Patrick almost completely transformed himself into whichever character he was playing. A remarkable actor
He was phenomenal as The military Commandant in the By Dawn's Early Light episode. Won an Emmy for that and can see why.
@@drlee2 Longshanks in Braveheart. The guy played some great villains.
This is unbelievable. I was deceived!!!
LoL excellent
Brasil
No wonder I can never quite visualize his face!
Totally agreed!
Two actors that were great friends and had great chemistry. Truly a delight to be witness to.
LEGENDS BOTH.
OOOPS!!You beat me to it!They were friends, for sure,
McGoohan also directed several episodes of the series!
@James Henderson ...but the ham spread. Before We Knew Him As check out two early films by him: Hell Drivers and The Quare Fellow. In fact you'll spot (hint, spy?) more than a few familiar faces in the first film Before We Knew Them As.
@James Henderson Those trucks drove real fast, I'll give you that. I half-expected the Keystone Cops in pursuit.
The conversations between these two, with their unique speech patterns, are absolutely priceless.
I adore the Peter-Patrick bromance that lasted almost 30 years. Patrick was the greatest asset to the show as actor/writer/director which Peter said more than once.
Patrick McGoohan had a very distinctive and unique accent. One of Hollywood's more underrated actors.
Totally agree, and he stole the show in Braveheart.
@@bryanpartington3260have you seen "the prisoner"
I believe they call it a transatlantic accent.
@@LightInside-id1fm Which, given he was born in Queens and heard his first voices in New York, makes perfect sense...
He was born in NY, grew up in Ireland, and moved to England, then back to America. He was full Atlantic.
When the world lost Mr. McGoohan and Mr. Falk we lost for a time two amazing gentlemen who were dear friends. It was readily apparent their talents were needed elsewhere. God speed!
Please explain the joke
I don't understand why the episode "Identify crisis" with Patrick McGoohan isn't ranked higher or talked more about. A truly brilliant episode
Mamaluke 64 - Actually, it's "Identity Crisis".
Identity Criss.
It kind of drags in spots and is a bit all over the place... but yeah a brilliant episode and a rare glimpse at Leslie Nielson going back to his serious leading man roots for a bit.
@@realenglishman580 Crisis!
It's one of the highest ranked episodes according to Columbo Weekly
PMG is just a legend. they don't have actors like this anymore. the rich voice. the dignified bearing. a true star.
I agree ☝️
Patrick McGoohan is always a privilege to see.
“Dignified bearing” is a perfect description.
"I wear a uniform, you wear a ... I suppose you can call that a uniform." Lol
always loved that line lol
Funny and deep, they just don’t make them this good anymore,,, brilliant acting!
Beast mode! Lol
Poor Columbo, hehe!
As much as I love Columbo, this episode featured a bad error in chemistry. DIAMONDS BURN! This was first demonstrated by Antoine LaVoisier in one of the most famous demonstrations in the history of chemistry.
One of Peter's closest friends, he ended up directing several episodes
Patrick was a prime guest star on Columbo. Played his characters with style, grace and some cheek too.
@AMT
Thanks
A Class act all the way. Sooo underrated.
Patrick was such a brilliant actor. A real gem in the history of Columbo.
The chemistry between Peter and Patrick is palpable. They are great onscreen together. One always trying to outwit the other.
Friends. Falk wanted McGoohan to play a fifth killer but he thought he was too old for the part.
"Then all you have is a load of unsubstantiated circumstantial poppycock." Patrick was one of the most versatile actors in the entire Columbo series. It's always a pleasure to watch him work.
Barbara Alexander , I remember a tv series called Scarecrow he starred in.
I would love to see more full epsodes of Patrick mc goolahan . A nd of the ladies thank you I love columbo. A fan for life
@@daniewilliams8428 I've seen all episodes several times!!!
"The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh," a limited series put on by Walt Disney about an 18th Century British vicar who put wrongs right while disguised in a Scarecrow costume. Sort of a cross among Robin Hood, Swamp Fox, and Zorro.
Come to think of it, if you count the animated anthropomorphic Robin Hood, Disney visited each of these stories.
😂😂
One of my favorite recurring actors on this wonderful show.
Amazing how these two wonderful actors can even change their ages from scene to scene. Fantastic
LOL, I don't know why, but I really love this line....
"...that's the tricky thing about burning questions, once their burned all you've got left is Ashes.....Ashes.. have you gone?..."
That's one of my favorites too. Always makes me laugh. 😆
@@andreawalker7138 I like the one where Mr. Prince is showing him the mechanics of the oven. He's behind Columbo, indicating to him the dials, and says: ". . . in you POP . . . " ; ) It's the voice inflection. There's also the earlier episode, where McGoohan says he plays "ma-johng . . . " Very -- expressive and articulate. Tu, 03/10/2020
@@AuroraFinesse I just watched that scene again, so fun! You can hear how much he wants to push Columbo in the oven.
