My heart goes out to you both. I’d love to see you and Shea become big advocates for RV fire safety. That includes making RVs SO much safer - fire safe materials, flooring, upholstery, coatings, etc. 💜💜💜
Still feel the raw emotions, and I just have to say, I'm happy to see you guys with a little smile here and there. Breaks my heart seeing the burnt photos and personal effects.... But like Andrew mentioned, I'm just glad you guys are still with us! That is the silver lining! Love ya guys!
Andrew I can relate to your concerns about leaving your four legged fam members alone in your bus. Every time we leave our three in our coach, I’m always worrying about their safety. And what happens if there’s a fire? My wife says I’m too paranoid and I need to chill. Ain’t gonna happen! You and Shea will be back on top in no time. Keep up the great work guys!
Your disaster has helped remind us that this can happen to anyone. I just ordered fire resistant document/money bags for our coach and home. Thank you Andrew!
Andrew! We know the feeling! We had a van back in 93 that caught fire pulling our 29 ft camper! We were head out with our children on business when we noticed smoke! We pulled to the berm of the road! The van was engulfed in no time! Thank God we and our children made it out safe! The camper was not burned but we decided never to tow again and went to our First Class A! I still worry! God sure had his angels with you all! God Bless and pray you all get settled and get lives back in order!
I'm so glad to see you guys posting again. Andrew, your eyes look tired. It really looks like you've been working nonstop. I'm glad your sponsors are helping you out, and you're getting new ones. Being honest and a hard worker always pays off at the end. Both of you be safe, and God Speed.
Thank you to all the loving and compassionate souls who have helped Shea and Andrew through this difficult time. Andrew, I think Newell should hire you to travel around promoting fire awareness in their fleet and help them design fire safe features. Just an idea. Sending you both love and healing.
Just so impressed with how you are handling this disaster. Your comments of concern for others who have gone through this well demonstrates the quality and contribution you bring to the RVing community. Glad to see your family of four safe and sound.
Glad to see you’re both doing well. When I bought my motorhome, one of the first things I did was take a tour of the RV Graveyard in Phoenix. I wanted to see what the main reason was for RVs demise. Good luck in your journey for your new motorhome.
@@terrysandiego thank you Terry, I’ve seen it, but it would be a great video for Andrew to do from the prospective of a couple who unfortunately went through a motorhome fire loss.
Thank you for the positive update! Our main concern was a fire in our toad, Jeep. We have extensive fire prevention for it. Now im getting a 4th fire extinguisher to put in our rv. We have a Waggle to monitor the temp in our RV for our dogs.🙏🐕🐕
Just watched your RV fire video..........blimey, that was a lucky escape. So glad that you all got out, and kudos for all in the RV community and elsewhere for all the help and support that you have received - some great suggestions, especially about having an emergency bag to grab if necessary, something we should all think about. Good to see you guys! I feel just especially terrible about Shay's losses. Please inform us of the cause when you are able. Take your time on more videos, you have a lot to deal with.
I find the statement that it happens quite often very disturbing. Most of the ones I have seen are under the dash like this one was. Is there a common thread to narrow down the cause. It will be interesting to determine this cause.
So sorry to hear about everything you’re going through, on my XLII The previous owner installed a fire suppression system in the engine bay and the generator bay, when I had my coach serviced last week, sitting next to mine was a completely burned out H3 from a generator fire, you’re so right about making sure you have fire detectors/fire extinguishers available just so you can get out safely. I honestly don’t think that if I had a fire in my coach and I was sleeping in the back bed or one of the bunks that I would make it out, it’s something that I think about every day w/ these used entertainer coaches. Having a mid door coach can be a lifesaver, I wish you both nothing but success in life, onward and upward
Some ideas for more peace of mind because you are right to be concerned and you only have about 30 seconds to be decisive before the fumes take you out and the ceiling turns into a broiler. 1. We kept a large fire extinguisher AND a hatchet in the back of the coach. The hatchet was to break out the middle divide between the two windows because only one side was meant for an exit and we knew that it was too small and we wanted to be able to maneuver out of it so as to try to land feet first... 2. We also placed a large extinguisher behind and to the left of the driver's seat. The small original extinguisher remained by the door. 3. We installed extra air-quality detectors front and back. But, then, our coach burned in our driveway while we were not in it--Not a bad thing.
i am not an RV fan, but when I came across your video moments after you posted the fire video, it knocked the wind out of me. Glad to hear that you have arrived in Florida safe and sound. Would like to know the cause. Hope you and Shea and the two dogs get back on the road and enjoy our beautiful scenery that God has painted for us. I'll keep following your videos.
