Obesity is not a disease. You don't "catch" obesity, and no one forces anyone to keep shoveling food into their mouths. However, obesity is closer to an addiction. It's extremely hard for people to overcome drug addictions, and sometimes because their biology is messed up, they have to take drugs to get off the harder drugs. Likewise, those suffering from the obesity addiction may need GLP-1 / GIP / Glucagon drugs in order to overcome their broken biology. The government could do something right for a change and provide a savings card to those who need these drugs to become healthy again.

The original weight gain you can blame the person. But it’s usually in response to trauma for me my grandma died, abusive step mom, droppped out of high school, was in poverty eating fast food. I don’t see how I could have stayed healthy through all that. Even now on mounjaro im healthy again eating good clean food but I’m also not dealing with a bunch of traumas. My life is pretty stable. Once your fat your body works against you to lose weight. Just look at these drugs they fix your harmones. If it was just a person that was a glutton soul the meds wouldn’t work.

@@megalosing5900 Many drug addicts can point to broken families, too, but as you say the original step was taken by the addict. Congratulations on your healthy lifestyle. I'm taking Mounjaro for A1c purposes, but I also lost weight on it. I actually lost too much weight and I had to go back down a dose because I was starting to look bony and thin-muscled. Good luck on your health journey.

Obesity is a chronic disease requiring chronic treatment. Just because you can't "catch" high blood pressure doesn't mean it's not a disease. Just like familial high cholesterol.