Patrick McGoohan used the inflections of his voice so well; he could be menacing, dismissive, or comical.
The problem is that diamonds DO burn.
McGoohan's aristocratic Irish brogue against the transplanted New Yorkese of Peter Falk made such a fascinating counterpoint.
"You call that a lining?" BWAHAHAHAAAA!! McGoohan's laugh was so genuine, I have a feeling he hadn't heard the joke before taping.
I always felt that Patrick was one of the few actors who had real presence on the screen.
Define presence
I love how out of all of the returning actors he completely looked like a different person every time
@@londonbowcat1 Just watch the clip. You'll see the definition
@@londonbowcat1not only the source of the sound but the source in which echo comes, that’s presence.
Patrick," The Prisoner "...…in my heart for ever. Just as Peter Falk….
@AMTsounds interesting, for sure I will ! thanks for telling me !
My favorite line wasn't on here, but anytime I see an old picture of myself, I think "I was younger and more beautiful then" ~ and always in his voice.
McGoohan said that his first appearance on Columbo (episode: "By Dawn's Early Light", 1974) was probably his favourite American role. He directed five Columbo episodes (including three of the four in which he appeared), one of which he also wrote and two of which he also produced.
Patrick has to be one of the most underrated actors ever. NEVER 'overacted' and that is what made him so brilliant.
And he won two Emmy's for two of those 4 roles he played!
Wow I never knew that thank you
Interesting stuff.
Patrick McGoohan and Peter Falk, two incredible actors!
The prisoner series got me. It started at 1967. God it was so advanced for back then. Patrick owned it, he was so easy to watch him at work. Cheers
I found a bicycle pin that had the big wheel in front, small wheel in back (not sure if it was a penny-farthing), just like in the show. Of course I bought it and wore it.
@@HeronCoyote1234 very cool thanks. At work I started the be seeing you with the hand guestur . Then had to explain the series. Most were very impressed
@@troyfitzmaurice6834alan watt got me into it
Just love this show. Mcgoohan was a great actor. By dawns early light was the best episode he done imo.
No one projected that air of self - possessed superiority quite like Patrick Mcgoohan.
And his command of accents was terrific, as well.
Jack Cassidy ate this guy for lunch!
@@nicholasricco785 And then sold his bones to his widow. 😁
@@nicholasricco785 But can you imagine Jack Cassidy as Edward Longshanks? I don't think so.
What a way to put it :) Patrick's style is VERY unique. Jack and Patrick are like apples and oranges. Very different individuals, both great actors. Both are greatly responsible for what the show ended up being and how people think about it half a century later. True legend.
Both Mcgoohan and Jack Cassidy were Peter Falk's perfect foils as villains that is why they both made multiple appearances in Columbo
Jack Cassidy was really great also. Loved those episodes as well.
Patrick McGoohan is one of the best actors I have ever seen...
Absolutely!
I can still watch "By Dawn's Early Light" over and over again. Love the scene that played early on. Easier to be a slob than neat and clean. LOL
Miles I had a scene with him in that episode that ended up on the cutting room floor. I asked him if the American accent was difficult. He said no, it was easier than an English accent, being Irish
He actually says, "Sometimes it's harder to be a slob..."
Harder to be a slob
@@JenniferLions Right - the original poster has it backwards.
That is my favorite Columbo episode and even Peter Falk said it was one of his top 4 episodes of the entire series!
the funnel home one is great when he just walks away and the guy keeps talking "have you gone?"
a truely masterful character actor, he so embodies the character you're attention cannot help but be riveted on him.
That voice...that cultured growl. Intelligent and good-looking. He really was very gifted.
"By Dawns Early Light" is clearly the best episode of Columbo
Definitely top 5. Any old Port in the storm is also a great one.
@@Rodshark75 a matter of honor, old port, dawns early light, murder by the book, etude in black, a deadly state of mind, death lends a hand and murder under glass are my favorites.
@@Rodshark75 loved that episode. Great interplay between Pleasance and Falk. One of the few episodes where the culprit never really got irked by Colombo's questions but just accepted things with a hint of regret.
One of my favorites!
Nope. "Now you see him..." takes that title.
The best for me is McGoohan's nod to "The Prisoner" in the Columbo episode "Identity Crisis," when he says "Be Seeing You." You can almost feel he's going to wink... LOL
Yes I spotted that having just watched a marathon of The Prisoner.
Look how Mc Goohan easily can fill the whole enormous room by just walking into it.
Best colombo villian ever
He was pretty good on Columbo too
I think it's a tie between him and Robert Culp who was a murderer on Columbo 4 times!
@@asecretone spelling police you ever heard of type error
@@shane-irish yes. I was being sardonic
@@asecretone That's not how you spell moronic.