Good to see progress and positivity with you both. There are lessons here and I appreciate you, and others sharing and benefitting from even bad experiences like this. Among all great RV luxury features, a fire suppression system seems a smart necessity. Also, I am reminded the value of having personal photos and mementos digitized so they can be more easily shared, stored and preserved. Years ago we bought a digital media firesafe vault that features high temperature protection plus has an inner seal that fuses with heat to keep the contents waterproofed. We keep backup drives and valuable documents in it. Above all, whether in an RV or a house everyone should definitely keep a bug-out ready to grab and go. Life is most precious, so if an emergency arrives take care of life first, GO without delay, risk or thought of getting your "stuff." Practice this. Finally, on this eve of daylight savings time change, a reminder to replace batteries in smoke and CO detectors. Safe travels everyone!
So glad you guys are safe! The wife and I full timed in a motor home for 18 years, we visited “Colaw RV junk yard” it was amazing to see what a RV looked like after a fire. It really hit home on one of our trips back here from Florida, they had one of our motor homes. It had burned only three feet of some of the outside wall’s remained even the floor was gone you could see the ground.
Most of all You both and your dogs are safe, we had an accident in 2018 in mountains of Tennessee it went over on it’s side no injuries but took 5 months before insurance decided to total it. They were good at taking care of everything else. Thanks for all you do for us.
I missed you guys so much! I’m so thankful that you found therapeutic activities and the healing is well underway. I understand needing to go radio silent for while, but as the healing progresses, I want to see more videos from you two! Be well! Hugs from CA.
#202 Good morning, Shea and Andrew. The experience you had with the RV Fire was a big education for all of us, viewers. Fire Extinguishers are a must!! I have used mine to save other motorist, trapped in their car. I am carrying more now! I, too! Am curious about the cause of the Fire. The Professional Fire Investigators will answer the question in due time. God Bless both of You!
This is one of the main reasons I changed my mind a couple of years ago about getting an rv. In my research, most of these are electrical fires from wiring that has rubbed from road and engine vibration wearing a hole through one or more wires. If they short out it easily causes a fire. That's why some people spend the extra having all of the wiring double wrapped and placed in pvc channels throughout the coach. It's expensive but worth it.
That is really good to know, how easily a fire can start from damaged wiring, also mice n rats n other small animals can chew on wiring n damage it I would get utility trailer n make your own home in it n make it real safe by doing extra things n knowing how everything is done right n real good cause you did it Its way cheaper Also make it so you can move things around easy, like water jugs to balance weight out good when you need to drive it around I also heard propane hooked up to fridges n other things can start a fire when something gets damaged People turn off propane when you are driving n put food in ice chest if you need to
Good to see you all. One of the first things we did when buying our used coach 2006 Monaco was update the smoke, CO2 defector, and fire extinguishers. We also had the Amish repair done on the fridge. I will be working on a go bag next. Prayers for you, to find another coach and safe adventures. By the way you all make a cute couple.
You two look great! Considering what you’re dealing with the attitudes both of you project are amazing. Just remember that adversity creates opportunity. We look forward to what’s next!
We use go-pro cameras to capture fire footage. Many firefighters have them mounted on their helmets. It is part of their design to be somewhat heat-protected. It is so good to hear you both are powering through nicely!
a FIREPROOF SAFE IS A very good item to even have in your home. Always important papers, will's, auto titles even cash. I extend that to a RV. Where it is self propelled or towed. Older absorbtion refererators are a common cause of fires. Personally I would prefer the newer dc-compressor refer's. That way no propane needs to be turned on during travel. In years past I cool it down. Turn it off Travel to my next campsight, then turn it back on when setup.
@@josephrogers5337 here in New Zealand the vehicles must be inspected every year for maintenance. If I had an RV I would make sure to do a yearly maintenance check up. It’s a good habit to get into.
I remember the video that let us see your new coach and that huge smile you had talking about it. I know that feeling well as I was a full timer for 8 years.. the best years of my life and what a sweet joy it was sharing it with the love of my life. Just keep your heads up, everything happens for a reason. Believe me…..from the outside looking in there is NOTHING BUT GOOD TIMES ahead for you two. Have a real good cry and then put that smile back on. Life is waiting for you two and we all want to watch.
