Love your fabric. I don't think you made any mistake with the notch neck. It's not your fault. They just do that. I've seen the same thing with ready to wear dresses. You might be able to get rid of it with extra interfacing to stiffen it, or even add some boning. When ever I make a dress with a notch neck, I draft it out and make it a plain V neck.
