Hallo Mandy, I agree totally with your few words, it's like "right between the eyes" And I'm sure for all the fantastic songs and Alan as well. I was 15 years old when I heard for the first time and started to be a Punk Rocker one of the first ones in Germany. All the music was new exciting for me a dream came true, one I didn't had!! 58 years old now from Motorcity Stuttgart. 20 years I drove 80.000 km a year to get to concerts intoxicated and drunken as hell, don't remember much of anything but we had a life money can't buy. but Alan R.I.P. was something special and I had a deja vu at my first time seeing Cramps Ivy and Lux R.I.P. I'm a good mate of the The Bollock Brothers for almost 40 years now, because they play 1 2 or sometimes a theird time in my City and saw them all over Western Europe. A good female friend promoted all Europe Tours from Dead Moon and 15 years back we promoted The Cynics and The Fuzztones for one gig only in a small City 35km away for 200 Music lovers. And many other things I could write a book... But now they are using terms like post punk/goth and retro new wave and it all sounds like bullshit what happend to this people, because it don't sound like punk and new wave is something totally different. But they have millions of clicks and Msssive Attack using the guitar riff in their Bauhaus cover - Bauhaus is out of the race, because Gary "fucking young little girls and is in prison now"Glitter got the copyright it's from Rock n Roll part 2, are they completle brain free or can't handle drugs - glad that we had a good time and music was played by heart, I guess we have the same age. And with Johnny Thunders R.I.P. The Ramones R.I.P. The Cosmic Psychos and good old Charlie Harper, a mate as well, from U.K. Subs saw them 60 times. They saved my life and now month 15 without one show - Corona sucks!! I'm grateful for words and have fun ☠️💣☠️
I'm 53 my name is Cherie'. A great young man at work told me about and played this song for me today! I never heard it before. Thank you Aesop! You are a completely special person I look forward to working with you more! Looking up lyrics now!
It is so good and so special. I saw Suicide, Martin Rev and Alan Vega, Live in Lisbon, in Ruínas do Carmo, in 1988, and it was one of the best concerts of my life!
Love to Alan Vega, RIP. One of the great singers of punk songs on electrobeats. Love all of his Suicide music, great albums. Still sounds very modern. 🔥
Used to love playing this live with my dear friend Turkey Bones ( sadly no longer with us) this song will always invoke happy memories of my friend . We also used to cover Ghost Rider . RIP Scott (Turkey Bones) Rushberry
Few songs get played over and over in my world. Every now and then you hear your soul talking back to you. At peace. The song and you are at one. You fantasise scenarios where the music is the anthem to the moment you are sharing. Grand vistas open up and hope is ignited in your mind. Such musical enlightenments are rare and beautiful. Cherish the special moment of discovering beauty.
Just heard this gem in a documentary about Orson Welles. Never heard it before, and I'm surprised. A very avantgarde sound treatment for its time, indeed.
beautiful connection, though both be NYC. Alan & Marty and Arthur had a similar chilled out alternative vision of the city and its influences. My strange journey through music had me meeting and becoming friends with both working with each. Its personal and both Arthur and Alan are very missed by me. Bumping into suicide on the road was a big joy in life. I no longer share life with my NYC connection, thats ok but a big loss was no longer going to NYC and seeing my musician buddies.
Can see why Ric Ocasek was influenced by them. Keyboard/synths flourishes n something about the song structure that clicks with the Cars music n his solo work.
Just heard this in the movie 20th century women. Woman? I think it was women. Anyway, I liked the few suicide songs I'd heard. Looove this. Why aren't they better known outside of music critics? This is so good. Recommendations of other good suicide songs would be appreciated :)
glortw Dream Baby Dream is probably their best song, but Ghost Rider, Che and Johnny are also great songs from their first album. I would recommend listening to Frankie Teardrop, because I personally think it's a great song, but it might be one of the scariest songs ever, so I must advise you to proceed with caution. But not to be to specific just check out the first two records and avoid Frankie Teardrop if you are not ready for the extremes yet.
I was once on a bus from London to Amsterdam and this gorgeous blonde girl got on in black leather trousers.....the Black Leather Lady ! A moment in time !
This song was huge Lesser known group Revolutionary Corps of Teenage Jesus Couple of good songs with the vocalist: "Daddy Died" and "Who Cares Who Dies "
Luca
Alan Vega in an interview: "we were the supporting act for The Clash. I thought they were cool... but they weren´t". Obvious, the Clash were N´Sync compared to Suicide...
@@ferpont ... absolutely!!.. the crowd wanted punk rock 3 chord bash!!!.. it's only later on when i realized that Suicide were miles ahead of the game.
REMEMBER!!! REMEMBER IT , BROTHERS AND SISTERS, AND REMEMBER, THAT MY MOTHER HATES ME FROM THE DAY I WAS BORN!!!BLESSED BE, BUT MY MUM IS CURSED BE, AND MY GRANNY -REST IN PEACE, PEACE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Cheree" was written by Martin Rev and Alan Vega (of "Suicide") and they released the single in 1978; the cover version by "? and the Mysterians" was released in 1999.
1977 wasn't ready for them.
Absolutely,couldn't agree more.
Damn skippy.
Don't think 2022 are either.. Pure musical brilliance.. Simple.. Heartbreaking.. I'm nearly 70..this is pure audio orgasm
2023 isn’t either. ❤️🔥

