Simon: _"Who's with me in my personal quest?"_ Arn: _"You have my bow."_ Roland: _"You have my bow too."_ Morelet: _"I have brandy."_ Edbert: _"Have my ghost, please. I don't want it anymore. Seriously."_
The father reminds me of a Alzheimer's patient, the confusion and misunderstanding of the passage of time. A sad but wonderful story, and the voice acting is top notch. Really enjoying the show!
Allow me to share my story, since I jumped on board and started my own solo adventure, thanks to this show! In my game, my hometown was under attack by a Dwarven Militia and they were capturing anyone tied to the local nobility. My character is the son of the current leader of our town and my parents sent me out in a disguise to flee from the invading party. I successfully escaped but my parents and many others were taken prisoner. I went to a nearby village, recruited another person who shared a similar fate and we set out to find where the prisoners were being taken. As luck (or fate!) would have it, we caught another cart of prisoners being hauled away, this one carrying elves, and followed it. We ended up losing the cart, not being able to keep up with a horse cart since we were on foot, but the cart ended up getting stuck in the mud. We ambushed the cart in an attempt to free the prisoners but everything went wrong, we both fell in combat and we're now imprisoned with my parents and many others and have to find a way out! I couldn't help but laugh. Great times!
WOW. That part where Simon asked his father if he wanted to go hunting with him one more time was so moving! Normally, when a show attempts a moment like that, I don't feel it nearly as much.
Another excellent episode. The final scene with Simon asking to go hunting ‘one last time’ was moving. As always, I cannot wait to see how things turn out. The only thing I can predict is that when she gets back Cherlyn will be, um, miffed.
When I started this series I didn't realize the balance between mechanics and story would make it so fun. And by "fun" I mean--Simon's realization about his father, oof. Dusty in here. What a ride so far. What an amazing story. Well done, sir...so well done
Watching this series, I'm constantly torn between checking the comments to see reactions after something big happens--and wanting to avoid spoilers for the rest of the video! So hard
The story here is great and the fact you're random determining it and just rolling with it from a narrative standpoint, phenomenal work from another DM to you.
I am sad Cherilyn probably won't be staying as a party member. I liked the concept of two members in an RPG being bound together in such a fashion. It added a captivating and unique dynamic to an archetypical fantasy soldier (it also made him a circuitous spellcaster, which was sweet). Also, your accents are 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 well done. I especially like the Irish soldier and the bounty hunter.
I mean maybe it’s hard to not scroll down, but spoilers. To be fair I enjoy watching our friend Trevor but well... it’s nice hearing what others comment, etc.
I may have just found your channel yesterday but I am already addicted to this series and how these books operate! I was feeling down since my ttrpg group couldn't meet up for the past few weeks due to real life and the illness (thankfully they're alright), so this is definitely an uplifting series for my nerdy self. I can't wait to see how Simon, Edbert, Arne and Morelet help Roland find his eternal rest! I just hope that Cherlyn doesn't do anything to destroy their chances of completing this task.
This is amazingly awesome!! Congratulations on developing such an exciting project. The fact you have 40+ years of RPG experience and are trained in entertainment industry, I'm sure, is what makes this so good! I have only just got up to speed after someone posted the link on the Solo D&D players' Facebook page.
Amidst all the interesting moments and revelations in this episode, there was a specific scene that really moved me. The moment in which Simon said "Father... I would like to go hunting with you, one last time" just hit really hard. This guy had been searching for his missing parents for a long time, and when he finally found his mother, he had to fight her corpse brought back to life as a monstrosity, and now, not long after that previous horrendous experience, he finally finds his father... Only to find out that he himself has to put his other parent to rest with his own hands. Simon has done a lot of good since this adventure started and really deserves some peace in his life, I can only hope the dice gods will ultimately be on his side. I'm rooting for you, Savior of Hundatora!
"I SHOOT BETTER THAN YOU DO." My reaction: 🤯🤣🫡 Man... That moment was just perfection. The consistency, the timing of the punchline, Trevor's expressions and voices, the epic music perfectly timed. What the heck... I just learnt about this channel yesterday, have been binge watching this show since then and it's by far the best experience with RPG actual plays that I've ever had in more than a decade as an RPG enthusiast and arguably one of the best pieces of entertainment I've had in a lot of time. Trevor, please keep on making people smile, laugh and feel all kinds of emotions. Your talent is phenomenal.
You should have much more subscribers & views as I find your vids inspiring, so much so that I've started doing solo rpg for the first time. Many thanks!
Another awesome episode.... gonna jump right across to Episode 18 now to suss out what happens in the forest..... Nice unexpected event of Simon shooting Cherilyn in the back.. When he said "Give me the crossbow.....I'm a much better shot!" I got chills :)
What an excellent episode! It’s impressive to see how far the story’s come. Happy New Year, Trevor, and may this 2020 bring many more adventures to your table.
Great stuff, this is the only YT show I wait for new episodes regularly! One question, though. Do you see the main cast more as PCs controlled by you or as part of the observed world (more like NPCs)? I mean, when you decided wether Simon should grab the crossbow you asked Mythic about it. Isn't that something the player (in this case, you) would decide for his character instead of asking the GM (in this case, Mythic).
