- In 1996, a piece of the Arthur Baker's 5th Dimension remix of Spaceman was used in a Levi's commercial in the UK and created ridiculous hype. When the song was commercially released a lot of people were disappointed there was no version quite like they imagined.
An assistant on Capital FM (London) called Marcus 'Mixmaster' McAdam chopped together parts from the various Arthur Baker mixes available to create the version everyone was hoping for. This is a recording I have on an old cassette tape of it being played on Kiss FM.
Sorry for the poor quality.
No idea why this song has stuck in my head for over 20 years
Your not alone 😂
@@kenzilla1323 because we're spacemen
@@WizardBarry 😂 you dammm right we are . He was definitely before his time .

surely its not the only one ???
They pulled the ultimate bait n switch, and it worked really really well.
Lol I remember me and my mates were disappointed when the actual song came out after the Levis ad.. it wasn’t a bad song but We were kids and didn’t want the slowdown
The Boy with the X ray eyes was a amazing album. It had no hype here in the US.
This is perfection right here. Intergalactic Christ, indeed
Levi advert of course I wanted that...then that monstrosity got released instead and I was incensed. This is magnificent and should have been released as the single.
How many years has it been? I’ve been waiting for this for so long. God that’s some good catharsis mate, thank you.
It’s a pleasure! Sometimes I had felt like I was the only person that remembered, so it’s been great hearing from others who wanted the same
@@enzidj Thank you for proving I'm not mad. Used to dance to this version in the clubs (or a very very similar version) and not so long ago I had a disagreement with my boyfriend because he genuinely couldn't recall that there was even a up-tempo clubby version. Now I can prove it to him :)
You Sir are a genius! A data archaelogist that society needs! :)
Thank you 😄 It took a while to locate the creator’s name. I’m yet to track him down personally though…
What's that? "Sorry for the low quality"? I think you mean, "You're welcome for the Low Fidelity."
Ha! Well it's good for the nostalgia at least
Word.
Thanks enzi I listen to this version near every day on the field.
I’ve tried recreating it myself, but I’m missing a couple of pieces. If I find them I’ll finish it and put that online
yes that is THE ONE!!!!
WOW!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR THSI!
Hi there, yes Spaceman (Levi Strauss Extended Advert Mix) is not nearly as good as this remix! Superb upload. Please do let me know if you ever find a better quality version. I'll be hunting for it too!
Yes let me know also! I've actually tried replicating it. But there's a couple of parts he's used that I cannot locate
The high octane version Babylon Zoo - Spaceman (Remix) 7m 21s is really good

@@trevorcarr3418 I’m using those parts thanks mate. A couple of other versions in there as well. Just a couple of missing pieces still!
The best version

Sounded like Pulp Fiction was the next one coming in

YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Where to find exactly this mix of spaceman without talking this man in background. If know somebody let me show .
thanks! I remember this one
this whole narrative that "everyone thought the slow-down was crap" has been largely fabricated by the music industry and record labels. I was around in 1996 and a lot of people liked it. it stayed at number 1 for like 5 weeks. people were still buying it in droves when they'd heard it and knew full well what they were getting. you never hear it on the radio so I think there is some legal rights dispute and people have tried to tarnish the original creators as "punishment" of some kind. a bit like with the film waterworld -- a very entertaining film but you often hear "experts" trying to say it was a flop and no one liked it.
A lot of people did like the original version. But the Arthur Baker mix was liked as well and is what brought Babylon Zoo to most people’s attention. It’s not about hating on anything
@@enzidj originally I recall a lot of peddling that Babylon zoo were a crap band and the song was completely crap - "annoying" like Aqua's Barbie Girl... Even the Levi ad was "annoying" ... This didn't gain much traction over time however as like I said, a lot of people did in fact like it and wondered why it was rarely, if ever, played on the radio/music channels. I maintain There has definitely been strong attempts to tarnish this band and song.
@@jimmydigital as you should man 🙂 Anyone who has time to criticise aren’t worth the bother.
I’ve got to say though, I don’t know where you were living, but my way the original got caned!
@@enzidj sure. that's why it was number 1 for 5 weeks. repeat a lie so many times I guess people start believing it.
@@slowedndreverb it also doesn’t make sense that no one liked it yet it stayed at #1 for 5 weeks.
It’s probably due to the legal rights. Why you never hear it on the radio
Can I just say that the Levis planet ad didn't sound quite as good as the one being played here? it didn't have the continuous phat toms like this one!
On the *official* animal army 12" there is the Capital mix and the Kiss mix, the former being an exact recreation of the ad version. got it here: ruclips.net/video/hsYHV0_4-sY/видео.html
Pulp Fiction, Alex Reece at the very end there 🌴
epic
Sounds like tv movie
Now in 2024 exist movie Spaceman and i dont have a clew why they didnt used this track in the movie.
I know a really spaceman 🎵🎵⬆️⬆️
I PERSONALLY ALWAYS THOUGHT THE LEVI AD VERSION AND WHAT WAS ON THE SINGLE RUINED THIS TRACK IMO..
Sick remix! Hated the crappy lyrics version, was lame
This was on the CD single this is just a mash up of the different versions.

I wanted the full version not 5 seconds of it as in intro. 25 years later a wrong has been righted 😅
Haha yea the real version was utter shite
This is the 4 minute 27 seconds one that I have.
Babylon Zoo - Spaceman (Levi Strauss Extended Advert Mix) (96').
Can you send me it? 🙂
@@enzidj I'm new to this stuff. I don't know how to. I youtubed it. I searched for Spaceman remixes on youtube and found this one. When you type Babylon Zoo - Spaceman (Levi Strauss Extended Advert Mix), it will appear at the top, or if you have youtube music, it is there too. I hope that this helps. Or tell me how to send it to you. 🙃
@@idrinkbinjuice66 Oh yes I know that one. I don't think that has been made by the same person. Just used lots of the same parts of Arthur Baker's mixes plus more.
@@enzidj My one is the closest that I found. There's another version of it with more bass and less singing, but I can't find the actual advert one. I wish that they would release it. I sometimes think that there is something wrong with these people that, they cannot see how popular the advert version is and that WE want it released. 😒