Andrew, your story inspired me to purchase a brand new fire extinguisher after I saw your video. I discovered that fire extinguishers should be good for 10 to 12 years and my Class B is 11 years old this July. We have a 2012 Roadtrek RS Adventurous , Class B motorhome on the Sprinter 3500 chassis. It has a king size bed in the back, but, I can understand your being 6 foot 2 inches could make the smaller Class B motorhome seem small for you. Hopefully, you'll find out what caused the incident and recover money from the insurance company. It's definitely a huge loss, but, you guys and your animals survived it. Good advice on checking your smoke detectors. I didn't realize how common these fires are. Several years ago I had my propane refrigerator replaced with a 12 volt compressor model. They found the old refrigerator had some burnt electric wires very close to the open propane flame for the old propane unit. That's all been capped off now and I'm glad the propane refrigerator is gone. Take care and good luck in the future.
Andrew , watched quite a few of your videos the fire series. Glad to meet you wife, and you bought are in Good Spirits. See you down the road. Your community did offer very good advice. I remember hearing years ago about returning damaged currency. have a great day.
Bless both of you and your babies. Thank you for sharing this difficult time with all of us. Big fan of the snap pads...just bought some for our new to us Class A!
Sorry to hear about your RV. I first learned about your channel after the fire. I'm glad you made it out safely. I know you're was a lot newer (and Diesel), but I advise friends buying used RVs that the first thing they need to do is buy a couple of fire extinguishers. Don't trust the old ones in the RV and make sure they're accessible from the driver's seat and the bedroom. One of the biggest causes of old RV fires is ruptured gas lines and hot exhaust manifolds.
We are so heartened by your attitudes and the support you are getting from people you have never met. We have had the pleasure of meeting you multiple times and so much respect for you and we know you are a great person. Hopefully you and Shay will get everything back to a normalcy that will help get back on track. Mark and Patty
Glad to hear from you two. Was curious how you both were doing. You both look and sound good. Keep the positive vibe going. Look forward to upcoming videos. Take care.
Hey guys. I am so sorry to hear about your lose. We are sending prayers your way. I am a fire investigator and have investigated several motor coach fires over my career. So glad to hear you and your fur babies are safe. wishing you safe travel. T Thomas CFEI
Andrew , Great idea to continue to dive deeper into incident. Causes and issues with it and then at same time perseverance. The smaller RV looks great and look forward to what new coach will be.
Thank you so much for letting us experience this with you. It's a real eye opener In this, let's say more higher end side of RVing. The lesson I learned, is fire & electricity don't care how much you spent on your coach! It will take everything &, even more. So maybe you could consider adding a fire or RV safety focused episode, 1 or 2 times a year to your channel. Like Newell if they read this. I'd really like to know, what emergency exit you have for ccupants trapped in the rear of your coach. I genuinely don't even know if you have one & I've seen a few newells, here & wide. I'm pretty sure it's legally required, but... I think prevost windows pop out, but I don't really know. It really is easy to overlook safely when considering a high end coach. Because Safety is posted everywhere in manufactured RVs. Not so much in custom.
Please document the fire from a~Z to notify us of your fire and how to avoid the same. I had a fire in my class a also caused by 12V basement plumbing compartment light caused from a brass water hose end coming unwound and breaking the light and freezing or welding it on the electric fixtures. Burn everything up in the compartment before I noticed the plastic burn smell. I used my extinguisher to put out the fire. Thanks Geico for taking care of all the damages.
Happy to see the video tonight and glad to hear you're pulling your lives back together and plan on getting back in a motorhome, hopefully a Class A! 😊
So good to know so many and companies stepping in to help. Hang in there I always have bug out bags ready to go live in fire prone California. Already fought several fires wicked and unpredictable. Take care of each other.
Andrew and Shea, just learned of your misfortune a few weeks ago. We are Canadian vacationing in Fort Myers in our Motorhome and have not been following you for a while. So sorry for your loss but so pleased that you and Shea and the dogs are safe. My wife Louise immediately moved all of important documents within reach of the door for a quick exit should something like that happened to us. We look forward to following you and watching your U-Tube sessions as you move forward, wishing you the very best . CHEERS!!!!!