That episode where he plays the Colonel is some of the finest work McGoohan ever did and that's saying something!
I was waiting the whole time for his epic crackup over that “lining” joke - and there it was! Well done!
I didn't get that joke that was my fav mcgoohan episode too
@@SDSen You mean you don't understand the punchline?
@@NiceTryLaoChe yep
@@SDSen she was commenting about the quality of the inside of the coat and not his naked body. It's a joke about Jewish people being overly concerned about money and material things.
@Andrew Heller Nice explanation ... Oh, just one more thing ...
I love how Patrick McGoohan resembled Mr Steinmetz by the time he filmed Ashes to Ashes.
I wish they could have created a spin off series of mcgoohan's character either taking place before the Colombo events or after (beating the charges and resuming his intelligence ops
@@eric0380 He was definitely extraordinary. That ridiculous show Hardcastle, etc needed a great star like him.
(Trying to recall the one with McCraney and the actor who did absurd impressions each week. I may have it wrong.)
It's true! I noticed that! They did a very good job with that! ; ) Tu, 03/10/2020
The 8:30 scene is the one I always remember. Who could forget that laugh and its situational/contextual/character meaning in terms of their relationship?!
My favorite is in Identity Crisis when he speaks gibberish with his help in the mansion, esp. when he says "gibberish gibberish Beaujolais Colombo" when ordering him wine 🤣🤣😁😁🍷
OMG!! Patrick and Peter; were Columbo Gold! Their acting together was ICONIC!! I totally enjoyed each episode! All were brilliant and that joke, at the end had me laughing too! It was so funny!🤣🤣🤣❤
Can you explain the punchline of the joke? I think the joke is funny, but I don't understand the Jewish connection.
Why have I watched this at least once a week? The excellence of both Peter Falk and Patrick McGoohan.
If I ever get murdered, the only man I trust to give me justice is Columbo!
@M H Who is Monk?
Don't count Monk out!
My favorite actor of all time!❤️ Thank you so much for this! It made my day!!!
I loved him in Escape From Alcatraz as the warden
really?? not too many members of that club. are you familiar with any other actors?
Yay! Thankyou so much for uploading this. Been waiting for this since I watched the "Best of Robert Culp" and "Best of Jack Cassidy" ones :)
I'm watching Mr McGoohan on Columbo right now. Brilliant as always. Him and Mr Falk were wonderful together.
"you know you're rather subtle for a man who appears so overt" lol, and so expertly performed
Patrick was a great versatile actor, was always at his best playing the various killer roles on Columbo! I especially respected Patrick for not taking the role of Columbo when offered to him, cuz he truly felt that Peter was the only actor who could play Columbo!👍
We all love to watch artists who are not only skilled at what they do but enjoy it
Man, I loved the two actors. You can see the intelligence in their acting and the natural affinity they had. I had a major crush on Peter Falk when I was in 5th grade. I named my Siamese kitten "Columbo". And my big brother and I loved to watch"The Prisoner". Somehow intelligent actors stand out. I like them more than the manufactured stars and starlets who got their jobs because they were good at oral sex or something.
genious...can watch it over and over again...
With each Columbo appearance, PMcG got more whimsical with his performance. Compare his Oscar Finch and Eric Prince vs his subdued and restrained performance as Col. Lyle Rumford.
Patrick McGoohan was a FINE actor but, he will ALWAYS be remembered as "Number 6" from the show he created and produced - "The Prisoner."
I remember him as Edward Longshanks...in Braveheart. Excellent actor.
And the Scarecrow.
Apparently you haven't seen Danger Man and Secret Agent. He was at his best on TV in those series!
The Prisoner was awesome. Classic 60s psychedelica and paranoia.
"By Dawn's Early Light" is one of my favourite epsiodes of the show. I think McGoohan's stuck-up but ultimately terribly sad Colonel is right up there with Bogart's Queeg in "The Caine Mutiny". Absolutely brilliant.
A nice collection. However, you could have created a video twice as long and still missed some of my favorites. McGoohan made a fabulous villain and the interplay between Falk and McGoohan was always terrific (apparently McGoohan wrote some of the lines himself).
i,ll be seeing you
Garry Forbes, Patrick wrote all his own dialogue in Identity Crisis. He also wrote the Cigar & White Roses scene for By Dawn's Early Light and the Digestive Quiver scene in Agenda For Murder. There are also numerous references to Patrick's masterpiece, The Prisoner, in Identity Crisis.
My favorite has always been Secret Agent.
Stop moaning ffs be happy with what you get baldy
Can it, Shane.
Saw these episodes years ago. It was great seeing Patrick McGoohan laughing. Rip Pat & Peter..
"Call that a lining?" - absolutely priceless!
Is it a foreskin joke?
@@guepardiez she was commenting about the quality of the inside of the coat and not his naked body. It's a joke about Jewish people being overly concerned about money and material things.