Thanks! To answer your question, whenever I'm not sure what the character would do - whether they're a "PC" like Simon, or an "NPC" like Cherilyn - my default rule is, ask the chart! That way, I keep true to the intentions of the character in that moment, rather than what I as a *player* might want to happen. It keeps it interesting for me ;)
The interesting thing is, when you think the plot is going to get out of hand, it gets even better and everything fits together! I'm loving it! I honestly feel like this method could be used to write a book, seriously. Even the story of Simon could be a novel. It reminds me of Narnia and Alice in the Wonderland, there's only a handful of characters, but every single one is special, has a well written back story, and everything is well rounded. Great job.
The fact that you interact. The fact that you're doing your best to make an amazing story... I mean, I've already had people tell me you weren't their cup of tea but I will be continually reccomending your work sir. Please continue on and keep doing everything you are right now. This is awesome
Another great episode and thanks for all your hard work! Your incredible production values really make this a joyous viewing experience. Great Story and great story telling - also, you've inspired me to play more solo games! You rock Trevor! As a committed and hopelessly pedantic nerd, I have point out that when you level up, you can either add a new skill OR upgrade 2 existing skills..... (SWD p. 47) P.S. Huge props for using the "old" shaken rules-
Thanks! And that’s true about skill development - depending on the level of the skill’s linked attribute. I’ve actually spent XP to advance 2 lower-linked skills a couple of times, it’s just never made it into the final edit :) (And yes, the old shaken rules are definitely my preference!)
Que gran historia, Trevor. Siempre con un contenido entretenido, dinámico y dramático. Simon empieza a ser realmente asombroso, dejando la peste en el pasado 😜 PD: ¡Guiones épicos!
So I've started watching your show from the second season, here's interesting observation: while ironsworn feels like a more polished system and really helps to maintain the main thread of narrative, without derailing it, with Mythic though you were able to weave a truly amazing story, possibly because it allowed more freedom to your creativity. Yes, the build-up was much more difficult in the first season, but it is the dessert we are after, right?
Edbert was so close to making the "Impossible" roll. It would've been down round hilarious if he did, and just kept on being a fountain of knowledge for supernatural subject matter.
Not Sure that is how I would have interpreted "Addicted Sniper"...I would probably made the NPC a super-cereal edgelord who is obsessed with the "One Shot, One Kill" mantra.
Did you have to make me feel that hard? Simon's dad being dead just hits a little too close to home right now. Idk, if I wanna finish this. Some background: They found cancer on my dad, again for the third time this year, fortunately he's doing better but with this cancer... we know for sure it will come back. Not a matter of if, but when and I just... I'm nervous about that. My mom lost her nephew who was 4 yrs younger then her unexpectedly... and they were so close in age that... it coulda been her. He also passed unexpectedly, like he was literally posting on fb 3 hrs before his death. For these reasons... I may not finish s1. Idk. I'm probably gonna try because I wanna be grounded in knowing who Edbert and Arn are, and I wanna know how it ends for them so I can see how they got to where they are in s2 and s3 but... this is hard
Well, that sucks! Simon and friends kick ass for once, and Simon finally finds his father, but Dear Old Dad is already dead! Dontcha hate it when that happens?
How are you tracking character XP? I'm getting ready to play a GMless game with a friend and am looking at awarding an XP every time the party completes a Thread.
YES!!! "Give me that crossbow Edbert...I shoot better than you do."
I felt the emotion behind that line.
with the music cutting out for the line as well, SO epic!!!
That was absolutely wild!
So good!
"Give me that crossbow, Edbert... I shoot better than you do."
Damn! That line was so badass! And the music! It was perfectly timed!
Simon: _"Who's with me in my personal quest?"_
Arn: _"You have my bow."_
Roland: _"You have my bow too."_
Morelet: _"I have brandy."_
Edbert: _"Have my ghost, please. I don't want it anymore. Seriously."_
Man. The whole ‘i would like to go hunting with you, father. One last time.’ bit got me a little choked up
Simon's dad having ghost dementia was portrayed so well.
Great story telling. By far best role play show. You have inspired me to create more story depth in my games. Thank you
No, thank *you* for watching!
The father reminds me of a Alzheimer's patient, the confusion and misunderstanding of the passage of time. A sad but wonderful story, and the voice acting is top notch. Really enjoying the show!
Me,myself & die addict! My favorite RUclips show in 2019!!!
Agreed, I'm totally hooked to it, definitely in my top 10 shows of the year, incluiding TV shows!
It’s sad how true that is. I started watching three days ago and I’m hooked.

Don’t forget - Edbert’s curse will be lifted if he stands and is judged by the Order of Purifying Flame!
...people he *definitely* wants to avoid running into. They are ready to kill him on sight, if you recall... ;)
That’s going to be such a wonderful tangle!
armana1404 Maybe they could help Simon release his father somehow?
Poor Roland. 😭 Dementia is such a difficult thing to live with and experience. I'm glad Simon and his friends were kind and patient with him.
"I shoot better than you do." Goddam, so great

emotive moments! and edberg sleeping at last!!! great episode. thanks!
Parents had eternal youth what explained the way the necromancer was still young. He allready took Simon’s mothers youth

Excellent! Loved the conflict resolution and the interpretation of mythic.
Also you do a great job with the ambient music! I love this show.
This whole Roland arc is very very touching. Feels all the way!

Very inspiring series that encourages creativity. His enthusiasm shows that solo play can be just as fun. 😎👍
