and making something that is their own. In the next 30 years there is nothing stopping him from being the next Tommy Emmanuel. Not only is he a great guitarist, but he has the humble personality and approachability that elevate him above just being a "guitar player". Great reaction video, and a great insight into an amazing player.

I don' t know if it is already mentioned here, but in one of his very fine tutorial courses Mike explains his special Instrument ... it is built by the German Luthier Andreas Cuntz. It has a reinforced top as it serves as kind of percussion instrument with an additional scratch pad near the cutaway. This guitar has 4 pickups, I think one piezo an one microfon which can be mixed. The magnetic pickup in the soundhole he uses to overdub some effects like destortion during a loop. As the top of the guitar is thicker he has an additional pickup near the point under his right hand where he imitates kind of snare ... behind the headstock there can be additional banjolike tuners for special effects ...
    great artist and great teacher

It had been glued together following a break after dropping it, and was drying. As he looked at the fretboard he had a kind of epiphany about how all the notes related, that changed his approach to the instrument in a profound way--obviously. He is amazing...and seems really nice, too.

It’s a shame he missed out on the whole RUclips thing because he definitely would have stood out, much like Mike has. Mike is clearly heavily influenced by him. Eric’s book, released just before he died, the ‘Acoustic Guitar Bible’, is the best guitar tuition book ever printed (for moderate to advanced players). For this tune I find it easier for me if I count it in 5/8 and feel the groove as: "ONE-two, ONE-two-three." instead of trying to count all the way to 5 each time around. Seems like 5 (or any odd time signature for that matter) can feel a couple of different ways depending on the riff. It may be just the way my brain works, but I tend to feel the accents first and then extrapolate the time signature second. Of course, that means I am atrocious at poly-rhythms. They often confound me. I understand them, but feeling them has escaped me thus far.

I don't know how to put a suggestion on to your website but I love this clip of two (yes two) of Chet Atkins CGP's playing together, namely Tommy Emmanuel and John Knowles. The emotion poured into this song (How deep is your Love) is incredible. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/MHeHypLZm_c/видео.html. A bonus, John Knowles playing Jerry Reed's "Blue Finger" showing off his incredible skills solo: ruclips.net/video/bx7k_Z2cfHw/видео.html

I just find it annoying when players are thumping and smacking their instrument. Just can't get into it.
