    what a lot of people have been asking is what Saurfang and Varian have been doing there. I was asking the same thing, but soon realised they are the only 2 characters that died while holding the sword.

      It's also not literal them. Just as it is not Varian showing up in Legion and teleporting Anduin back to Stormwind for some talk.
      And it's actually nice to keep it mystical. Not everything should be explained perfectly like "that's simply the scientific ability of that sword". It's the sword, Anduin himself, the light, his inner struggle, his memories, his courage, all of this together.
      They even show, that they aren not 'physically' there, because they just lay there hands on anduins, then vanish befor Anduin himself is pulling it apart.

    They did right by this one up until they got to Arthas. His sendoff was a very hollow and empty one for me. He was such an important character in the story of WoW. Everything that manipulated him started with the Jailer and the Shadowlands. Everything he did as a corrupted servant of death and all the long lasting effects it had on so many people started there. He deserved a better sendoff than that.

      I agree. The second half was just Sylvanas scolding Arthas. Jaina and Uther had nothing to say. This just indicates that those whom say Sylvanas is getting all the attention might be right about it.
      It just doesn't seem right Jaina and Uther had nothing to say. Not to me, anyhow.

      @Tylerbolical he deserved a better because he was one of the major faces that helped Warcraft and World of Warcraft. He is one of the most loved characters in the entire series. It doesn't matter what you think the fact is that his popularity, even after all this time, is still extremely high. He deserved better.

    Huge reaction to seeing The Dusted One, Varian then barely a flicker when High Overlord Saurfang shows up. SMH my head damn Alliance peoples :D
    I watched this yesterday morning on the train into work and was NOT expecting to have people cutting onions in my carriage, especially as I was the only one in there. Aside from quibbles with the Sylvanas monologue, it was very good. Very, very good.

      NOT BARELY A FLICKER AT ALL WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT???
      you can see it in my eyes I'm like "wait is that...???" SMH making me out to be an Alliance loyalist. Yeah the Sylvanas monologue was a bit..... weird. Would have been WAY more touching if it came from Jaina. Considering that was her lover right there. And she's just gotten Anduin back, the only man left that she cares about. Way more emotion could have came from her. Not Sylvanas being like "aw man i hated ya, now youre dead for real, i feel kinda bad about it "

    It was emotional seeing Varian. It was sad when Gul’dan killed him in Legion 😭 I was shocked when they killed him off! But it was satisfying when Illidan did the same to Gul’dan 😉 Arthas will not be forgotten! He did nothing wrong! He was dominated like Aduin was 😩 Before Frostmourne, while purging Stratholme, he was only doing what was right! It had to be done, because it would have been lost anyway and the situation at hand would have been much worse. Although got to admit, it was a cunning plan by the Jailer.

      @@RageDarlingTV But it wasn't his soul. It was just a remnant of his will as the Lich King. Just the last flicker of his existence. She had already made her peace with Arthas earlier in the expansion and even before that. Uther made his peace with what Arthas had become earlier in the expansion as well.
      It really seems like people are stretching just to find something not to like in this amazing cinematic. For it only being like 2.5-3 minutes long. They got so much done.

    I'm glad the cinematic moved you.
    Personally, as a lore nerd, I've massive issues with this one. Why did Jaina not say anything to Arthas? They were the loves of each others lives. Uther says little. Sylvanas takes up most of it, just talking. But the biggest one is Varian being there. It is touching, yes. But Gul'dan killed Varian with fel energy. Fel energy destroys the soul. By their own lore he should not be there. UNLESS. Shalamayne somehow can protect your soul from such things. Though there is no lore to back that up.
    Despite all that. The music is good, the voice acting is great. Everything is great, its just that the story is all sorts of wrong.
    As a former wow/alliance player. Remember Theramore, Remember Teldrassil, and For the Alliance.

