- Nuper Rosarum Flores, is a motet composed by Guillaume Dufay for the 25 March 1436 consecration of the Florence cathedral, on the occasion of the completion of the dome built under the instructions of Filippo Brunelleschi.
Nuper rosarum flores
Ex dono pontificis
Hieme licet horrida
Tibi, virgo coelica,
Pie et sancte deditum
Grandis templum machinae
Condecorarunt perpetim.
Hodie vicarius
Jesu Christe et Petri
Successor Eugenius
Hoc idem amplissimum
Sacris templum manibus
Sanctisque liquoribus
Consecrare dignatus est.
Igitur, alma parens
Nati tui et filia
Virgo decus virginum,
Tuus te Florentiae
Devotus erat populus,
Ut qui mente et corpore
Mundo quicquam exorarit.
Oratione tua
Cruciatus et meritis
Tui secundum carnem
Nati Domini sui
Grata beneficia
Veniamque reatum
Accipere meraeatur.
Amen.

WOW!!! I am a harper and love playing early music... this style of motet music is new to me. Glorious!!!
Isorhythmic!

Nice! I love what you’ve done with my edition to suppress the additional staves of music (it saves paper, but choristers apparently hate it because the repeat structure is confusing).
You've found that too?? I had to write out parts for my (VERY amateur) choir because the repeats and da capos totally bewildered them. Glad I'm not unique, at least
Si pudiera escuchar una canción el resto de mi vida sería está, es HERMOSA 🎉🎵🕊️🎻🎶🎹
It's a magic!!
Le meilleur moyen selon moi de faire comprendre aux enfants l'intérêt d'apprendre à lire la musique
Splendido mottetto!
indeed
YES!
(thank you)
does anyone know what the horizontal brackets between certain notes means?
They’re a remnant from chant notation. Notes that were joined together with a ligature because they were sung on the same syllable are bracketed in this notation.
Who's singing?
Bruneleschi estuvo bien acompañado

It's beautiful, but on compas 22 there's a B sharp twice and the woman who's singing it sings a B natural..
Was the sharp written above the staff? I don't know which part of the piece you are talking about specifically
it's a B flat not sharp :) and yes it's not in the score it's added by the editor: it's questionable. in this kind of music accidents were intende basically for two things:
1) to avoid forbidden intervals (especially the tritone) or sequences impling those intervals
2) in cadenzas
in both cases they were not noted but left to performers' knowldege.
in this passage we are far from a cadential point (and Bb couldn't be involved in any cadenza) but a tritone can be suggeted between F and B... but it's not so strong (there is a pause between F and A, and it immediatly goes to C) and a Bb would have create some problem with subsequent E.
so the singer preferred to sing a natural B... I'm not sure about her choice but I wouldn't consider it wrong ... it's a doubful passage. it happens :)
:) harmonia subintellecta
This is a editorially suggested musica ficta; how it should be sung can be argued both ways.
