nish I did my gcse's overseas and got my results this Jan. I honestly felt like crying after a few exams but they turned out good! They also grade shift so you could get half the questions right and come out with a B or higher! You'll be okay trust me!
Im also stressing because I will be moving to the UK in the summer for A levels, and IM FREAKING TERRIFIED. The change in environment, the fast paced difficult sixth form lessons, having to make friends all over again...it’s just slowly killing me
So doing an EPQ might not lower your offer but doing one was the single most useful thing I did to prepare myself for uni (way more useful than my three a levels combined) so I would 100% recommend doing one if you are able to fit it in Context: I studied geography, English lit and history at a level (A*AA), got an A* in my EPQ and now midway through a history degree at Edinburgh university
rollcallishere I'm sorry if this is a bother, but I've aspired to go Edinburgh since forever! how difficult was it to get in? what else did you have in your UCAS? do you think doing the EPQ helped you get into uni?
I've just finished my first year of college and I don't need to do revision for my course (I study art) yet I still watch your videos because they're so enlightening and calming so thank you!
I'll be going into sixth form soon. I will be doing maths, chemistry, physics and bio. I really admire you a lot Eve and I really hope to see how well I can do when I challenge myself at sixth forms. I am really terrified rn but I am pumped too. Love you Eve! ❤❤❤💗
this was really helpful - going into year 13 (lower sixth) and I think the point you made about making notes when going along will be vital for Bio and Geog! for French and German I think it's just a case of trying to grasp as much vocab as possible and put things into practice where possible :)
Just so you know the jump from AS to A2 is huge, you'll notice it in exam season! I started revising for AS in December for mocks and it worked great but for A2 it is worthwhile making notes from September because the amount of work you're expected to do is insane!
I only have like 4 days of school left and I’m honestly feeling really bittersweet about it :/ I’m going to miss the lessons I would always complain about and just being in the classroom with everyone:(
So glad you made this , I'm starting sixth form in September and nobody has been able to give me good advice 😂 love your videos eve and good luck with your AS results - you'll smash it ! Xx
If anyone wants to do an EPQ in 2nd year of college (year 13) and wants to do a science (chemistry, physics, maths) at uni, please do it! They're amazing to speak about in your personal statement and further at interviews, they show the uni that you're interested in a specific area of research (plus they help with learning how to research, cite and condense information). The skills are transferable to writing lab reports, essays and your dissertation (if you do a masters or PhD). I did chemistry, biology, maths and an EPQ about phthalates, and ended up with an A*AAB. Most unis wont lower grades or count it, but they do count it in terms of UCAS points. It is manageable even when I had a maths and a chemistry research project too.
Hey Eve, please if you can, make a video showing your organisation for your subjects (folders etc) or how you make notes. When people say 'revise' I really struggle because I don't know what type of revision is effective or how to learn things I find boring, reading over notes doesn't seem effective enough. If you could make a video on your revision techniques that'd be amazing! Love your videos, you inspire me so much. Thank you.
I don't have a choice but to move to a new school in September only because my high school doesn't have a sixth form 😂but the sixth form I'm going to is the one closest to me and it allows me to do the subjects I want which is good! Most of my friends are going to different sixth forms from me so I hope I make new friends quickly!
Lucy Cole awh thanks that's really encouraging! I had an induction day a few weeks ago and I met some people who are also going to the sixth form and some of the people in my taster lessons seemed nice! I think it's daunting because most of them are staying there from high school so they've already made close friends with each other so it'll take time but hopefully it will turn out good! 😊
This was so useful because I'm starting sixth form in September, doing English lit, French, modern history and fine art so your advice for English lit and languages was so helpful! Although I feel like it will be a big jump for me because my high school doesn't have a sixth form so I'm going to a college further away and it's so much bigger and different than high school! X
I would love a video on choosing subjects for Sixth Form? Or maybe advice on what to do if your results aren't what you expected (you can tell how much confidence I have in my results haha)
I doesn’t feel like I have a summer because our teachers set us loads of summer work on induction day for each of our a levels. E.g for physics she made us purchase the cpg a level head start book, learn and answer all questions. That’s not even all we have to do... 😌
So helpful Eve! A few questions I have are, how can you try to connect more with people in different year groups and friendship groups to you? And how did you make notes in class - especially for politics and languages? - Would you write down all the concepts even if you were going to make notes on them, or only select certain bits to write down - how would ypu choose what to write down? Great video x
My school gave me 'summer work' for each of my subjects to do over the holidays to prepare for sixth form... 😑 But, I guess it's quite a manageable amount and if I put some effort into it, it'll hopefully give me some confidence for the start of next year. 💙
this has helped so much, thank you! i'm stressing a little bc my school doesn't have sixth form so i'm moving to a different school. i just hope i make friends quickly 😂
Amy B relax! Make the most of the break, then when it gets to September just keep on top of work! Most importantly whenever year 11 mocks are take them seriously!! It will give you such a boost for the real thing😊
I found that A Levels were a jump because there was just more content to learn and for my school, there was a lot of homework. I also found it hard because I wasn't doing as well in terms of grades at the start of the year
I'm the complete opposite of what you said first, my jump from alevel to gcse was huge because I take maths and science if you don't do humanities subjects definitely revise from September or you'll be in over your head by December
Do you know of any English Lit youtubers other than Mr Bruff who do videos on the AQA A spec? I'm starting English lit next year and am terrified as I didn't even have an English teacher for GCSE so realistically my grades aren't going to be great😬
I used to and still do get anxious and get bad moments during lessons and in exams etc during gcse and in school in general. I used to see a councillor but she was patronising and intimidating so it didn't work and I'm still unable to control my nerves. BE HONEST- am I going to cope with A levels because I'm so nervous and also how do you cope with it?
Hey eve! I'm going into A2 eng lit this year and I'm still so stressed! Any advice on how to write notes I'm still trying so many techniques and they're not working!😅
I'll be starting a levels soon. I am taking maths, bio, phy and chem. I love all those subjects, I'm really hoping to get A's for my AS. I am super nervous but I will put in my best effort. 💓💓📝
Anna Not to scare you, but Year 11 was honestly heaven compared to Sixth Form. Of course, everyone is different but from my experience, the start of sixth form is the worst, the jump in terms of content is massive and often, your friendship group breaks up which all makes for a huge stress. The first term is definitely the hardest but does get better, by the end of college, I was very sad to leave but just prepare yourself that it is very different from school!!
start making notes and revision cards from the beginning fo year or else you're fucked when exam times comes around. theres just so much content and its much more stressful and time consuming. i regret not making notes from the beginning of the year, when exam season came i was stressed but im good at revising the week or night before so i got good results. gcse are a cake , i miss it.
It's honestly not that bad as long as you work consistently hard, you feel like you're getting nowhere most of the year then it kind of all clicks in the end and its fine. Year 11 was easier but sixth form is manageable, I guess it depends on your subjects though.
Would you recommend using 1 folder for school with dividers for each subject, having 4 other separate folders at home and emptying the day folder everyday for a smaller load to carry?
who’s here because gcses were canceled so now you have loads of time to prepare for a levels? #gcses2020
and apparently, there's going to be a 33% downgrade! life goals!1!1!!!1!!
@@chloelai3698 Like our year hasn't had enough horrible crap piled onto us... Gotta love Ofqual 😍😍😍