    • @bdenneysr85
      @bdenneysr85 2 года назад

      I would imagine that this will be explained more in game (or maybe it won't), but they've been in the Shadowlands long enough to know what a fully intact soul should look like. They instantly knew that what was left was Arthas' will, but not really him. I think had it been a more complete soul or even 1/2 a soul (see Uther/Sylvanas) she would have had more to say.
      As for Varian and Saurfang. DID NO ONE WATCH THE 7.2 IN-GAME CINAMATIC!?!? Anduin picks up Shalamayne has a vision and a short convo with Varian and the blade responds. This time it was both Varian and Saurfang because they were the last two people besides Anduin to wield the blade in combat. How can you say there is no lore to back that up when they made A WHOLE DAMN PRE-RENDERED IN-GAME CUT SCENE?!?!
      You are literally giving lore nerds a bad name. Do like the bare minimum of research. I didn't even play Legion and I was able to find that cut scene in one YT search.

    • @telegrill
      @telegrill 2 года назад

      If you take a closer look at Shalaymane after both souls fade out, two light-glowing shades do get into each blade, rather than the usual red and blue they had when Varian used to wield them. In fact, their color now is too similar to both of their souls' colors.
      It is clear now that both Varian's and Saurfang's souls were able to, somehow, remain inside the blades, given the fact that they both died while holding them. That would explain in some way why Varian was able to show up on that Legion cinematic when Anduin held it up after it was recovered and now again with Saurfang. Blizzard never stated whether their souls were forever lost; either Saurfang's, which was supposed to travel into The Maw, or Varian's, since it was consumed by the fel. So yes, it does make perfect sense lore-wise. They just need to explain now how their souls or wills were able to stay in the given weapons.

    • @CrystalPrelude
      @CrystalPrelude 2 года назад

      @@telegrill There we go. An actual lore response.
      That was a good catch. I had to go back and look. You are right. So, clearly, there is more to the blade than the current lore gives. This is backed up by the vision Anduin had back in Legion upon touching the sword.
      Considering the sword's first appearance in the comics, and how the sword rejoined itself when Varian's aspects were joined, it does stand to reason either the sword had some ability to do with the soul. Question is, was it before or after Varian's rejoining?
      It also explains why the Jailer had the sword "enhanced" instead of simply creating a new Frostmourne, the ability to store/protect souls was already there.
      I wonder if this was just lore that fell into place, or was it planned? Either would be fine to me.
      The issue I have is them saying the Jailer was behind it all from the beginning. When we all know that is bullshit.

    I love your reaction, cause that's how I reacted too. I loved seeing Varian come back and be able to help his son at one of the most crucial moments of his life. Saurfang being there felt a bit weird but I understood it. I hate that Varian was taken away from us in Burning Legion as one of the first casualties of the demons, but in the end that seemed to be the older Wrynn generation curse. Get killed and smote by demons, but at least we can rest easy knowing Varian's spirit is out there, looking over his son and trying to help when he's needed

    It's so refreshing to see someone else (like me) who actually likes poor Anduin. He seems to get so much unfair hate from the fandom due to him not being a 'roided out, beer-swilling warmonger. Heaven forbid a male character want peace or display kindess or emotions other than 'me smash, you die'. And yeah...Varian and Saurfang show up *cue tears* on my end as well. Since Anduin got mind-controlled I've been crossing my fingers that Varian would be the one to show up at some point this expansion to save him and give him some closure. I've had many an argument on the forums over many a mean-spirited poster gloating that 'Varian's soul was destroyed since Gul'dan killed him with fel'...even though his spirit appearing to Anduin when he first picked up Shalamayne would seem to logically contradict that claim. No writer or dev has *ever* said that Varian's soul was destroyed...just that he was killed. Fel *does* destroy souls IF they're chucked into a soul engine and used as fuel...which Varian wasn't. Also...in an expansion rife with retcons, if they''ve decided both Saurfang and Varian's souls are intact, I'd say the writers have the ultimate say (and on this account, I'm glad).

      @@RageDarlingTV I was upset that Sylvanas had the last word, in my opinion she was selfish and committed so many crimes and Arthas was being controlled when he did horrible things and the whole reason he took up the helm and sword anyway was to save his people, not be control them or with the purpose of making an undead army. Jaina has been seeking closure from Arthas for sooo many expansions especially with her blaming herself for his downfall in bfa, and Uther didnt say anything much either? After everything he has been through and the hurt and betrayal he felt from Arthas? Probably one of the biggest storylines and its just reduced to a wisp that falls apart. I am happy about everything that has happened with Anduin though, and I think its fitting he is the one who saved Arthas.
