Although we had several complaints about this product, The Blind Life (RUclips channel) recently reviewed this Amazon smart microwave that we plan to try when it is available. The reviews seem to be "love it or hate it". Here is the link: amzn.to/3dFXICw
In this video Mycael reviews the Magic Chef Talking microwave.
Transcript: Hi, this is Mycael, and today I will be showing you the Magic Chef talking microwave. Now inside the box - we're gonna, you come with the microwave and the user manual which looks intimidating because it's lots of pages. But really, there's only one page you need to pay attention to, and that is on page SIX, that's all the operating instructions. The rest of this is mostly for some pictures of the buttons and some tips for like how to defrost various things like chicken or fish. So it looks intimidating, but you really only have about one page to use. Colors - it comes, and this comes in white, black, or a stainless steel black combination. I have the white one for this video. And you will notice there's NO SCREEN on here of any kind, and that's because even though they say this is a talking microwave, the speaker here, all that means is it's going to speak all of these steps to you. It's not a talking microwave like you can use Google or Alexa or Siri to control it. It just speaks everything to you. So they have a three buttons across, four buttons down grid, and for the most part you're gonna stay on the top two rows. That's where our "cook" button is, our "start" and "stop" buttons, and the "up" and "down" is how you will add minutes or remove minutes when you're doing cook time. The bottom row is mostly if you care about the power level of like, "low", "medium", "high" or "defrost," that's how you can adjust that. The "clock" button, you can press to speak the time - "clock 6:06 pm" or if you hold it you can set the time. The button that says "attend," I don't see many users using this. What that is for, is if you're doing a recipe where maybe you need to stir the item, like maybe it's soup and it takes like five minutes to heat but you need to stir every minute. That's the only time you're really going to use this button. And "oven" or" timer" just changes it between being a microwave oven or being a kitchen timer. And then volume "up" and "down". This thing does get very very loud. I think I have it on "four" for this video and you can hear it quite loud. Other than that most of these buttons down here you're not going to use unless you're a real power user who's defrosting chicken and really using your microwave to the full potential. Your average user is just going to use this "cook" button and the "up" and "down" for the most part. So I will show you how you cook stuff in it, and then we'll discuss the populations that you might want this microwave for. So I have a cup of water here in the sink which we'll put in the microwave. And now we're going to press and HOLD this "cook" button. When you press it the first time it will tell you the amount of time remaining, but to set a cook time you have to hold it. So we're going to press and hold, "cook time not set," "set cook time minutes," and when it says "set cook time," I'm going to let go. I'm going to hit, "one minute" so now it says it has a one minute cook time. And now I will press START, "power level high one minute zero seconds microwave running." Okay, obviously I'm not gonna cook water for one minute so I will now stop it, "microwave halted zero minutes 50 seconds remaining." So it says I have 50 seconds left on it. That's where if you had forgotten something in the microwave you could press cook time "0 minutes 50 seconds" and it will tell you how long you have left so the populations you would want to use this for are someone who's blind or has really bad low vision who wants that full audio and is a power user because of course you get into well why wouldn't we just put "bump dots" on a standard microwave so you really have to be the person who's going to be a high techie high microwave user who's using the "popcorn" button and the "pizza" button and all this - using their microwave to the full potential, who's defrosting things, you know adjusting power levels to like cooking so to a low level and cooking longer it really takes that high techy techy user. So while I like the concept of this I would prefer a more standard microwave touchpad with like, "one two three four five" than the standard buttons, where I could do one minute start. Or I could see where if this was voice controlled like the Reminder Rosie is a little bit where I could tell it like, "hey microwave cook one minute."

I thought the idea of a talking microwave sounded cool but I think you're right, I would always want the regular number pad for the way I use my microwave.

My microwave has a one-minute quick start button so I would just need a tactile dot on it and could probably manage most things I would cook.

Was looking for a oven that don't have the stupid beep when food is done....

Is there a reason you don't want it to beep when the food is done? For this particular microwave designed for blind users, I think the sound is the selling point. I know we tested the volume and you could turn it down but I don't know if you can turn it completely off. The Blind Life channel demoed a new microwave that has an app so your phone tells you when the food is done.

@@DynamicSeq I want Gordon Ramsey to scream at me that my food is done. I also want a GPS with him chewing me out when I need redirected because I miss a turn, but that's just me :)