I love those chimes, straight out of a 1950s Doo-Woop record.
RIP Alan Vega
One of the most underrated acts ever but those of us who picked up on them know their legacy.
Born in 1979 , love this in 2022, enough said !!

Such a beautiful tune.
So ahead of its time.
Brilliant. Forever.

I too noticed this beautiful track while watching 20th Century Women.
Suicide at their most sublime from their self titled album from 1977.
Sounds like a tune that the warriors would be listening to whilst gettin chased round new york

I love you baby
Great just heard downtown 81, wow

Quelle beauté !
Brillant for ever💯💯💯💯💯💯
I remember seeing this song in the French charts, in early '78. Was I dreaming?
is this true - did hear they'd had success in France but no idea how much - and you?
I read somewhere that this was a serge gainsbourg je t aime moi non plus pastiche so it makes sense!
I greet you all with great affection. Luca
Great tune
The beauty is boundless, yet I find the desperation in Alan’s disturbing
surprised i’ve not yet seen a Spacemen 3 comment! can clearly hear the influence suicide had on them
True! and the very Peter Kember (Sonic Boom) acknowledges that!!
This wasone of the few recors i bought around then. Used to nod out to it
We love this song! Discovered Suicide thru Sigue Sigue Sputnik! We've done a quadruple-album on Bandcamp. No Serial Killer.
I discovered Sigue Sigue Sputnik through Ferris Bueller
Amazing. Almost 50 fng years ago and still Suicide is so far ahead of the game....
Crimson and Clover - over and over... ;)
I swear this mix is different to the album one…in a cool way😊
Heaven.
Seems like the origins of Spacemen 3 and eventually Spiritualized.
Massive influence on Spaceman 3✨✨
Can anyone recommend any other music with chimes like these?
They really are beautiful-a sound to feed the soul.

Dream Baby Dream, Ghost Rider, Rocket USA, Harlem, Sweetheart
Everything from 1988's A Way of Life. Though they took it to a more pop sound, it's still a fantastic record.
Rocket USA is supreme

i could lissen to a longforrm of this, say 2 hours? it's just so atmospheric.....

Strange, but very very unique song..
Obviously inspired Matt Johnson of The The - This theme runs throughout the track 'Perfect'
Yes, fine point.
I love that song and never noticed that before.
uncertain smile too. Casio keyboards had a lot to do with it too.
2020 still great 🖤
Classic poineering synth tune.

Similar songs to "Cheree"?
PLUSH - "ENTJ"
LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby. Literally homage to Suicide
Primal Scream ..,.,... "keep your dreams"
Dead sound by the ravonettes, most suggestions you get are gonna be modern because suicide had a lofi style that didn’t get popular until the 10s

Suicide was great, but Question Mark and The Mysterians put out a very similar version of song a decade earlier.
"Cheree" was written by Martin Rev and Alan Vega (of "Suicide") and they released the single in 1978; the cover version by "? and the Mysterians" was released in 1999.