Like Shea mentioned having a go-bag ready is a smart idea. I have had a go-bag for years in my home and I keep modifying it from time to time. Just peace of mind. I also made a list of the most important things to grab if I had to leave quickly. That's how I roll. Even though I have insurance I would still have a few things at the minimum. Fire-rated safes can at least buy some time depending on the safe. Maybe in an RV I probably would have a fire-rated safe for cash and documents, etc. Good to hear that you'll have another RV going forward. I like the way Electric Bikes stepped up for you and the Newell Coach family.....Nice to have friends like that. Stay safe.
First of all you both are safe and healthy. Your dogs are safe and your family is still together. You have reminded everyone the importance of fire safety, an escape plan and go bags, whether in an RV or a home or hotel. I am not an RV'er so my frame of reference is pretty low, but the important takeaway from this is safety and awareness were the big things that God gave you to be aware of. Stay safe and look forward to seeing your progress. May God bless you both!
Ever since I pulled you up on RUclips, I have been praying for you guy’s, and your new home journey, I am thankful that you guy’s are having a lot of support. The only thing I have to give is prayers and I will continue to do so. Keep your spirits up because God is always with you. Stay safe. God Bless love’s 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾💕💕💕💕💕💕
Glad to hear from you. Prayers and good thoughts for you. May you be able to travel safely soon. Know that your community is thinking of you and cares.
Glad you both are doing well. Fires are horrible, things that don’t get burned get smoke damage. The smoke smell is something you can never get out of things.
Wonderful to hear from you both and to see the fur babies running about. What an experience. Grateful you lived to tell the tale and look forward to your new videos with some fire prep tips too. Hugs.
So happy to know some photos and great memory items were saved for Shay . Nice to see your smiles through it all. Take Care anxious to know when you get back on the road. Now everything is all about time, and that you both and fur babies have that, as they say, time has a way of healing many things. Keep on keeping on!!! Sincerely, Shay's Ways
The video of your RV fire was heartbreaking. I'm very glad to get your update and hear you are doing pretty well. I'm sure recovering from such a devastating fire is something that will take much longer than a couple weeks. Please know you remain in our thoughts and prayers. Thank God no one was hurt.
I am so grateful that you both are OK along with the dogs. What would you say about doing a video on how to get out of a motorhome on fire? You mentioned having a go-bag to grab. I think the worst case is being asleep in the back in an RV without an emergency egress door. It seems like one should have a fire extinguisher mounted near the bed, mid ship, near the driver, and in a storage bay on both sides of the RV. I can't see why anyone would ever buy a fire extinguisher smaller than a 20lb unit. The NFPA requires a B:C rated fire extinguisher for RVs.
I love your attitude. I’m thankful everyone made it it unharmed. I would Definitely make sure you have a camera systems for the inside, as well as being able to monitor and control the temps in the coach while you’re away.
I've always told my kids and husband that if there's a fire and you can grab only one thing to take out safely, grab the photo albums! Forget the track pic and high school diploma - they can be replaced. So glad you did get some out ok.
Thanks for the two week update Shay whew ! I'm so glad Andrew stopped you from going back in the coach before it went up in flames.I live in Florida also on the west coast an hour or so northwest of Tampa. I'd love to meet you both & the dogs. Andrew did you sell your Leisure Travel RV? I hope you get your burned up cash back sooner then later. I suggest for the next coach get a fireproof safe box to keep your valuables in. I have one in my bedroom closet. Looking forward to seeing what coach ya's get next.Take care, stay safe & stay well.
God Bless you both and your dogs. So glad you were able to escape with what's really important - each other. This is a wake-up call for all RV'ers. I know as a result of what you experienced, I think differently each time we get into our RV - have a go-bag, make sure smoke and CO detectors are in working order, keep multiple fire extinguishers in working order, have an escape plan.
Thanks for the update. I'm really glad you guys and the dogs are ok. The stuff is...well...just stuff. Most of it is replaceable. Take care of yourselves. I'll see you on the next video.
Such a scary thing to go tru. I have seen hundreds of these rv fire videos on RUclips, it makes you think what is going on with these rv's & campers catching fire!? So glad to hear your not giving up rving
Glad you are ok, was wondering how you both were. My house got hit by a tornado in 2017 and a major flood (Mississippi River) in 2019. I know what an emotional strain this can have. Glad to see you back!
You might also go to office max and get a cashier bag that’s lockable and fire and water proof , have your go bags stored underneath in the basement storage in the fire boxes
I’m really happy that both of you and all of animals were able to escape safely from this fire. Everything else is replaceable. We love your videos and thank you for your update.

