I cannot speak for everyone in the AEW sphere, but been on the subreddit since day one, there is absolutely no huge backlash from him leaving or even much ill will at all. It was surprising, and there were people that previously didn't love Cody, but almost immediately upon his arrival back into WWE, the overwhelming take was it was the right call for him and wish him well.
I'm sure you can find pockets of negativity about him/it, for SURE, however, up until now, I think most AEW fans thought of him as in a different universe, yes, but not persona non grata. The dude was huge in establishing AEW, he will always has a baseline respect from that fan base, even if they don't like him as performer/person.

Anybody with any sense knows that Cody was the only guy actually trying act like “an executive” and represent the company in a serious and positive way.
Kenny was always a wrestler who never cared to be an Executive. He just needed a good booker, which AEW does not have.
The Bucks, however, always liked the power and having the influence. Unfortunately for fans, the ideas and friends hired by the Bucks have all been absolutely DREADFUL 🤦🏻‍♂️
The Bucks are ruining the show with their silly and awful unfunny ‘skits’. And they are ruining the company by contributing to major stars like Cody and Punk leaving.

My logic was simple...he was still one of the shows biggest names even if he wasn't as hot as he once was and MORE IMPORTANTLY he and his wife held major high up positions in the company. The man had secured a job where he doesn't have to take bumps while still having a strong in ring presence and creative freedoms. I didn't get why you'd give all this up to go back to WWE who could easily back you for 3 months and then drop you down to the midcard if you didn't perform.
History shows I was wrong. Cody coming out with this additional info that we didn't know at the time really helps justify him betting on himself.

It just sounds like he was pissed the aura of his importance was broken. Also, he blamed the fans, he was the one who was acting like a heel, he was the one with the terrible Codyverse, he did that.

Wwe is a whole production studio with real estate, production facilities, training center, movie studios, and has been around for 40 plus years that’s publicly traded. Cody wanted to stick it HHH, he was the biggest aew vs wwe guy in the company, he literally smashed a throne at their first PPV. The bucks got over an entire tag division in aew. It’s funny how much wwe fans hate is directed at anyone but Cody and punk. They were bitter at wwe and let it be known when on the mic, you just blamed tony for it. Like if wwe is publicly traded, wouldn’t it be funny to learn a billionaire TK also owned a lot of shares in that company too, so this “competition” has made him even more money personally?

He'd tease the fans with the pedigree, leading us to believe that when he finally hit the pedigree, that would be the completion of the heel turn...he disses Triple H only to become Triple H and go back on his word about the title....that's what we thought was coming because that's where he was leading it so what he's saying now is really disingenuous.

When Cody does interviews, he should tell the interviewer ahead of time, let's not discuss AEW. He needs to quit discussing AEW, and focus on WWE. He doesn't work at AEW anymore. He needs to let it go. It just brings up more negativity. He should be thankful for the position he is in, and not feel the need to downgrade AEW and want to take credit for the origin of it. He wants his cake and eat it to. It comes off as entitled and spoiled.
