Recent subscriber here. Been fly fishing over 50 years. Started with southeast US warm water. Been fortunate to fish some of the finest trout water in the west. I just want to say that I really like your style. Like the jacket, like the bowtie, like the delivery, like the set, and like the tying. Thanks for downing such a great job!
Good choice Matt. Definitely go with a yellow color, and 14,16 is perfect. I have some of these in my box, but I mostly nymph fish. About 95 percent of the time. It has always worked for me. Enjoyed watching. 👍
Good morning Matt. Tuesday morning ☕️time. Enjoyed todays video and I like the look of that d rib. Hope your fishing trip goes well for you. We had our club opener on Sunday and it went well. The water was cold as the ice had just left the area we fished the day before. It gets uncomfortable in a belly boat after a couple hours at that temp. I observed a few fish caught by others but I just washed some flies. Felt good just to get out. Take care and have a great week.
Yes indeed John! I've never been brave enough to take my belly boat out except in the summer... where if I fell in I wouldn't be in danger of hypothermia! Two more days and I'll be in a tent in the mountains. I'm so looking forward to this week off! The weather isn't looking too promising but oh well, I'll make the best of it. Have a great weekend my friend!
Nice fly Matt I really like the translucent body. Wish I was going with you to the Smokies. The last time I fished there was when I think I was 10 or 12 years old on Chilhowee Resrevoir, but it wasn't a good fishing lake. Keep the good stuff coming and good luck on your trip. Bring us back some fishing video.
I appreciate it Dave! I don't think I made a trip down last summer, but spent one day on the Little Pigeon the summer before. The previous two trips were both over Christmas vacation, so fishing in the cold and snow. This week should be much more comfortable. :-)
Hi Matt. Thanks for another great fly n the 1st I've seen with a d-rib body. It really stands out, fishy lokking too. Great luck on ur trip..video of u fishin the waters in the smokies?? God Bless n Fish on!
This looks fantastic on the klinkhammer hook. I was surprised by the size, I've always fished 16s and 18s in the Shenandoah National Park. They always look tiny to me and would have thought they'd be the same size in the Smokies but I trust the locals on this one.
Same here! Ours are pretty small here in Maryland, but it's interesting that on the Gunpowder they're noticeably smaller than on the Savage, and these waters are maybe about two hours from each other.
Nice bug Matt! OK, from what I've read, the later the "hatch", the later in the day the egg laying is. I think you have the size dialed in. I forgot the nymphs "hatch" out of the water, but I would fish some #16 yellow stone nymphs if no kamakazi Sallys are about... m-m-m, suddenly I'm thirsty for those kamakazi shots back in the day Also, seems like it's a prolific bug buffet where you're going, but I'm sure you'll be prepared being the dry fly guy and consummate fisher that you are. As for me, I just figured out I should've fished a yellow Neversink Caddis when those trout kept hitting my yellow palsa type indicators Good luck, stay safe, and have fun buddy! 🪰
Haha! Great comment Joe. I am hearing that the hatches right now are late in the afternoon to early evening. Which is fine by me as I can streamer or nymph fish in the mornings. Or just generic attractor dries. But man, I am ready to get out and do some real fishing. My last two outings here in Maryland have been poopy. And the last one, it was a beautiful day so I couldn't even blame it on the weather! Of course, I've been watching the forecast for eastern TN and western NC and it's not looking great for next week. Six days in a tent, in the rain won't be optimal, but I'll make do. At least it's not supposed to be cold. I've got my videos for next week in the queue but I won't likely be here in the comments until I get back. So take care and have a great week!
Very well done. I think our hatches are larger here in Idaho, but the smaller sizes are still productive. I sent you an email on the caribou hair. Warmest regards
Interesting mix of materials. I’ve never thought of vinyl rib as something that could be used on a dry fly or one that could be used in the surface film. It does give the fly a good look. I’ve only used it on nymphs or Chironomids & used dubbing or hackle stems for Yellow Sally bodies. Guess I need to give this a try. Good luck & be safe on the trip. Herringbone tweed? 👍
Thanks Bob. And yes, it is a unique choice. I've seen it in a few semi-dry fly emerger patterns but I thought it would be interesting to try. And yes, herringbone for the jacket, but not a real tweed. Nice enough for government work though. :-)
Thanks Jim! I just finished Friday's fly, and have both for next week already tied, just haven't finished the editing yet. Friday might be a late night if I want to head out before sunrise Saturday. :-)
Morning Matt. Yes, the stone flies are bigger out west. The smallest size is 14. The average size is 12 to 10. Would using a poly material help the wing? Seems like it would have less bulk for the hackle.
@@SavageFlies awesome! Reminds me of Mike Mercer’s naming convention. If you ever market the fly to Umpqua or MFC, they’ll probably require some hipster name to fill up fly shop bins. Henceforth, it shall be known as “Matt’s Yellow Sally - Klinkhammer style”!! Yep, rolls right off the tongue, haha! In the end, the fish don’t care. They’d probably name every effective fly ‘ouch that hurts’ or ‘nope not food’.
Nice fly, I used to tie a lot of vinyl ribbed flies in the nineties. The panfish really go for them. Thanks for the video.

