    29:00 it used to be fairly common to give away unsold items to the poor, specially for supermarkets that were getting rid of stock that was about to expire until someone got food poisoning in the US and sued. iirc the courts considered it an act of negligence to donate food they weren't allowed to continue selling to customers and had to pay a large settlement, these days proper food disposal (like in the video) is often a requirement for companies that insure them and giving away food like that can be grounds for an insurance company denying/discontinuing coverage.

    • @doorlocke8009
      @doorlocke8009 7 месяцев назад +9

      As for the luxury bag example I've heard of situations where stock (bag's, clothes, electronics, etc.) would be written down as "disposed" so the store could write it off for taxes and ended up having a worker take the items and got nailed for it. If you write off stock as unsold then it has to be destroyed otherwise it can be considered tax fraud. Book stores do something similar where for books that weren't sold the cover is ripped off and the book thrown away and the cover is sent back as proof of destruction.

      Sadly, there's alot of places that justify doing it for malicious reasons. Panara for example, tells their employees to throw away leftover food so that they "don't feed the trash", referring to homeless people. Also, the whole "a company can be sued for it" is bs. The 1996 Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act ensures that a business cannot be sued for donating surplus food as long as it is donated in good faith.

    At 20:11 That is a Water Moccasin snake, commonly referred to as a Cottonmouth because the inside of their mouth is white. They are native to the Florida Everglades and the areas around it are where they are mainly found. When they curl up and show their mouth that is a defense position meaning that they are ready to bite you, bear in mind that these snakes are extremely venomous and have powerful venom and are not to be messed with unprofessionally

      We have em all the way up here in North Carolina! Used to see the little guys a lot as a kid while playing in creeks and streams. Fortunately, very few people die to snake bites in the US! Out of 7-8k bites a year, only around 5 people die. So, as long as you seek treatment, chances are you'll survive just fine. :D

      they arent very dangerous, just like most animals that exhibit threat posturing they only bite as a last resort, they much rather scare you than bite you. you can see that by how when he poked the snake it went into posturing instead of striking, more aggressive snakes like a diamond back or a copperhead will immediately strike without intention of envenomation first as their warning to back off. their bite is also not considered very medically significant, very painful and you should still go to the hospital for it but of all the medically significant snakes in america theyre right down near the bottom of the list for how concerning a bite is with a roughly 15% mortality rate with medical treatment. (sounds bad but a lot of that % is due to allergic reactions or children/ elderly who have weaker immune responses, anything around 10% isnt considered that dangerous, its a very survivable venom)
      incase youre wondering why i mentioned copperheads alongside diamondback rattlers even though copperheads are far less dangerous its because theyre a more common example of a super aggressive snake even with their relatively low venom toxicity. aggressive doesnt always mean deadly and docile doesnt always mean safe, snakes got all kinds of temperaments

    • @ducdashot1239
      @ducdashot1239 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@eolond1003 even if you dont seek treatment (which you should do) cottenmouths have an incredibly low mortality rate of untreated bites considering it has a hemotoxic venom with the mortality rate of untreated bites being around 20 - 25% if i recall correctly. i mean i wouldnt bet my life on those odds but considering its a pit viper... thats not too bad. also (again if my memory is correct) they often dont fully envenomate when they strike in defence which is another big reason why they arent considered very dangerous. theyre a cool snake, im kinda envious of you guys, your countries biodiversity is pretty unique

Those sprinkler dump HUNDREDS of gallons of water, they only stop when the Fire Department arrives and shuts them off. The amount of damage water does in a building is ridiculous. Especially because it's a restaurant as well, they probably had tens of thousands of dollars of water damage.

So when you insert more energy, via pouring it or striking the bottle, it adds enough energy for the molecules to react with one another and it can make the transfer from liquid to solid. Science is wild as fuck.

    That little rattie there feels really well and happy. :) Rats have a complex social behaviour that includes rich body language the others can read and these "googly eyes" are either part of it or a side effect: Rats fornt teeth constantly grow and get worn down and "auto sharpened" by eating, gnawing on stuff or rubbing them against each other. They also seem to use the noise that rubbing creates in their communication - they'll start audibly scrunching when they're in pain or when they feel really good and happy - usually easy to tell apart by the rest of the behaviour.
    A side effect can be this googly-eyes effect, due to the jaw musculature moving the eyes around a little. It kinda means something similar as a cat's purring - "I'm comfortable, not afraid, having a good time all over right now". Mebbe this one was about to get a treat it especially liked or was simply hyped for the interaction and playing time. :) Looks weird, but is actually a good thing if you have pet rats - it means you're doing things right. :)

    the change from the liquid state to the solid state aka from water to ice takes a tiny bit extra energy, in normal water a single particle of anything really is enough to make that change happen but with bottled water is generally very pure so that doesnt happen so it sits at 0 degrees, it WANTS to change state but it cant yet so if you pour it out, the impact will be enough to make it change to a goo, you can also punch the closed bottle and it changes

    The thing with the doughnuts is indeed about liability, but also that they refuse to encourage homeless people to gather around their store before closing time for free doughnuts, doubly so since people who aren't in need would also come by looking for free food. It's the same reason why any eatery doesn't give their food away to homeless people. The best way to handle it is to give it to food distributors who will make sure the food actually goes to the homeless, but that, of course, means that the eatery has to then accept liability if something goes wrong. The impact of being seen giving away food would go away fast as people forgot, but EVERYONE would remember that time Dunkin' Donuts killed someone because of an allergy.

    the dude with the suspended license 9:34 did in fact not have a suspended license, his confusion was real because they had mixed the paperwork up before his appearance, after it went viral the court issued an apology for causing him so much embarrassment, because that story went international and for about a week that guy was globally famous for being an idiot and it wasn't even his fault

    31:30 That's actually a future concern that we don't really have a way to deal with. You know those games where you move a paddle at the bottom of the screen and a ball bounces around, removing bricks one at a time? Starts out slow, then you get a "2x balls" powerup, then another, then another and suddenly the entire screen is filled with those balls?
    That's kinda what's going to happen once we have a few collisions in orbit. 2 Satellites collide, turn into ~50+ pieces of space junk. Even if 90% of those will leave orbit (falling towards earth or escaping into space), you're still looking at roughly double the number of dangerous projectiles now circling us in orbit. Things would only escalate from that point.
    Luckily we're probably still gonne be safe for at least multiple decades, due to how vast space is. Eventuelly we'll need to find a way to deal with space trash, though, or we could get locked in due to clouds of deadly debris preventing us from leaving the planet.

    25:40. Unfortuanetly. A lot of food gets wasted even tho it's maximum 4 hours old most of the time in my area. And that's to do with the fact that the business can be liable if you take food that wasn't sold and give it away and it makes the person sick. Really shitty thing to have to throw away so much food but given that 4 hours above 65 celsius is the safest point for food to be in a heat bed for before the chance of it going bad from being cooked from frozen.
    Again. I can't be sure but all the safety stuff i had to do for my job has taught me to respect that 4 hour mark because i wouldn't want to get anyone sick.

    4:37 So interesting thing to know Gators can climb really well. Also Alligators will do things like this to lead the dog to the water. So over time the dog will become more brave and get closer and closer when the gator will be close enough in the water it will grab you Dog or your Cat and drag them into the water... it's crazy to watch... I hate to say they're is a video of these horrible dog owners that would let their small dog chase after a gator and just like I said it got further and further from the owners and closer to the water.. next thing you knew the gator had to pup and was dragging it into the water... and come to find out that's common with gators and house pets.
