Transport in the UK is generally unreliable- but Glasgow has the largest suburban rail network outside London, with more stations than Manchester and Birmingham combined. It also has the underground system, a vast bus network and is rapidly developing cycling infrastructure faster than any uk city. If transport is bad in Glasgow then i would hate to think what its like in any uk comparator cities

'Glasgow is an okay city' lol...Edinburgh has an immedite wow factor with the castle and is more or less better preserved than Glasgow- but Glasgow has terraces and architectural set-pieces, especially in the West End, that are truly world class. There are terraces all along Great Western Road that are not even suprassed in London or Paris, never mind Edinburgh. Edinburghs new town classical architecture can be very monotonous after a time- Glasgows architecture is incredibly varied and original and is definitely one of the greatest Victorian cities in the world.

Yeah but set against that half the city is a mess of underutilised sites & dereliction. Maybe itd be more descriptive to say its a city of contrasts rather than merely 'ok' but the pluses and minuses do sum out to leave a middling impression

'Middling' lol...Stoke, Hull, even Birmingham, might be a better description of a 'middling' city. Glasgow is definitely not that. The city centre probably has the highest concentration of architectural masterpieces than any city outside London. That before you mention the West end, arguably the best residential area in the UK, and one of the best in terms of urban design, in Europe. The southside is not too shabby either, and even the Eastend has some good areas. I'm not too sure where you are comparing Glasgow to in calling it 'middling'.
In terms of 'dodgy' areas even the likes of Royston or Easterhouse, Castlemilk or Pollok, have no empty houses and none of them look even remotely dodgy, like they did 20 or 30 years ago.
