      @troll.0835 Nah, Indonesian is mainly Malaysian as it existed in 1945.
      They only borrow a few Dutch words.
      The significant thing in society, is that many elite Indonesians were sent to The Netherlands before WW2 to learn engineering and other stuff and of course to speak proper Dutch. These Indonesians are nearly all gone now because they were of the same generation of Sukarno (and even evill little Suharto). While still alive, these elite Indonesians with Dutch education would speak Dutch in private, or if they didn't want to be over heard by the younger people.
      While these older Dutch speaking Indonesians are gone, their children who are now in their late seventies, will still remember what Dutch sounded like in general. And possibly some of these children learned Dutch themselves from their Dutch speaking parents.

      ColaBoyEditsexactly. In Nigeria too when we don’t want Ghana in our country then I mean our forefathers, they gave them words to say and it’s not possible for them no matter how long they stay here they can’t say it in our tone. They can’t say R like how we say it. We pronounce it as rrrr and their own is riiii and lots more sha😂

    As a Thai person, I have to say that Dutch pronunciation is really difficult for us. Especially with “khhhh” sounds!

    • @nonexistingvoid
      @nonexistingvoid Month ago +2

      I'm Dutch, but I also struggle with the "kh" sounds!
      We have a much softer g/ch sound in the south of the Netherlands. (at least, in Noord Brabant and Limburg)
      But they always invite people from "above the rivers" for these kinds of things.

      My husband is German, which is similar to Dutch, and he still struggles pronouncing some sounds. (And I also struggle with some German sounds in return). Pronounciation is hard when you didn't learn that language as a kid 🙂

    • @zephyrus339
      @zephyrus339 Month ago +2

      Fun fact; the Dutch g (or "khhhh") is actually not native to the language. It's a foreign immigrant from Jewish and was introduced into the language around the 17th/18th century in Amsterdam and from there spread around the country. Exception are the provinces south of the Rhine, many local dialects in the east and Belgium.

      I'm Thai that speak Thai, Dutch and English fleuntly. So I might be bias here, but I think as a Thai person it is very easy to pronounce stuff in other languages if we try harder by listening to pronouncation and try to copy it. We have almost every sound as 1 letter for example like: G=ข, Kh-ค, Dutch J= ย, English J- จ, Sh= ช, Ng= ง, R=ร, L=ล and more.

      In many aspects, the Indonesian language is more influenced by Western languages, especially Dutch. That’s why Indonesian is quite different from its neighboring languages. Even the intonation of formal Indonesian sounds more similar to European languages (particularly Dutch) than to other Asian languages.
      Indonesia’s national songs are also influenced by the characteristic melodies of Western music. If Indonesia had adopted Dutch as its national language, the country would be very similar to Australia. Geographically distant from the West, yet culturally very Western in character.

    Thailand is pronouncing almost everything wrong.
    Indonesia is close tho. Its still hard but i can understand it. Thailand just completely changes the pronunciation so Vietnam can’t understand.

    • @เมจเมจิ-01
      @เมจเมจิ-01 4 months ago +7

      Understandable, since Indonesia was colonized by the Netherlands for almost 400 years, while Thailand has never been colonized by any country. Thai people aren’t very familiar with foreign languages, not even English, and I think most of us just feel more comfortable using Thai. So it can be quite difficult for us to pronounce things the same way as native Dutch speakers.

      @Allmyloveisforyou7777 Not exactly. That Indonesian player is just smart and has a very good sound discerning skill. Indonesians did not speak Dutch, except if they were educated noble children.

      @jessicag630 Imitating sounds doesn’t determine intelligence. I believe that if Japanese people joined the activity, they wouldn’t be able to pronounce it either. However, they’re still among the top countries in the world with the highest IQ. Right?

      I think it doesn't help that Thai is a tonal language, which is completely different from western languages.