I missed you guys so much! I’m so thankful that you found therapeutic activities and the healing is well underway. I understand needing to go radio silent for while, but as the healing progresses, I want to see more videos from you two! Be well! Hugs from CA.
So good to see an update ... I have heard horror stories of dealing with insurance and am waiting to see how you are treated . Continued prayers
That is really good to know, how easily a fire can start from damaged wiring, also mice n rats n other small animals can chew on wiring n damage it
I would get utility trailer n make your own home in it n make it real safe by doing extra things n knowing how everything is done right n real good cause you did it
Its way cheaper
Also make it so you can move things around easy, like water jugs to balance weight out good when you need to drive it around
I also heard propane hooked up to fridges n other things can start a fire when something gets damaged
People turn off propane when you are driving n put food in ice chest if you need to
Good to see you all.
We had one burn down too. We bought another. Thank God we got our dogs out and we were not hurt.
Our prayers are with you!
Wishing you both well. 😎
So glad you got out just in time. Good hearing from you and happy you're in pretty good spirits after this horrible event.
You two look great! Considering what you’re dealing with the attitudes both of you project are amazing. Just remember that adversity creates opportunity. We look forward to what’s next!
You guys definitely got me to up our “what if” fire plan. Thank you and again so glad everyone is safe.
Glad you're both making the best of this difficult situation and moving forward. So glad the dogs made it out, as well!
We use go-pro cameras to capture fire footage. Many firefighters have them mounted on their helmets. It is part of their design to be somewhat heat-protected. It is so good to hear you both are powering through nicely!
I’m so glad everyone is ok. I’m not sure if there are fire proof safety boxes for your valuables, but could be perfect for your new RV 😊
a FIREPROOF SAFE IS A very good item to even have in your home.
Was praying for you both just this morning. Don’t know why but you popped into my head. Trust in The Lord, you’ve many people praying for you.
Mark and Patty
.
Glad you’re doing okay. Thanks for the update.
Andrew I'm glad you both are doing well. I went through the flood of 84 in Tulsa so I have some idea of your clean up.
So glad that y'all are ok and that your going back to RVing!!
Thanks for taking the time to post a video in the midst of all the chaos. Hope to see you back in a Newell soon.
Glad to see you folks are on the mend.
Thank God... your both Allright!!! So sorry for your loss! Cant wait to see your next coach!!!🙏🙏🙏
Glad you're able to save your pictures and money and receive help from many companies. Bless you both!
Glad you got out safely and good luck on your search for new one. We have 2 Lectric eBikes and love ours too
Happy to see the video tonight and glad to hear you're pulling your lives back together and plan on getting back in a motorhome, hopefully a Class A! 😊
So good to know so many and companies stepping in to help. Hang in there I always have bug out bags ready to go live in fire prone California. Already fought several fires wicked and unpredictable. Take care of each other.
Just glad you both are in good shape. Looking forward to seeing you back on the road. Happy trails!
CHEERS!!!!!
I’m so sorry. I remember seeing the video when it happened. Thank you for sharing your experience so others can learn.
So glad you are doing ok. Good luck on the new search for the next rig.
Just so glad y’all and pups are OK
Thanks for the two week update
Shay whew !
I know this had to be the hardest thing to go through but very thankful you two & the fur babies are safe.
Glad y’all are getting life back together and moving forward, good luck in your endeavors.
Such a lovely couple! I’m sure great things will come you’re way. I’ve been in an rv family since 1962 Rolllite was the first one!!
Thanks for the update! Glad you two are well and recovering!
Such a scary thing to go tru. I have seen hundreds of these rv fire videos on RUclips, it makes you think what is going on with these rv's & campers catching fire!? So glad to hear your not giving up rving
Great to see you on this video. Thanks for sharing the update.
Great to hear from you guys. You’ve been in our thoughts and prayers. All the best in the coming days and weeks.
All the very best Andrew. You and your darling of a wife will recover stronger. I am thankful that you guys wasn't hurt.
Glad you are ok, was wondering how you both were. My house got hit by a tornado in 2017 and a major flood (Mississippi River) in 2019. I know what an emotional strain this can have. Glad to see you back!
Thanks for the update! Glad you are safe. After a tragedy like this, you realize how strong you really are!
I am happy things are going well for you two!
Your attitude is great. God bless you both and your 4 legged family as well.
Good to see another post. Glad to hear you're getting back on your feet. Sending continued thoughts and prayers your way Andrew and Shea.