@David Alexander As well as having expertise and elan in tailoring.
That’s the tricky part about burning questions ashes ashes.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 brilliant acting
I loved him as Longshanks in Braveheart
2:45 was always my favourite interaction with these two. Just getting higher and higher pitched as the cattiness escalated. And that "Have you gone?" at the end 🤣
Peter falk's autobiography or biography :one more thing he credits Patrick Mcgoohan with actually saving the entire Columbo series or franchise as a result of his acting and directing and writing for the show.
Patrick McGoohan is one of those people who became more handsome as he got older. Once he had the leonine grey-ish hair and beard, he looked more suave and regal than his younger looks.
"Ashes....ashes. Have you gone"? lol.....love that.
Wow. I never knew Patrick did stuff like this. I'm on a Patrick binge now. Some of these exchanges are hilarious.
“That is a burning question!”
Lovely little verbal jab.
Love to hear him talk.
Two wonderful actors - Falk and McGoohan.
Peter Falk was a great actor, but Patrick Mcgoohan was on another level.
Absolutely fab to see this , love what they do and Patrick , what a great voice and delivery, love Columbo as well.
Great interaction between these two masters
Thank you !
"I suppose you can call that a uniform"
Damn McGoohan was an amazing, versatile actor! I first saw him as Secret Agent Man and last time in Braveheart.
@AMT will check it out!
Wonderful compilation
Have you gone? ...cracks me up everytime.😊😊😎😎
Epic collaborators!!! Great pals!!
Great episode with this two legend
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AWESOME’! The interaction between the two are AWESOME!
“Have you gone?” Is one of my favourite lines 🤣
Holy crow, I had no idea he played all those characters. I barely recognized him without a mustache, I always knew him from the later episodes. He's fantastic!
McGoohan: Who are you? Columbo: Detective Columbo McGoohan: What do you want? Columbo: Just one more thing. I want information, information, information. McGoohan: You won’t get it!
ALL THESE YEARS IVE WATCHED COLUMBO AND I HAD NO IDEA THESE WERE ALL THE SAME PERSON!!!! This man is a GENIUS! And so is the makeup department
Oh Patrick.....memory of you lives on blessed. Apart from Patrick's acts with Peter, I most remarkably remember him as Edward Longshanks. He was truly legendary
I dunno what it is, but few actors now adays come anywhere close to the gravitas of Patrick McGoohan and Peter Falke. They're just mesmerizing on screen together.
This is a great channel but would be far greater if there were more full episodes. Will there be more uploaded soon?
MeTV will be showing the last McGoohan episode this coming Sunday, looking forward to it. Always a great story when he was the guest killer!
Great Columbo chemistry.
Patrick is very good.
One of my favourite villains. A magnificent actor. The CIA episode is one of my top three.
Of all the great performers on Columbia, McGoohan was the best!
He was the warden in Escape from Alcatraz and was brilliant.
Yes he gave a chilling performance
McGoohan: please stop arresting me, Columbo please stop murdering people it getting tiring
"Have you gone?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol omg that part cracked me up!🤣🤣
3:37 I love the way he pronounces "murderer"
Ashes. Ashes! Have you gone? I love that scene.
Well done! Columbo: "ah... One last thing... Who is number one?"
No, Who is Number Two; what is Number One.
Number Three? Third base.
@@murrayporath who....Abbot and Costello underated...
You are, number 6...
Episodes featuring Pat McGoohan were invariably excellent, not least "By Dawn's Early Light (1974)".
Favorite Patrick Line here: "That's the thing with burning questions; when they're burned up all you're left with is ashes. Ashes. Are you gone?"
Favorite Peter line: "Why am I telling you this? Cause it feels good."
I love how Patrick’s always played suspects who can’t help but respect Columbo.
Patrick Mcgoohan was far beyond most other of actors of his time and many since.
'Hell Drivers' which in starred with Sean Connery he played a particularly obnoxious character who bullied the other drivers, certainly not some you wish to meet.
The episode of 'The Prisoner' with Leo Mckern Patrick took it a little to far resulting in Leo nearly having a nervous breakdown because of the intensity. When one is type cast it can be difficult gaining other roles but Patrick never had that trouble but he was annoyed that his work outside 'The Prisoner' was never really appreciated by the public.
My channel is based on his best work, the tv series was and still is far beyond the understanding of most. So many interpretations, references and denials that No6 wasn't John Drake aka 'Danger Man' that it almost became believable.
IT Means What It Is..........I Am Not A Number.............Six Of One..........Be Seeing You..............
👍👍👍👍
PATIRIC WAS MY FAVORITE GUEST AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE ACTORS ,GREAT VOICE AND DELIVERENCE. WHAT O ' clock do you have?
Being your favorite, you could at least take the time to learn how to spell his name correctly.
