What a conincidence, i just finished it 2 weeks ago! So many things that seemed hella random in the movie made so much more sense in the books. I just think sophie and howl liking each other came out of nowhere

Shoving in everything in the last two chapters is a very Diana Wynne Jones thing to do. The Derkholm books, Fire and Hemlock and HMC are my favourite of her works (possibly in that order).
Fun fact, she actually attended Oxford while Tolkien and Lewis were teaching there, and was one of only two students who stuck it out in Tolkien's lectures (he was purposefully doing a bad job of it so they'd all leave) forcing him to stick it out instead of going off to write the Lord of the Rings, got yelled at my Beatrix Potter to get off her lawn, and was a close friend and mentor to Neil Gaimen.

The sequel of this book is actually pretty good as well. The castle in the sky .The main characters are different people from a different kingdom but many of the characters from the first book feature in this book as well ,especially in the second half ,many of them in disguise .I was a bit iffy about the start but ended up loving both in the end .

The third book is the weakest for me, but all three are very enjoyable!

It took me years to see if I could get into the book, and at first for some reason it was hard for me to read. I can't put my finger on why , though my guess is that it was Diana's writing style. As I started to read more books regularly, I picked up the book again off my bookshelf and I am reading it, and now it doesn't feel like I am doing mental gymnastics. I'm following along with it much easier this time And I'm liking it so much that I am thinking of picking up her other books!
Goes to show that it's okay to DNF something but come back to it later. :) I loved the movie too.
