Luke keeping such good records isn't surprising at all!.... Myself having worked in the medical profession for over 30 years when you chart something if you don't have meticulous records with dates and times then it didn't happen..... So Luke being a doctor was doing just what medical professionals do! ♥️
Thank you so much! This came at a perfect timing. I did not grow up in church and was baptized over 15 years ago. I attended church services here and there, but never have been able to get very far in my Bible reading. I find it difficult that many sermons seemed to jump around a lot. I think I might have only finished 2 books (passive reading) total. Fast forward, I recently had an event that compelled me to try and finish the New Testament in a year - at least. This time, I want to actively read and study His word. So I appreciate the walk in the book of Luke! Thank you so much!!

We do not know if Zechariah was still praying for Elizabeth’s self respect. It may not have been for a child any longer he prayed for but the lack of respect others and herself had against her for being barren. God chose a child as the blessing to change this behavior. Not just a son, a blessed child.
Zachariah maybe did the harpo Marx style gesturing to onlookers to indicate what this great angel had revealed to him, a miracle and almost humour, god's timetable and schema is so much greater and unlike our ideas without limit or expiry, he also bears wit and great humour in his path

Luke is easily my favorite gospel. Because of the story of John the Baptist, Jesus and at the end road to emmaus. Where Jesus explained how his life was preordained in Old Testament. David Limbaugh wrote a book on that subject. Somewhat hard to read

I love your take on the difference in Mary's and Zachariah's responses. I envision his response as going even beyond disbelief to invoke such a response from the angel and his punishment. I see a response more likened to despair or perhaps even a haughtiness, especially if, as you pointed out, it was an old prayer that had since been abandoned. I can imagine a snarkiness in his reply that "now, NOW you want to answer my prayer!? How the heck are you going to do that since we are well beyond that point?"

Sounds like Ted from Bill and Ted. Most excellent….plus Ted is a name for Theodore. Guessing the writers did that on purpose.
Also, with Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, that movie could be a stepping stone to talk to people about Heaven and Hell. And how Heaven is better than what is shown in the movie. And Hell is worse than what is shown in the movie. And how to become saved.

Zechariah and Elizabeth
5 During the time when Herod ruled Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah. He belonged to Abijah’s group.[a] His wife came from the family of Aaron. Her name was Elizabeth. 6 Zechariah and Elizabeth were both good people who pleased God. They did everything the Lord commanded, always following his instructions completely. 7 But they had no children. Elizabeth could not have a baby, and both of them were very old.
8 Zechariah was serving as a priest before God for his group. It was his group’s time to serve. 9 The priests always chose one priest to offer the incense, and Zechariah was the one chosen this time. So he went into the Temple of the Lord to offer the incense. 10 There was a large crowd outside praying at the time the incense was offered.
11 Then, on the right side of the incense table, an angel of the Lord came and stood before Zechariah. 12 When he saw the angel, Zechariah was upset and very afraid. 13 But the angel said to him, “Zechariah, don’t be afraid. Your prayer has been heard by God. Your wife Elizabeth will give birth to a baby boy, and you will name him John. 14 You will be very happy, and many others will share your joy over his birth. 15 He will be a great man for the Lord. He will never drink wine or beer. Even before he is born, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit.
16 “John will help many people of Israel return to the Lord their God. 17 John himself will go ahead of the Lord and make people ready for his coming. He will be powerful like Elijah and will have the same spirit. He will make peace between fathers and their children. He will cause people who are not obeying God to change and start thinking the way they should.

I'm not a heretic, I love the Gospel of Saint Luke, that being said, I have for a few years now been looking at the Bible from different perspectives, ... NOT, as in different religions or "philosophies, or ""new age"" " 🤮🤮🤮