who else is STRESSING about GCSE results... I keep watching Eve's videos to keep my morale up. Only a month and two days to go... :/
nish Stay strong fellow year 11s!!
nish I did my gcse's overseas and got my results this Jan. I honestly felt like crying after a few exams but they turned out good! They also grade shift so you could get half the questions right and come out with a B or higher! You'll be okay trust me!
Keep in mind that I did the bare minimun studying
Results day is on my birthday too😖
I live in Scotland so only 16 days until results.😬😬 I did the equivilant of A levels this years. So terrified.....
I’m frigging scared for A levels cos of coronavirus
Me too. We have nothing else to do, except like prep for a levels
EXACTLY!
Im also stressing because I will be moving to the UK in the summer for A levels, and IM FREAKING TERRIFIED. The change in environment, the fast paced difficult sixth form lessons, having to make friends all over again...it’s just slowly killing me
Detroit Become Beyonce from Detroit? Whereabouts are you moving to?
Joe I’m not from Detroit lol. I’m moving to Leeds.
I’m binging these sorts of videos as I start sixth form tomorrow! Excited and nervous ahh

Primrose kitten got me through my science GCSEs 🙌🏼
Cheer Ads i binged watched her vids about a month before my maths gcse, and i went from scraping a 5 to getting a solid high 7 this summer 2019!!!
GCSE to AS is a huge jump, but AS to A level is an even bigger one, so just hold onto your hats cos you're in for a bumpy ride
Abigail Maynard can't agree more. The gap between as maths and a2 maths is just to big to even comprehend
When can we stop jumping though?😂
That line sounds so british and i imagined some ladies in the victorian era wearing those big floppy hats in a convertible lol
Wait, what's AS? Is it important? Why is there a jump between AS and A-level?
.
I've just finished my first year of college and I don't need to do revision for my course (I study art) yet I still watch your videos because they're so enlightening and calming so thank you!

petermcclure12 lower sixth is Y12
I'm from Northern Ireland! Here, our secondary schools run from Yr 8-14, so our GCSEs are Yr 11-12 and A Levels Yr 13-14 :)
petermcclure12 oh ok I'm thinking in English terms so we have it one year lower :)
yeah I know! i think it's weird the way we have different schooling systems haha, makes it hard to explain to someone not from NI and vice versa!
@petermcclure is there any advice you have for biology and geography I am taking them next year
hey eve please could you do a video on what you should buy before you start college like folders organisation etc
Aami Ashraf YES!!!!

Poppy Rendall the sixth form I am hopefully going to has every student do an EPQ so yh...

I got really stressed when she said that you should revise your mocks like it's your real exams cause I definetly didn't do that x(

Please do a video on sixth form supplies to bring
This video was so helpful! What revision guides do you use for English lit?xx
Do you know of any English Lit youtubers other than Mr Bruff who do videos on the AQA A spec? I'm starting English lit next year and am terrified as I didn't even have an English teacher for GCSE so realistically my grades aren't going to be great😬
Allys L crash course literature is good, but not as in depth, they have videos on a large variety of novels and plays. Im also doing AQA A next year.
Allys L Mr Salles and Mrs Whelan are both great too, though I used them more for English language and mainly just mr bruff for lit
Allys L mr salles is a good one!