Good looking fly. Hope you have a great time fishing the Smokies. Thanks Matt.
Cool looking fly, Matt
I think this is the first time I've seen a d rib body, looks good
Definitely need to tie up a few
Thank you for the video
That's a good lookin' fly!
Good looking fly Matt, enjoy your trip.
Love this dry fly. Great attractor as well as most anytime. Thx Matt.
Appreciate it Clyde! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Interesting pattern Matt! Good luck on your fishing trip!!
Good Morning there sir! Another great one! Looks like a television show on cable, lol
Hahaha! You know it Tony!

Awesome pattern!
Looks to me like it should catch trout. Thanks Matt for sharing. Fish on my friend.
Thanks for video Matt and nice Job as usual! That’s a dry fly I do not have in my arsenal. I’m going to tie some up right now thank you.
Nice looking pattern, and it should be a good fish catcher. Thanks for sharing, and have a fantastic day.
I hope so Layton! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Great looking Sally. Have a Great week Sir Matt. Thanks
Appreciate it Marshall! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
@@SavageFlies you too and have a great fishing trip
Morning Matt! This is a good looking fly and should be a fun tie. Tight lines on your trip. Hope to see some video from it.
Thanks Troy! I hope so too. :-)
Nice one Matt! Thank you for sharing!
You bet Barbara! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Looks like a good one. Have a great trip.
Thanks Butch!
Nice fly Matt. Good luck on your trip!
Appreciate it Daryl! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
I have a friend who is having great success with #16 Yellow Sallys in the Smoky Mountains. Perfect fly for your trip I think!
Outstanding to hear! Thanks for the tip. :-)
I like that tubing body with the egg sac. The Yellow Stoneflies that landed on me a couple weeks ago were 14s.
Great to know Mel! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Gidday Matt. Great looking fly. Hope the fishing goes well.
Thanks Ken! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)

Looks like another killer pattern ! Hope you get some footage of the trip , would be awesome to see you catching fish on that and other patterns
I'll certainly try, and will have my cameras with me. If only the weather and the fish cooperate. :-)
Great pattern
I also use the body tubing for some of my yellow Sally patterns
It's a very under used material.
I agree Dean! It does make some great nymph bodies but not used much at all for emergers or dries.
Those will work well in the Smokies.
I hope so! And BTW, I just got Vol 3 in the Dick Tracy series. 1935-1936. Such fun reading. :-)

Good fishing pattern! Yellow Sally's are everywhere in western sc and nc streams through july
Outstanding to hear Sean! I can't wait to get out with them. :-)
I'll be fishing clinch mountain in VA memorial weekend! Should be a great time
If you used horse mane hair for the wing you could call this Mustang Sally... 🤣That'll slow your Mustang down... LOL
Hahaha! I love it Randy. :-)
Good luck !! This fly should work ¡
work!!! Criminey.

You know Nich, that's a good idea. It would definitely keep the head from getting too big.
I do the egg sack in green. Seems to work better for me then red. Maybe its a Western thing. Great pattern for sure.
Great Job; thanks, Matt. Wondering what shade of green you use. I've never had much luck with red egg sacks, either. Thanks. Tom
@@tomhines5999 Hareline insect green or caddis green.
Thanks Dan! I think I'll try both. 👍
@@SavageFlies Any of the brighter greens seem to work for me.
Thanks Matt!! What do you call it?
Thanks! And I have no idea. I guess just a Yellow Sally Klinkhammer. :-)
